I see you. I remember giving both DoA and VF my time during the same time period. Crazy how much my playstyle has changed and how particular habits are gone. I feel more comfy fighting in general and look more precise in my actions without fear of holding back. It's crazy how much of a different person I see in all my videos 4-5 years ago

I thought the hardest part was finding a reason to enjoy it, especially if you're trying to fit in and be a somebody.

This is why I have issues playing DBFZ and Tekken in general. KOF, Dissidia, VF, and older Capcom fighting games? Not so much.

It's a similar vibe when learning a new character, but to a lesser extent. But yeah, learning a new fighting game, especially going from 3D to 2D or vice versa, really brings attention to how much depth there really is in any fighting game.

maybe this is because im a completely jaded camel, but as long as you have opponents who are willing to fight, that's all the community you need. You don't need to forge bonds with other players who are as passionate about the game as you are, just ready up so we can do this chump

also if you wanna overcome the whole "learn 30 new MU's thing" I find the best way to do it is to just play a top tier. playing a characters who's so OD that they don't have to worry about what the other character can do is a good way to make alot of the cast irrelevant and focus on the MU's you actually have to worry about. getting this point though is the hard part, yeah you could just look at a tier list, but no..

i find the best way is to start with a character you feel comfortable with or really like, and grind the hell out of the game with them, that way you learn MU's but more importantly, you learn the meta, you learn what's strong, what's weak, what's solid, what;s a gimmick, and slowly but surely piece together the makings of strong character in that specific game.

Totally exact opposite feeling for me in SC6 because Tira is low-tier now vs 5 where she was. She's still a solid character but has always been inconsistent as you have to cope with your good moves being removed and added every 5 seconds or into the next round. I feel a reason to like it but there's more reasons for me to say, who am I trying to impress by playing this? I wish I had more my skill level to play rather

Cont. Than either complete scrubs or try hard mofos who I can hang with but don't feel as convinced I'm getting better, Just rolling dice on my reads because there wasn't much to learn in the first place/master. There's characters that dictate the pace too much and it's tough to convince x character to chill. I just VF it and it works. All it has going is 50/50s, that's it. Not much depth to it.

this is actually what im doing in smash ultimate, because who the fuck has time to learn 79 MU's? so right now im just grinding out the game with characters I like and enjoy (Bowser, Palutena, Kirby), but can bet your ass once I have a firmer grasp on the meta I will drop these characters like a bad habit (maybe not Palutena, she's strong, but she's early game strong, and every1 uses her now so every1 knows the MU)

@Force_of_Nature @Camel with 2 thumbs @Awesmic agreed yeah. For me it's more on the line of time invested.

Imagine putting 90 hours in an adventure game and then the save gets corrupted. It's a major mood killer to the point that I can only see myself going back to it if I wait like 3-4 months before doing it all over again or if the game is that super fun to go back in right away.

Fighting games in that portion is pretty similar for me. For whatever reason, I immediately sigh looking at another game with different mechanics, another 30+ characters to memorize what they have, and joining a community because it's really: "sigh, man I have to do ALL this AGAIN in a completely different FG brand for the 3rd time. The game is fun, but i sigh because it's literally starting over."

As much as I hate to say it, and I'm certain few people will actually admit it, but part of the reason why people don't take up DOA is because the game is a very large time investment for most players. I.e. The player coming from a different community will be leaving their comfort zone and learning a game that plays and feels different to most fighting games, effectively having them learn so much new stuff/meta.

Something like DOA5LR can be incredibly overwhelming for a new player, and I find that most players like to jump from similar game to similar game (i.e. A lot of anime fighter players for instance).
