I'm at the first save on Ayane's Day 6 and have 36 or 37 scarabs I think. I know for a fact I've missed a couple and I've only done 2 of the skull challenges. I haven't really been seeking those out though. Since the only reward appears to be karma I'll likely just do them all on a Normal run to save myself potential frustration.

Is it just me or is the Epigonos or however you spell it stronger than before? I'm only on Hard and the bastard killed me a good half dozen times before I switched to Lunar and wrecked his day. Keeping to one weapon at a time for the achievements is making things difficult. I have the katana one and I'm working on dual swords now. You get to buy your level 3 upgrades after Day 5 in case anyone was wondering.

Still really digging the game except for the Day 3 boss. Only completely un-addressed misstep that I've noticed so far. I did have a glitch during one of the tests of valor, almost positive it was Ryu's Day 6, where I finished the first two or three waves and was charging a UT while waiting for the next wave and it simply never came lol. No enemies left alive, bow targeting didn't snap to any enemies, ninpo didn't auto-aim at anything, and no enemies were frozen. One body was left slumped against a wall but the dude was dead. Guessing that body is what got stuck but yeah, I couldn't finish it. Had to load my save up and lost about 10 minutes counting progress in the challenge itself and then simply skipped it. Not trying to get glitched again and waste more time.

You also get one costume for Ayane (Purple ninja suit from DOA) and one costume for Ryu (Fiend Ryu) for getting all the crystal skulls.

Same for scarabs (Ayane=NG1 outfit; Ryu=Ashtar).

I'm gonna have to go for a skull/scarab run later then

Those chimera things fucked me up pretty badly especially the gorilla one who I could not stun for the life of me

T. rex is still as retarded as before except now he takes longer to do his little retard smash,I really hate that we can't do a dam thing to make it drop, just have to keep running like a bitch till it the game decides to give you a break, easily one if the worst NG bosses I've ever faught Im seriously surprised and disappointed they didn't fix this fight.

T-Rex is not very hard, but it is very annoying. Sometimes it just refuses to go down and let you hit it, making what should have been a 2-minute fight last half-an-hour.
Those chimera things fucked me up pretty badly especially the gorilla one who I could not stun for the life of me.
Try XX->XY (BotA). They'll typically block it, but it will prevent them from trying to do anything else. Eventually their solution to the stunlock problem will be "go for a grab!" and then (you guessed it) Steel on Bone them. That's been my tactic thus far, anyway.

Anyway, I'm somewhere in the middle of the snow level. Had to break for homework, but I look forward to getting back to it. Having a blast.

PS: I pussied out on Marbus' fight. I've done all the other Crystal Skull challenges, but the fights leading up to him contained way too many Van Gelfs who are basically impossible to fight effectively with the broken auto-targeting system. I could do a "no damage on Marbus" tactic, but I got sick of fighting Van Gelfs every time I wanted to try so after 3 deaths I called it quits and moved on.

Any point in playing hard or above in terms of unlockables? It's kind of laggy for me, maybe too many enemies

Trophies and costumes

Brute I'm the complete opposite of you

All the fights leading to Marbus I can handle no problem, But when I get to Marbus the pink fiends alway own me XD

I been stuck at it for 5 hours now, what wep do you use on Marbus and how to deal with the pink fiends with him?

Also for van fields use Lunar UT, makes it very easy

Hm, I'll have to try the Lunar more. It feels very strange to me in this one, quite unlike its NG2 iteration. Perhaps I just need to re-adjust.

I use the Falcon's Talons on Marbus. I use the Falcon's Talons on just about everything because the mid-string dash-cancels are the best way I have found to compensate for Ryu's stupid frame delays after attacks and slide dodges.
I handle the pink fiends mostly with patience. Wait until Marbus tunnels at you, dodge it, and you'll have a moment where he's stunned. Instead of getting some damage in, instead use the time to focus on the fiends. If you kill them all, though, he'll just summon them again, which gets you nowhere. So personally I leave one alive, as usually one won't overwhelm you and it's better than having the full entourage.
But again, that's just tentative. I gave up and still haven't beaten it. xD I'll try it again later in CC, but I'm anxious to power through the Story to unlock the Co-op features.

