been a while since i've futzed with skullgirls but im pretty during combo trials and the tutorial it shows both the inputs and the name of the moves, at least it did in the 2nd encore. Maybe in vanilla skullgirls they only showed the move names without the inputs but it eventually got fixed

I have 2nd encore and it shows both the name and input but only for simple things like s.LP and s.LK but then the specials are just the names with no input by it. E.g. c.MK (move name)> c.HP (move name)> Hairball(HK)> Fenrir Drive.

Yeah it's a silly thing that some 2D fighters do. I like it how DOA just shows the inputs generally.

I've just never seen it before but if SF does it then it kind of makes sense SG does it. No idea why anyone would prefer the name over the input.
