How is everybody enjoying the game so far?

I don't know about Leon, and I agree about Tengu. But people actually DID use Ein, high level and casual players alike. He was used in DOA2 and 4. His omission is legit, not on par with SCV's character omission but he was certainly cared about and hardly considered a "nobody".

And it is legit to complain about characters regardless, even ones you don't use. Because cutting characters from fighting games, especially fighting games is detrimental to the game and to do it for story purposes? You can't really compare that to Tekken, Asuka more or less WAS Jun with a different model and attitude. People just actually liked Jun. Ein and Leon on the other hand have notable differences from their counterparts and replacements (Hitomi), enough differences to make a matter in competitive play, which is kind of the point of fighting games to begin with.

You are right however, they don't make or break the game, but it would be a better game for many, if they were in it. Not even going to comment on SCV anymore, literally cut every character I used and liked from the series, I gave up at that point. I'm done with SC.
I got lucky with SCV, even though they cut out Cass and Soph, I ended up liking Patroklos just as much, I do feel for the people who used Zas, Talim, Yun though.

I think the same thing happened with sfIII when they cut out everyone except for ryu and ken, people weren't happy.
Nice to know that it ain't just me who couldn't believe they cut those characters, and feel like they shouldn't have. Yung Seong and Seong Mina were characters that I generally use to screw around with to have fun... and so I ended up losing a lot of fun.

Patty boy was a nice addition though, even though I ended up giving his style to one of my female creations, as well as Pyrhha for an alternate version of her.

Ein, Leon, Tengu and Spartan were all really part of the DOA family. While I can't argue for a guest character like Spartan to come back, I feel like the other 3 deserve a spot in our game. Hell maybe people like offbeat and such will return simply because of it. There's still so much more time for this game to grow, in more than one way, and this could really be one of them.

As for my experience with the game so far, after my first tournament, I finally learned how to think, and adapt, change what I'm doing, and play to my own abilities and ideas rather than go autopilot all the time. This game is really something impressive, no matter how I look at it. Can't wait for that netcode buff though.

worthless trash

yeah because zack players are flooding the place with how abundant they are...oh wait no one uses that joke character and the only reason hes still on the roster and most likely will never be cut is because TN needs that one token black guy comedy relief character to fill a slot on the roster which he doesn't even do well since brad and eliot are far more entertaining during the shitty DOA5 story than that played out unfunny bum of DOA character. he'll always be unpopular and useless and it doesn't help that hes shit tier and by far the most garbage character on the roster in 5...clown has nothing going for him in this game and the only noteworthy thing he has is a........laser beam taunt? really?

I only have actually seen 3 Zack players online

I have said this multiple times....characters like Tengu, Ein, and Leon in my opinion don't make or break this game because they were already forgotten and to see people care about them now is laughable. Where is the logic in this? why are crying for someone you never used until now? It's kind of like you're being really picky for no reason.

Um, I almost exclusively used Tengu, with some Leon on the side. You wouldn't be looking at it like that if Zack, a character who is arguably even less popular than Ein or Leon, got cut from DOA6. Tengu may not have been that popular, but he was a fun and unique character with his own moveset. Yeah he was complete trash, but they could have easily improved him. It reminds me of how they cut Mewtwo from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He was garbage in Melee, but a lot of people still liked him. They could have just made him better, but instead, they decided to scrap him completely and replace him with a less popular Pokemon to promote the current generation. Then give him the Aura Sphere move and make it look similar to Mewtwo's Shadow Ball and pass him off as a "spiritual successor".

Anyway, I didn't mean to derail this topic into a debate about cutting characters. I was simply posting my experience with the game, since that was the point of the thread. I give thanks to those who understand and/or are sympathetic towards my plight though.

Man, I feel really bad for ya...For your sake and many others, I seriously hope they bring back Leon and Ein for 5+ and bring them to the console versions.(I don't have much hope for Tengu, sorry)

Yeah, I don't expect to ever see an installment with Tengu in it ever again. I think Itagaki must have liked him and decided to keep him. With Itagaki gone, Tengu is likely dead forever, with the exception of DOAD, which was more or less a port/reboot containing all previous characters (except SPARTAN-458).

Ein and Leon still have a chance though. If not in DOA5+ or DLC, then possibly in DOA6.

I used to play some spartan on the side in DOA4. Oh the glorious plasma grenade throw, HCT, SO MUCH DAMAGE! I don't especially miss her though... Tengu was a nice character, he had a few very good tools like the super-fast 8P+K on a downed opponent. I'd really like to see him (and Leon+Ein) as DLC.

