Last I recall Momiji wasn't apologizing every two seconds in Ninja Gaiden as I hacked people up.
She's not overly aggressive or mean-spirited or cocky or anything, but DOA made her such a fucking softy it's sickening. Every goddamn thing she does in DOA is either a bow, an apology, surprise that she didn't totally fail or some combination of the three.
They mucked up Momiji quite pitifully in DOA, imo.
Hmmmm, I'm going to disagree here >_>
a ) DOA isn't a life or death situation.
b ) She isn't fighting with her weapon of choice, a naginata.
c ) None of her appearances in previous NGs show she is even capable of hand to hand combat.
d ) I'm not sure what Momiji you've been watching in NG, but shes never been mean spirited, cocky, or aggressive.
You can't compare a situation where there are actual villains trying to kill her, to a tournament situation where people are just there to test their strength. Take into consideration she isn't using her primary weapon, and the fact this is her first tournament. The girl is going to question her ability. Also, she is a shrine maiden... bowing is perfectly natural.... It's also a show of respect in Japanese culture. The lower you bow, the more respect you're showing.
Similar situation was people going off about "How Kasumi would never kill" and "Her addition in NG is so uncharacteristic." < - and to this I simply laugh and tell them to watch her DOA3 ending. She is capable of killing, and will do it to protect the ones she loves and in self-defense. Just because you don't want to, doesn't mean you wont do it.
