Actually DoA Dimensions increased the role of Tengu inside the plot, connecting him more to the main storyline of the war between the shinobi and DOATEC. Sure, he remain always the boss character more far from a serious involvement, but it was anyway a big step further.

By the way in the case of Bankotsubo's return in DoA5U and sequels, I think that the story is a matter not taken in consideration from the fans... I think that many people agree that they would love to get him back even in the status of dead boss (so completely missing a part in the plot).

Just on DOA Dimensions, is it worth grabbing a 3DS for you reckon? How does it deliver in terms of game modes, costume variety, characters etc? & is Tengu actually playable or just a boss? I wouldn't mind grabbing this game whenever i decide to splash out for a 3DS eventually just to add to my admittedly shite DoA collection which consists only of DoA5U, DoA3, DoAU & DoA4 haha. Cheers,

So, Team Ninja posted something about "DOA5UA Fighting Carnival 2014 SUMMER". =)

Maybe it´s another DLC Episode of costumes like the "Halloween" Pack back then. ;)

It would feel too soon if TN decided to create the contest entries into costumes (I doubt that all the winners they contacted received their prizes yet) but I do know one Ayane entry that is at least Tengu-themed.

I just noticed that the Tengu mask from TN's tweet is a half-mask. Judging by the lips, it's safe to assume it is a female or at the very least, a guy that might be as pale and baby-faced as Eliot since every other guy aside from him and Jacky (at some extent) has a very tan complexion.

EDIT: The bangs on the left side of the image looks synonymous to Ranmaru Mori from Samurai Warriors/Warriors Orochi.

It's really just a typical Tengu mask... Most of them are red with yellow eyes. The hair reminds me more of Hitomi's, but darker. I feel like #TeamAyane people aren't noticing she has long bangs on both sides ;p

The only thing that concerns me is you can't make out any wings. Not sure if TN blurred them out or they're just tiny

I can't believe TN, they are kidding with Tengu fans, just a Tengu costume for Ayane? LOL. They are obsessed with costumes.

First of all I have the game but not a console for playing it, anyway I can say you the info that I know about it ;)

DoA Dimensions is definitely the link between DoA4 (and partiall the old games) and DoA5, so you will notice as many things seems just to foreshadow the passage from these 2 games. Something was lost, other was added.

The characters available are the strenght point of DoA Dimensions, that allow you to play with ALL the canon fighters appeared in the series since DoA1! :D

So you have the ordinary cast of DoA4 + Raidou, Tengu (TN was able to nerf him even more from DoA4 :( ), Genra (with a moveset partially inspired to Spartan) and Alpha-152. To them are added for the first time even Kasumi Alpha (the clone from DoA2 - finally with the deserved important role in the plot never got in the original game - that use the moveset of Kasumi from DoA2) and the secret character Shiden (father of Kasumi and Hayate, for moveset a clone of Hayate more similar to his DoA3 version).

Of course Spartan and Rio Tachibana are absent being guest characters.

The game modes available are:
  • Chronicle (story based on the DoA5 mode)
  • Arcade & Survival (with different courses and difficulties, just as appear in DoA5: by the way the characters and the stages remain the same everytime, differently from DoA5U)
  • Free Play (Versus)
  • Training (with the introduction of a slighty deep display of technical info related to the moves)
  • Showcase (the game give you the possibility to acquire figures different still models of the characters in different poses, and then to place them in your favourite stages, taking photo of them)
  • 3D Photo Album (where you can see the photos).
A tutorial for the game is included inside the playing of the chronicle mode, similar to the original DOA5.

About the online, the game should give you the possiblity to play only Single ranked matches, without lobbies (and so without a way to play definitely with the same previous opponent). But I could be partially wrong on this.

Time attack and Team Battle are missing, just as Arcade mode with ending movies from the previous games.

About Chronicle Mode you have to know that basically he talk just about the DOATEC storyline: so the main characters involved will be Hayate, Kasumi, Ayane, Ryu and Helena (the only ones that you will play in the Chonicle mode), Hitomi, Bayman, Christie, Lisa, Kasumi Alpha, Shiden and of course all the bosses. The rest of the cast make just brief appearences. By the way, even if lacking of the funny side stories and altering the previous canon, at least in my opinion TN make a great work, telling the story in a way clear and much more logical compared to DoA1-DoA4.

