It may be due to security and piracy reasons. MS doesn't want their next xbox to be mod central. Total lockdown.
What the hell do controllers have to do with "security and piracy" concerns?

If you were buying used you might as well have been pirating anyway... Publisher sees the same cut.
This is probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen said on this forum other than a Max quote.

Publishers don't deserve to receive a cut of used game sales. They already got their cut; that game was sold as new at some point. Asking for any more is them trying to steal from you.

From what I understand allowing just anyone to make an accessory that interfaces with the system is a possible security issue. I know the older handheld systems had this problem and these 3rd party devices were often used to run pirated software

1) We're talking about controllers and the like.
2) The Xbox 360 already has licensing in their controllers and accessories and refuses to use unlicensed ones.
3) You don't have a clue.
4) The PS3 allows for unlicensed controllers like generic USB PC controllers to function on their console and that had nothing to do with piracy on that system.

I only said allowing outsiders in is a possible security issue. And even licensed stuff can possibly sneak stuff in. Similar to how several apps with hidden tethering snuck into Apple's app store and apple reviews all code for 3rd party apps sold in the app store.

So apparently MS put a patent on achievements for Xbox last year hmm. Came from X360a which came from GamesIndustry. Waiting on a achievement called couch potato "watch X amount of TV"

Whatever profit gets made by 3DS gets swallowed up by Wii U, lol.

Lol. It balances out though ;). Come fall when Nintendo's first party hits, Bayonetta 2, Sonic Lost World, and The Wonderful 101 come out however, Nintendo will be making some serious profit. I know I'm getting a Wii U for Christmas because of these.

Nintendo 1st party's yes, but are you sure those 3rd party titles such as Bayonetta 2 will sell well? I love Bayonetta and think it's an amazing franchise but the game isn't exactly a system seller. Did the original even sell that well?

Also, to be able to play those games, that would require people to actually buy a Wii U. The system seems to be like the Wii except its gimmick isn't nearly as attractive to the casual gamers as motion controls were. But lets see how things are this Fall once all 3 consoles are on the market. I expect a big shakeup!
