Kazuma Kiryu is a true hero. This character is way too good for DOA lol. DOA is not up to that level and doesn't have the guts to add him though unfortunately.
Totally. I did want him as a guest prior to 6 release, but after the whole mess 6 turned out to be and how it just keeps on delivering the biggest and dumbest decisions, I don't want him near DOA until it goes back on track. I'm also glad Virtua Fighter characters were left out of 6 for this exact reason. Too bad SNK gave them the greenlight to bring Mai back and also introduce Kula.
I don't like the idea of existing characters changing their sexual preference to fit a narrative. Why not create new lgbt characters that are relatable yet badass? Look at Zato 1 and Venom in guilty gear X2 and onwards! Hell! Kung Jin is another example from Mortal Kombat X!
Exactly. Don't do this. It's ugly how they think giving us the gays some random ass character that has never been even hinted to be gay will make us like him just because of that. No thanks. Design characters with the particularity that they're gay, do NOT make the whole character around them being gay or turn an existing character into gay outta nowhere. That's scummy and like trying too hard to give the game "representation tm" without even trying just so they can appear as woke lol.

Yakuza - a series I once liked but am tired of seeing and hearing about atm. Ultimately those games got repetitive to me and I can think of a million guests I'd rather have than Kiryu.

I don't have a problem with him but his design is just as generic as Diego's to me. :(

Even though DOA doesn’t deserve Kiryu at the moment I think he would do DOA good. The way he looks and his whole demeanour would make DOA cool.

I think Kula is a good addition to the game, she’s really fun to play with and actually looks pretty cool despite being a little girl. She has something unique. I think DOA is going downhill when it comes to their characters and DLC. I really hope they get their shit together this year because I can’t see this game last another year, or 2.

Diego: muh mother needs money so I need to fight to earn money. Who is my mother? haha nice question. Also I won DOA 6 tournament due deus ex machina.

Kiryu: He decided to be a Yakuza because he idolized his foster father. He isn't a being of light but he has a strong moral code. That is his true strength.

He sacrifices himself to save his best friend, he accepts his true love daughter even if she isn't his own daughter, he tries to mediate and fix Tojo's clan crap every single time because he feels guilty for being a ex Yakuza ...

Kazuya Kiryu is way more than just a "macho" unlike Diego. He has a lot of character developtment and he is a grey character. What's Diego?, just a concept made to appeal western market with easy and lazy "diversity representation".

I didn't say his story was bad, I said that his design is nothing to get excited about for a fighting game. Diego looks boring af and so does Kiryu.

It's not really fair to misinterpret my post and spoil the story for people who haven't finished in the process btw. XD

How in the flying fuck, and seven river sticks, is Kiryu boring/generic? I'm asuming some of you never played Yakuza before. Kiryu has 1000% more character than the offbrand Miguel of DOA.

Character is not a problem. Story is not a problem. Design? Meh there are better options.

Girlie, this is a 2000s character we're talking about. You can't put him in the same generic standards as Diego. Diego was created in 2019, Kiryu in 2005. They are 14 years apart. For a character that first appeared when he did and in the type of game he did (a game with a yakuza-themed story featuring your typical hot MC yakuza man you can see nowadays in lots of Japanese media), Kiryu is original enough. Diego tho? It's been done before in a fighter, and better.

Axel, Blaze, and Adam Hunter from the Streets of Rage series, easily.

Despite the angry mob lashing out at you atm, I see your point.

Diego could have been cool if he had received more than just 2 costumes. We don't know him. The DLCs couldn't define him more obviously. So it seems that fans are going to define him through the costume contest. TN has no more love for its characters.

Also, let's have the story segments that were cut, they problably had some Diego scenes.

One year and Diego feels so empty.

Instead of guests id love more original characters tbh. I still think TN at the next DOAFest should have a character design contest with a male and female and returning character remake/redesign category so we can give them more inspiration besides just costumes which they don't seem very varied at choosing. I have like 3 commisioned character designs legit WAITING if they'd give us the platform to submit them xD

What angry mob? People are just stating that Kiryu is more original, has more personality, and is way cooler than Diego. They’re not wrong, lol. Diego is a lazy 5 minute design, both story and gameplay wise. Comparing Kiryu to Diego is a classless act.