The stages are taken from the previous games of the series (of course this doesn't mean that they are all included), with slighty changes (as the addition of tier levels or mixture of different ones) + some nice new arenas. All of them are in the old DoA style, so colorful and irregular arena (on the opposite of DoA5), and of course full of multi tier levels. For seeing the stages, I suggest you to look to the official DoA Dimensions site: http://teamninja-studio.com/doadimensions/eu/index.html

(The game introduce the possibility to select just an exact tier level of the stage, option implemented even in DoA5).

The outfits are not so much, but for the majority of the roster (excluded bosses and some unlucky ones) all various and different. The majority are anyway old outfits from the series (again, in parallel with DoA Dimensions wanting be a big remake of it). Sadly a part of them was available as Free DLC released only in particular dates, so currently is impossible to get them if you wasn't able to do it in the past (fans still asking for these outfits to TN...).

For major info about go on DoA Wikia (external to FSD
http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Dead_or_Alive_Wiki) or look this video

The outfits called "Download "xx" are the DLC ones (that as I said, currenty are unavialable for who didn't download them in the past).

About the gameplay, the game is basically a porting of DoA4 under that aspect (even if of course were implemented some differences in the moveset of the characters and their properties or in the return of the KO for falling in multi tier stage); I'm not an expert of it so I can't say you technical details, but in general people consider the game pretty similar to the fourth title.

The real big differences IMO are:
  • The holds use a 3 points system (as in DoA3) and not the one with 4 points.
  • In Tag you can't control both of your characters, but just your main one with the second controlled by a (silly of course) AI. Very likely this for the hardware limits of the 3DS. I also think that Tag is allowed only in arcade, versus and multiplayer (local).
EDIT: Added and fixed some details.
So, Team Ninja posted something about "DOA5UA Fighting Carnival 2014 SUMMER". =)

Maybe it´s another DLC Episode of costumes like the "Halloween" Pack back then. ;)

This should be related to a playing event from what I knew.

If you can find it cheap (I got it a year ago for about $14) I'd say it's worth picking up. Controls are very hard to get used to, I can't even do Kasumi's PP7K reliably.

Using your desaturated image this time for a clearer view of the hair.

I can tell it isn't a pre-existing character. While the closest to the mask-wearer's hair color is Ayane, however, Ayane has shorter hair from behind and the bangs aren't as synonymous to her since it looks neatly straightened from the ends (Ayane has more rigid front fringes) but with the mask on, I think the mask-wearer's forehead and face looks too big imo, making it hard to tell if the hair happens to be real or is a part of a headdress,

DOAD is an amazing tribute to the serie in my opinion. It means so much to me, because at the time it was released, it meant that DOA wasn't dead and was actually going to come back after all these years. I "learned" so much about some male characters I didn't really use or didn't enjoy playing with before in DOA2 and DOA4 (Eliot, Brad, Bayman, Leon, Bass, Gen Fu). I play with all the characters (except Genra who is a bit boring and limited), and I really start falling in love with Kokoro, Lisa and Christie with that episode. So when DOA5 was released, it was a good transition, I felt attached to the whole roster and I now enjoy playing with all of them.

I have more than 500 hours of battle and I'm never bored. Well, it's due to the fact that you can play DOA anywhere : in the car, in bed, in the toilets lol, and that's very appreciated. Of course now it feels a bit outdated with DOA5's updated movelists and newcomers Mila/Rig/Momiji/Rachel, but it's one of my favourite game ever and it's compiling all the casual things - music, stage, cutscenes - I loved about DOA pre-DOA5!

Unfortunately, my data was corrupted and I lost all the 36 downloadable costumes for this game.
That's why it would be nice to have a new round of free costumes, or even more DLCs for this game. :)

I would call this an Aynae costume, but I fear TN may have just made a "female Tengu" Ayane clone.

I wasn't too upset by Phase 4 because I'm quite used to Kasumi getting cloned constantly, but if this becomes a regular thing I don't think I can support these type of characters

Well, if we have two "Evil Kasumi" why not an "Evil Ayane". TN said more characters were coming to DoA5UA, so I don't think this picture is just a DLC cosutme. It will be a new character (being a new one, or an ayane clone).

I think that almost everyone thinks that the picture is related to a new character, but the doubt is if the picture show effectively it or an Ayane's outfit made for promoting it.

Technically, Kasumi has 3 clones but we can assume that all her clones are the same person undergoing a transformation (Kasumi Alpha -> Alpha 152 -> Phase 4), though I don't find how it made any sense for Kasumi Alpha (who physically looks human) to turn herself into a moldy gelatin girl and go back to looking human again.
