Not surprising, seeing as the older models do have issues handling some newer updates. My launch Xbox 360 model had a similar story, and it was no mere red ring case.

Well anytime someone tells me that their system bricks in the middle of a match I have to hold to the possibility that extreme levels of stress may have simply resulted in the hardware flying out the window.

In this case, the odds of it actually breaking down became slightly higher. Good for me, not so good for the playstation.
