Team NINJA is Planning to Reboot Dead or Alive and NINJA Gaiden

Some breaking news has been released today during Team NINJA's keynote at the South Korea G-Star conference by Fumihiko Yasuda that Dead or Alive and NINJA Gaiden reboots will be the future of the company after the release of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty & Rise of Ronin. The final image presented in the breaking story has been translated by key individuals in our community including @WAZAAAAA and @Matt Ponton respectively:

Team NINJA's Future - Reboot of Popular Series - Images of NINJA Gaiden & Dead or Alive

There is a lot of information in this story, and we will break all of it down here at Free Step Dodge, but this looks like extremely positive evidence of a future and now is probably not the time to leave the DOA community if you were planning to jump the fence. We've been covering Team NINJA's Fumihiko Yasuda all year and he checks all of the boxes of a proper president: he's been honest, he's developed legendary games, he's focused on the present and the future.

We don't know all of the details yet, but everyone interested should be inclined to give Yasuda a chance after (in all due respect) the marketing blunder that Yohei Shimbori was vacuumed into as Team NINJA director and producer for Dead or Alive 6. Shimbori was put into a position where he could not excel with DOA6 and was unfortunately retired because of it not to dampen the rest of his career which was a legendary run on his part.

If we find out in ANYWAY that these translations are inaccurate, we will remove them, but as of now they have been double checked, fact checked, site checked and approved for this story release. Also, it's important to consider that the term 'reboot' can mean a wide array of different things, some elements that could have negative impact and some elements that could have positive impact and we ask that you consider that when discussing the future of the games. Seeing as how Yasuda has been as transparent as he can be to a global audience; this is a good indicator of things to come.

Do you think they will replace original voice actors with new ones?

Okay, Houko Kuwashima already replaced Sakura Tange in early 2000s, but you know what I mean.

Wakana Yamazaki (Ayane) is already 57, for instance.

If they plan the hard reboot, then...
all the og girl in doaxvv just given new lines of dialogue in the latest update, they're still active

Generally speaking, the Japanese VA/Seiyuu culture is very different than the west's. Once a person voices a character, they are that character and can't be replaced, unless one retires or dies (ex: Daisuke Gori). It is mainly out of respect.

True but that doesn't really apply when you reboot a series. Every character could, essentially, be an entirely new character simply featuring the same name. Genfu could be Eliot's age in the reboot. Nobody knows.

Not "nobody", more like, everybody now... rightly or wrongly. The past 4-5 pages of this thread is discussing this news as it says in the headline. Also:

Nobody said "DOA Reboot." You're jumping to conclusions like always.

How much more obvious does it need to be? You don't put in 'series reboot' add DOA and NINJA Gaiden as pictures and not expect DOA and NINJA Gaiden.

When they said they are looking for clarification what they are really saying is they want an interview because it's clear as day. Literally everyone is posting this, and my Google notifications went insane with copy-cat stories.

In terms offering clarification they don't have to clarify anything because they also haven't denied anything and that is clarification enough. What people want are game details and that's what game trailers are for. You'll find out then is my guess.

If they do respond to this news outlet, I'll be pleasantly surprised and look forward to it.

Oh me? Well I m expecting an uproar in steam chat and forums soon. All I can say is will TK finally listen to the fans or will they love the smell of their own farts? Either way, a waiting game ensues. This I gotta see.

I'm with grap3 on this one, this isn't really confirmation of anything.

It's confirmation that NG and DOA are safe. We all know these are not game announcements.

Which game comes first and when is a totally different topic. The other stories that feature Yasuda this year (such as the outsourcing mentions) definitely imply safety of the franchises when you had some fans saying, "oh DOA will never come out again."

Man I literally hope I'll still hear Yumi Toma voicing as Leifang in a newer Dead or Alive game. I mean sure she originally voiced as Ling Xiaoyu from Tekken (plus Nina and Anna Williams) alongside Ivy Valentine from Soul Calibur whom which they were replaced by other Seiyuus for the role. And of course let's not forget Gen Fu was voiced by Takeshi Aono and Chikao Otsuka, they both provided the voice of Jinpachi Mishima, then again I know they're both deceased. Even after Leon's first voice actor died, he was replaced by Jouji Nakata (Kazuya Mishima's original voice actor). I'm always still hoping those current Dead or Alive fighter seiyuus will still keep their roles even if the next DOA game is planning to reboot.

Some teaser or something for “DOA/DOA7” at the game awards would be really cool but realistically I know we’ll likely be waiting for a year or more maybe for something

@Rikuto Not just limited to DOA. Every FG in my steam library has some form of let down that I wish we could have had more. What can we do? Other than just grin and bear it and make do with what we have.

Rikuto is 100% correct. The community at the end of the day is paranoid, but there are two ways of looking at the news presented:

1. The community should see this as safety of the DOA franchise and enjoy the rest of Team NINJA's games while they wait for the BIG ONES. Yasuda actually kind of went out of his way to do this, and I've said this before, but even when he was being pestered about NINJA Gaiden coming back he said he wants all series to come back whether they are created by a younger team at TN, outsourced or done inhouse.

2. The journalist viewpoint is they want trailers and official announcements so they can get their interviews and clicks.

Also, I feel like this proves that the DOA community is stronger than we may even realize. Team NINJA knows that DOA players are heavy contributors to sales of their other games and this is a chip we need to utilize if need be.