A fighter like Diego is honestly one of the basic archetypes almost any fighter has. Diego is a new character but he feels like he’s been in DOA forever because that’s how bland his design is.

I think what Diego would’ve made cool if he had a fighting style that wasn’t seen before and that he a different personality instead of the “I’m too cool for this, I’m a macho man” attitude. The only thing that I like about Diego is that he’s good looking.

A character design contest would actually be cool, but I’d also be afraid because I already know that TN would pick a chick with the biggest rack or one that’s Loli like. I think TN should stick with guest characters at this point because that gives us a bigger chance of finally getting a Male dlc.

Character is not a problem. Story is not a problem. Design? Meh there are better options.

You might have to go a bit deep for this one. Design seems vague. For start, do you mean design in attire? Kiryu has roughly more than 20+ outfits he can wear throughout the series including the spin-offs. A tuxedo, singer outfit, business man attire, actor attire, a doctor outfit, construction, scientist, and plus many other outfits that can also be out of the ordinary. He is like the Johnny Sins of that game. He literally played every role from what the series gave him. Well yeah people are not wrong, he was that talented.

Do you mean design in combat? well.. he literally has 4+ separate fighting styles depending on the game. They are all actually different where even if DOA somehow did include him, i'd still try to figure out on how they might balance him (or which fighting style they'll prioritize over). He actually has a lot to go over and I think TN might properly balance him and respect his entry, unless of course TN ruins the character which I doubt since they'd pay for his entry (as it should be). Diego is nowhere near that type of character and quality to how he was made, to which I also think he might be too good for this game. There are better options yeah, but there can be always better options regardless on what it is. If you had to "really" sink in, he's better than majority of the DOA cast due to story writing alone but it would be quite obvious that DOA peeps may get triggered by reading/hearing that which is good. I mean can't deny it, it's actually true lol.

In terms of his overall character and personality, Kiryu is actually a pretty interesting character with how one views things that actually makes sense to the real world (especially Y0). As the series progress, his life and the city he once knew started to change, which in turn forced him with the consequences and actions to what a city goes through including Yakuza politics and crime lords. It's the sheer moment and willpower to leave something to help people and to become the greater good. Anyways, this discussion is off topic. DOA is not on the level for that type of character if DOA itself doesn't grow up.

I just realised that the account responded to someone they play Ayane for her personality by saying “she has an amazing story” lol. Humility on twitter.

Idk tbh, Master as the community manager I feel would would make it so where the western player base can have more influence, that or they can at least do separate categories for the West and Japan since without that they'll always priotorize Japanese entries like they did the design contest and photo contest. I'm still mad my entries lost to the winning pics since those pics while cute had no real direction or aesthetic to them, all of them besides the Nyo one seemed kinda basic and had no depth or vibe to them. Even the costumes besides the Phase 4 one seemed just like random cute pics rather than finding costumes that told a story or had a symbolism that suited the characters

And I'm ok with guests as long as it's ones I like, I'm not really too hype for Kazama Kiryu as most are since he doesn't interest me, I'd rather someone from Tekken like Jin or Lili or just an original character who uses an older moveset refined like a Genra one, but I kind of don't want them to since I have a concept I think they could use to hold Genra's style I may share with Master if he ever opens his DMs xD
They probably don’t have Kiryu because they couldn’t get permission to make a gender bended version
I think it's more lack of potential revenue and sales from it. Kiryu would sell twice over in Tekken, wherein in DOA he would likely sell roughly more than the male DLC costumes do. I just don't think DOA is the game for him to be a guest in since the majority of the playerbase(myself included) and casual fans wouldn't be rushing to buy him, where with Kula and Mai they did well. It's like if they had Geese in DOA, he'd sell poorly compared to Tekken 7 where it's Male dominated central. They're gonna choose who they know their main target audience will flock to buy and Kiryu I just don't see getting that hype besides who on FSD like him. They'd be better off bringing back Leon
