^ you use jean? you should teach me this game @.@ i just got it while it was on sale and would enjoy some help from someone who uses the person im trying to learn.
While I wouldn't mind showing someone the ropes, my image would indicate that I have no idea what I'm doing and I don't think I'm the best teacher. But what I would recommend is this thread on VFDC. You have a bunch of knowledgeable players discussing what they feel are Jean's top moves and why. It's a good starting point but I don't know where to recommend going from there besides integrating some of those moves into your playstyle.

I started back playing this game again which is a bad idea since I plan to go to SCR for DOA. Messed up my game royally LOL. I'll start playing this game again after SCR. I forget how great VF is.

No PSN. Here's a summary of my evening though:

I knew Akira had some crazy side-turn game going on, but this is nuts o_o
Also saw the video just now. The Summer Salts (somersaults) must have been infuriating.

A lot of attacks that are used in a majority of matches are mostly linear, so you could try sidestepping a bit more. It can also keep your momentum going so you're on your toes a bit more.

I also see you like to use :1::P: with Akira. Since it comes out so fast and is mostly unexpected, you can follow it up with :8::P: to attack them while they're still down. It's guaranteed most of the time, so it's a good habit to develop.

Try working on your comboes with him more. :3::3::P: and :6::K::P: are good launchers to use to get a combo going. :214::P: is also good for trapping your opponent in a stun that can leave them vulnerable. Twice in a row to start a combo is also really good to do.

You throw out those Frame Knees like a boss. I can't do that worth squat in this game, so my hat goes off to you, sir X3

Lei Fei player here, he's unsafe as hell, so if you want any matches, just ask me.

I can always admire a talented Lei-Fei player. I'll be sure to keep your offer in mind : D

Feel free to give me some pointers.

I am no expert but here's what I can say:

First, getting beaten a lot the first hundreds of fights is normal. It happened the same to me. It happens the same to most people with Virtua Fighter.

Second, Akira is a very difficult character to begin playing. Have you considered trying an easier one? I had to try lots of characters in VF before I felt comfortable with one (Shun).

Three, It is important to begin with very simple things. Like, for example, If you hit your opponent you have the advantage and continue your offense. If they block your attack you lost your advantage so it's time to take defensive measures (be it easy ones like blocking, throw escaping, evading, or more complicated ones like the defensive option selects Virtua Figher is known for like ETEG, Fuzzy, etc. Also, the building blocks for Virtua Fighter are P, 2P and 6P. You can win fights just by using those three (P to start your attacks, 2P to interrupt your opponent, 6P to punish, etc.).

Hope this helps.

Can anyone help real quick

1 What's the difference between blue and orange counter hit?

2 What's the difference between ex_hi/low and regular hi/low?

3 How quick are throws? (game doesn't display their frame data...)

Also if anyone has tips for a budding Eileen and Aoi player I'd appreciate those too. From spending a few days in the dojo it seems like Eileen's main strengths are evasive transitions, p+k, and 6p+h6. With Aoi though it seems like you really need to know the other characters and player habits to play her effectively... but I'm guessing the goal is deflect their attack and go for a grab? Sundome seems good too

1. The blue flash is a Side counter hit. The other one is the regular counter hit.

2. An ex high is a very important move because, although it will whiff on crouching opponents, it will hit crouching opponents who are attacking (good for punishing 2Pers). Ex mids will guard break crouching opponents. Ex lows can be blocked standing, but are easy to input and quick to execute (2P).

3. Throws are 10 frames (frame data can be shown at training)

That was actually a pretty good display of Lei-Fei footage. I really need to get around to plugging my PS3 back together and start up a lobby, but my classic gaming binge is keeping me distracted <.<

Thanks for clearing all that up

You know I've only spent like a week with FS and I can already understand why everyone laughs at DOA

If FS had a story mode and maybe a little more boobage it'd be perfect.

In VF I never felt cheated out of a win. In DOA...

Praying for VF6.

What SEGA had always traditionally done was to create an entirely new VF utilizing the hardware from every up and coming generation of their time. Which was why we had VF2 for the Saturn, VF3 for the Dreamcast, VF4 for PS2, and finally VF5 for PS3/360. As far as a sequel sharing the same console goes, it would be limited strictly to revisions of the current game. Virtua Fighter 6 is definitely coming. We'll just have to wait for it to be announced for the PS4/720/WiiU <.<

As for comparing the gameplay between VF and DOA, VF5FS is like a choice cut steak from a fancy 5-star restaurant while DoA5 is the greasy cheeseburger from the local McDonalds down the street. I like them both, so I wouldn't say I'm bashing DoA : P

I'm more of a Burger King guy, but hey, I like DOA too.

Played this on a whim last night. Remembered just how much I love this game. I mostly got wrecked, but each time I was learning something and never felt like I got lamed out of a win. Hopefully I will play this more in the near future so if anyone ever wants to play vf or even doa, send me a message on xbl or here.
