If we're talking about the E3 tournament, keep in mind that Hitomi probably has the fewest changes from DOA4 to the E3 build of DOA5. In addition, she was playable in the Alpha demo and was Vanessa's main in DOA4. So Vanessa beating people up with Hitomi isn't really representative of how good the character is. It's more about Vanessa's knowledge of the character compared to everyone else's knowledge of their characters.

That said... Hitomi was probably one of the best characters in the E3 build. ;)
Didnt know that. DOA5 is going to be my first DOA though. What she pulled of just looked crazy for an outstander like me lol.

Most shit in DOA looks crazy for outsiders. Like fighting while the building around gets destroyed and shit.

True that but what actually blew my mind was Hitomis damage output. At that time i didnt know the properties of hi counter and stuff. All i saw was the lifebars going down like crazy lol

Nah if you've never played before just run through the cast and see what you like, or do like I do, and wait til a tier list comes out and pick the character you like the most thats the highest on the tier list :)

Tier whoring is pretty shitty in my opinion. We have to play the characters we like because of fighting style, looks, personality or whatever instead of his/her placement in a tier list.

I always play characters I enjoy playing, but there's definitely something to be said about playing a good character.

I've been debating making a post on 9/25 with my tier list, but I don't know yet. I figure someone is going to make that post no matter what, so it may be better if I start things off since I'll have more knowledge than most everyone else at that point. But I don't know if I even want to bother with tier list discussions... they never end well.

Whether or not you make one, as you said, it WILL be made. You're just one of the few people who will actually breakdown each character to figure out their place. I'd be willing to take yours as one thats at the very least thought out. So, personally, I think you should, and not just because I'm a "tier-whore." I mean, regardless my character will probably be between Tina, Lei Fang, and Jann Lee, unless they are all garbage tier.

qoodname, being serious, when I train anyone at a fighting game, I tell them to start off with a high tier character just so they can learn the game at the easiest level first. I learned the game on Kasumi, I got wins, but she wasn't for me, but she taught me the game well. I'm teaching a guy to play Street Fighter and he wanted to play Gen. Gen is NOT a beginner character, so I gave him a list of a couple characters to choose from to learn the game on (Boxer, Dictator, Ryu, Honda). He chose Boxer. At my first RanBat his Gen got absolutely bodied. At my second one two weeks later his Boxer got 4th place.

Of course i dont wanna pick the crappiest character in the game but neither do i wanna pick to most op one. I guess ill just have to go through all characters and see who i like most. As long as there isnt someone who gives me hand from time to time ill propably have to learn it the hard way lol

To be fair, I'm locking any posts/threads asking for what the tiers are.

However, threads for discussions about the character match-ups are fair game.

Month 1 tier lists are stupid.

I think competitive players from other communities will want some sort of reference to a tier list. Even if it's just to see what makes some characters better than others. Plus, it's nice to have a history of how the tier list evolved. I'd say it's more important to keep any tier list discussions heavily modded rather than prevent any tier list discussion.

DOA isn't a match-up based game, so there isn't as much match-up discussion as you'd have in MK or SF.

You misunderstood, the discussion of a tier list is fine. The posting of or asking for an immediate list will be modded.

If month 1 tier list comes from people like Dogg, Rikuto or Zealot, I'm fine with them. In fact, I'm totally up for Dogg posting a tier-list the first day so everyone can move to Busa sooner and stop the bullshit.

He could be low tier and people would still pick him. He's just a popular character.

My main in 3 was Ayane, in Ultimate was Hitomi, and 4 Ayane.
In DOA5, from the Alpha demo I think it's going to be Hitomi, they removed some important moves from Ayane.

Am I Zealot? Just wondering. Also, I think Ryu is a popular character, but I think if he was as bad as Brad Wong or as hard to play as like Kage, I don't think people would pick him. People pick Ryu because he's got a cool headband, but also because its easy to beat your friends who ALSO don't know how to play the game with your mastery of being able to do hadokens and shoryukens on command.
