Clive is definitely another out of the blue choices, especially since the game came out last year (I think or was it 2 years ago?) Guess Bamco love their relationship with Square Enix.

That or they want to promote their most recent title which makes sense since FF15 debuted in 2016 and Noctis was their first guest in T7. I think they want to birth a new FF fan base in T8 to make sure it keeps it's current flow, I can see another guest in season 2 but most likely a fighting game rep

Tifa belongs in a game that can showcase better looking female characters. Ahem... DOA. Clive being in this DOA6 wannabe game makes more sense to me. Take everything I hate about this generation and it's in Tekken 8.

I'm sorry. I'll leave now. Maybe Tekken 9 won't make their community that hates DOA look like a bunch of hypocrites for playing the same god damn game.

To be quite honest, I had a feeling. Noctis was a special case because a while back Cup Noodles was doing a promotional and signed a deal to getting Noctis in. Was beyond Nomura's paycheck.

The main person behind it is probably Nomura. Sakurai mentioned that getting Cloud and Sephiroth in Smash (along with the music) was an extreme hassle including Sora. Despite Tifa being popular and arguably makes the most sense, Nomura doesn't see it that way because he's a main character andy (he prefers Cloud). Clive was easier to get in because his designers were under Yoshi-P.

In Ever Crisis Tifa is getting bikinis now, but in Square Enix's eyes only they can promote Tifa and no one else lololol. I think it's Nomura and his team being extremely picky of their characters.

Overall, If Soul Calibur was still around I think Clive fits better there than Tekken. Personally I feel it's a waste of a guest slot with being in the wrong game but hey.

They need to knock it off, they're sounding super corny xD they're only going this hard since the reception to him being announced over Tifa or Anna or anyone else who's actually been requested by fans is mixed if not low. Next time they need to make a better choice, but I'm sure the FF company itself asked themselves for him to be in like they did Noctis.

Harada and the team are probably doing this to deflect the mixed reception so FF doesn't feel a type of way but what do they expect? No one expected or asked for him

I think they are memeing. Reason why I think they are memeing is because by Tekken 9 or Tekken 10 Clive is no longer relevant for a consistent hype. Recurring guests are a thing, but these days it's game dependent, such as full on crossover games. Super Smash and Marvel vs Capcom for example are games that excel in that. Tekken doesn't really excel in that currently (well... they tried with SFxTekken but that was a crossover game).

Clive is about to pull a one time DOA5 to DOA6 Mai LOL. While i'm glad Tekken finally got a guest character, I also agree that Clive just wasn't it I feel, i'm not a Tekken player and even I can feel that sentiment. If Soul Calibur was still active he would of been 10000% perfect there and I would have no complaints of him being a recurring character there if I was a SC player. Same with Haohmaru or 2B. I know people mentioned that Tekken has lasers, Yoshitmitsu, combat bears, Devil Jin etc. and I get it, but if they keep that up Tekken is going to be full of visual effects clutter (which by the way...has way more clutter than T7 when examined pretty heavily)

I heard that SE are very protective of their holy Tifas and Clouds in fear of modders doing their usual weird stuff with them, so they won't allow them in such games or on moddable platforms

Pretty much. Square doesn't mind collaborations generally, it's usually the specific people and game on where they are trying to get the character. In particular Tetsuya Nomura is one of them, the man who created Tifa. He's been known in interviews to be extremely picky about certain things when it comes to characters being in other games. It's why you'll never see Tifa in a DOA because he doesn't see Tifa as a sex symbol (despite Ever Crisis now giving Tifa bikinis and somewhat other fanservice bits) and he's a main character andy, aka Cloud first and then ask me about other characters after.

Another reminder that Sakurai himself stated that Cloud & Sephiroth (along with the music) was the 2nd biggest hassle to work with (#1 being Sora from KH).

So will Clive become part of the story like Akuma did? Maybe every series is connected to the Tekken universe, they just don't know it yet XD

As much as I still like Tekken, I hope the new VF makes it seem archaic...

I can understand that, Itagaki was the exact same way when that nude mod of kasumi came out in DOA3, and square Enix I'm sure is already kinda having slight nervous slips whenever Tifa or Cloud get risqué mods. It's like they know what the community is gonna do so they purposely try to avoid their inclusion in current titles, fighters especially since ryona and mods spread like wildfire, and i doubt they want to see Tifa being sonned and abused by Heihachi, Reina, or any character in Tekken 8 who has a win pose where they humiliate the loser xD

Clive ill give a chance tho, I have the pass so I won't just write him off since he's gonna be the main center of attention until Anna drops with her bazooka and new look next year.

This FF16 shit in Tekken is corny af. The game continues to outclown itself with each new update. Would have been better in SC but Harada made sure that series died.

I do appreciate how this is an outrageous troll on Tifa fans. Not only was she not the last character in the pass but it was a character from a totally different FF game nobody asked for or wanted. It's doubtful we will see another FF guest character in Tekken 8 so there goes that lol. Talk about taking a massive Nickelodeon style shit on the fans lmao.

It's also super amusing how FF16 is literally "Netflix with buttons the Game" and you can get the same experience now by toggling on Special Style (which can now be hidden in online play if you're embarrased!) and just mashing Triangle. Long single player like combo, watch a 15 second RA cutscene and more easy mode flashy mechanics like Heat Smash. Tekken has become a total joke.

The other thing is, if youre a legacy character fan like Asuka or Xiayou or some of the other minor Tekken characters, you should feel kinda peeved how much work they put into Clive over your characters. I think its amazing the detail they put into Clive to be sure, but its really cringe the Tekken originals wouldn't have gotten as much attention.

I think my favorite part of the whole thing is seeing Harada actually meet up with Yoshi-P, Clive or no Clive.

Yoshi-P is legit my favorite MMORPG director of the current main game i'm playing (FF14). Never thought I'd see the day. Not too pinnacle excitement for Clive, but I absolutely pray Tekken stuff makes it inside FF14 in the future.