Lunar deals pretty heavy chip damage now. I'd say it's currently the most powerful weapon with that and how much invincibility it has.

Interesting. I really need to experiment with the weapons more; lunar in particular.

So far my very limited experience (read those words very carefully) has gone something like this:

Katana - More clumsy and random than in NG2, and sometimes gets you caught in long-loopy chains long after you decided you didn't want to keep attacking. But still, the most balanced/well-rounded go-to weapon.

Falcon's Talons - Shorter range and worse guard breaks than the Katana, but much more controlled and the dash-cancels do wonders. UT is still kinda balls, though.

Dual Katanas - Good at de-limbing and overkill offensive as usual, but rather unsafe in large hordes.

Lunar Staff - Missing the old XXY. Has one of the most reliable Izunas due to it's aerial reach and sweep. Haven't noticed much else, honestly. Very limited experience. Wonky Steel-on-bone and UT take it down, though.

Eclipse Scythe - Not nearly as useful as in NG2. Many of it's i-frame moves have been removed, and it's destructive power just doesn't seem on-par. Quirky UT, just as before, and it's Steel on Bone has great reach for chaining (but initial contact can be hard to initiate due to speed).

Kusari-gama - The ultimate BDSM roleplay. Against fiends and non-humanoid enemies it feels like poking a dinosaur with a stick. Against human enemies, it makes everyone your bitch. A stupidly-awesome aerial pull which can lead into an Izuna; Demon Cutters everywhere, great stun potential, great range/sweep (including the ability to initiate an OT from over 10 feet away), decent Steel on Bone, useful i-frames, etc. Just...

Kuma Kodachi - Excellent Steel on Bone initiation and chaining. Decent UT, good speed, good de-limb rate, overall very versatile. Little lacking in damage, though, and too many combos lead into aerial flips that leave you exposed with an otherwise safe weapon.

Naginata - Pretty slow and stupid just like in NGS2. Fun enough, though, and oddly effective against alchemists.

Wakizashi - Fast, great de-limbing, good Steel on Bone potential, amazing UT, some stupid attack strings (XXY), etc. Becomes far more effective when combined with her Ukifune.

Are you pressing Spamming T when doing the lunar SoB? Lasts longer

No, I haven't. Thanks for the tip.

Still, the fact that you can't chain them is a downer.

edit: Am I the only one who misses the old Styx drop (that full-circle floor-swipe spin leading into it) and the Shrike drop (I think that was the name. Kasuari-gama throw where he chained 'em by the neck, threw them on his back, then lunged forward)?

That got me down too. I'm still trying to grind for karma, so I'm going to stick with the bladed weapons for now before I reunite with my beloved staff I missed so much <3 In the meantime I'm slowly leveling it as I make my way through the story.

Lunar is at it's best against bosses. It constantly deals damage, whether on hit or on block, and is incredibly hard to punish for the AI. You can pretty much just hit XYX...on any enemy in the game. You either lift them for an Izuna or stop there and land safely during their guard stun window. Stupidly powerful weapon.

The lunate stylish animation makes up for it and the T spam sob only works for the animation where he's flipping the staff with both hands, spamming T makes it last longer

lol

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'll start playing with it when I got back and see if I can make the magic happen.

I'm still dying to try the Kusari-gama trick against the Regent. Gonna be fkkn epic.

Is it right that they took most the IFs away? I mean you got to admit we abused the hell out of the things and then we ask for harder games its kinda expected to happen.

Does anyone else have trouble using the the Guilitine Throw? I can hardly get them to connect anymore.

I can try to live without the over-abundance of i-frames, but the only thing that bugs me is being unable to dodge mid-string coupled with the long recovery time. And that's just about it :/

I can only land Guillotine throw on the ski mask gunners. Everyone else would just roll to the side and dodge it. It's harder to land a GT on anything more than it used to be. Which is saddening since it's one of my most used moves in NG1 and 2.

I used to wind jump to guilt throw but it's not very effective in RE Foward jump to guilt works well