Unfortunately, I'm not enjoying the game anywhere near as much as I had hoped. I'm not knocking the game itself, I think it's great, but I just can't play it worth a shit. They cut my main character (Tengu), as well as my secondary character (Leon) and now, more than two months after release, I still haven't found a character that I can replace them with.

I don't know what's wrong with me, but I just can't play this game. I was never really good at the last one either, but I was at least competent enough to play other average players and maintain a measly 54% win average (60% with Tengu alone). Now, I get my ass handed to me by some of the absolute worst players around and no matter how much I try, I just can't seem to get better. My win average is 29% and steadily declining. I don't know what to do. Sadly, I rarely even touch the game anymore.
Sorry to hear that mate. It's got to sting when characters you have mained for the entire series have been put on the chopping block & given the axe. I mean that would be like Tekken turfing Armor King or one of it's iconic boss characters, Heihachi. Here's hoping that you can get the grips with some new characters so you yourself can garner some enjoyment out of this game.

In a sense, i see where you're coming from. The soul series is my favorite fighting franchise but I'd be lying if i said i wasn't abit disappointed to see two of my three mains get shunned (as a few of the guys have mentioned above already). Not only that though, i was also surprised with the sheer amount of characters that were given the royal boot treatment, not just one or two, but a good handful (Setsuka, Yun, Talim, Zasalamel, Rock, Seong Mina, Sophitia, Taki) that is alot of faces to sweep under the carpet. Granted, most of this lot have been replaced by youthful doppelgangers but it's still the character that's gone, & the good ole "but you can bring these characters back in creation mode" is a bandaid solution that just doesn't cut the mustard imo. But hey, it is what it is & who am i to argue. ;)

Thankfully however i learned some of the new blood in SCV & the game is absolutely stellar once more (for me anyway), maybe the same thing will happen with you for DOA5? I hope so for your sake anyway, if only for your own enjoyment & to justify the money you spent on it. Good luck champ!

Keep in mind, the devs themselves like Ein and Leon and want them in the next game, at the very least. They just ran out of time.

Imo, it would have just been best to leave out Pai and Sarah and worked on Ein and Leon. Pai and Sarah could have been dlc content instead of players wanting their very own doa characters as dlc.

Best DOA thus far IMO, guaranteed damage and other character changes have made me happy. However Brads 236P should not be at -8 disadvantage on guardbreak, that needs to be fixed.

If Pai and Sarah were just DLC I probably wouldn't have got DOA5 until months later. I myself never cared about Leon because his character was never really fleshed out.And Ein available as a character just messes up what little continuity DOA has in terms of its story canon. If I was the devs I just would have made Leon and Ein palette swaps with their own movelists. You push start when selecting Bayman you get Leon. You push start on Hayate you get Ein.

I hate to seem insensitive to Leon fans but out of the 3 characters axed(Leon,Ein, and Tengu) Leon really served no purpose.Besides Mila makes a better and more suitable replacement. They could even do a story that Mila is Leon's daughter ^_^. And Ein was just a brainwashed Hayate. The only thing I find weird is how could Hayate forget all that Karate he learned but still remember Hitomi lol. I would rather have Raidou than Tengu return. I know players liked using him but he really didn't serve any purpose other than Itagaki's way of trolling Tekken's Ogre character :p.

Its fun. The best incarcanation of the franchise on a tournament level for a number of reasons no debating. When it comes to other things such as stage design it has to be the worst. The same goes for its archaic online.

With more guaranteed situations (sitdown stuns, cb, pb, etc), a sidestep system (even though it needs work) its simply a more respectable game on a tournament level than it was in any incarnation before ig. Everything else however is just lazy design.

When you really think about it the game is better on a tournament level but worse on a casual level which is new for DOA.

Or maybe Ein could be Hayate's evil clone or his evil twin brother lol.

The more I play the game the more I love it. Especially when competing offline. People don't know what they are really missing. Like I said before the only problem I have is the netcode. Trying to use online as a form of practice is just horrid and I don't think really work.

Hey now, I suggested the whole "mila is leon's daughter" thing months ago, and I'm sticking to it lol.

But on Leon...his brutality was unique in DOA, which is why myself, and lot of other people miss him.

Also on Raidou...I never liked "copycat" characters.
I do think they could "start to be ein" on Hayate, since it IS the same character, but Leon is his own character, would need his own slot.

Tengu I could care less, I'm always against bosses being playable, out of principle.
