Some of my favourite games overall are linear (jncluding Bayonetta or DMC3 for instance). But I'm still glad to hear that DMC5 is better than Nier: Automata. Must be an out-of-this world experience!

Well, it depends. DMC3 is a completely different game from DMC1. Gameplay is a lot more combat focused, to the point where it becomes the most important aspect of the game, whereas in DMC1 knowing the weaknesses of the enemy is key in order to survive harder difficulties. Anyhow, while i really consider Nier:Automata to be the best game of 2017, since you can experiment a lot in that game too

when it comes to combos/juggles, the only thing that DMC5 lacks in compared to Nier:Automata is story, since as you said, DMC games have a linear story, whereas in Nier:Automata things are already complicated enough even if we don't involve the events that happened in Nier. The action, quality/looks, gameplay is all better in DMC5.

DMC5's story is not lacking compared to Nier's. WTFLOL

@Brute They'll make Vergil, Lady and Trish playable at a certain point. The gamefiles that were datamined also seem to be suggesting that as well. Maybe even Lucia. Plus, I'd be super surprised if they wouldn't do anything with a game that is as successful as DMC5 is right now.

I hope all of them make it (well, honestly, I don't care about Trish, but I guess she has fans so w/e). Vergil I'm sure is the most requested, naturally, and while that makes sense, I'm honestly most excited for Lady. I loved playing her in DMC4SE, and with the way that DMC5 in general focuses on expanding gun mechanics and making each of them feel unique and satisfying, I'd love to see what they do with her.

Forgot to answer FoN if it's better than Bayonetta. I mean it depends, some stuff Bayonetta did that I liked that aren't present in DMC, but not by much.

I think DMC3 and DMC5 are better than Bayonetta. Some say DMC4 as well but I have mixed feelings with that one aside DMC4 had best gameplay portions+Vergil. If you like Bayonetta you should be able to in theory I guess, like DMC. Depends if you like the tone.

Big bad demon comes, Dante saves the day (or at least tries), hordes of demons arrive or are ready to arrive to wreck havoc, Nero gets his ass kicked but eventually he's the one who will kick ass in the end, Lady and Trish don't do much at all. There were some nice twists in the story, however, in my opinion, there are a lot of elements that reappear from previous games, especially from DMC4.

@Brute I really like playing with Lady in DMC4 as well, she feels very strong and is able to easily handle enemies 1v1 and in groups too. They could give her some new gun(s) or do something different with the DT gauge compared to the explosives from 4:SE.
@DestructionBomb Still have to play Bayo, need to start that. My issues with DMC4 are that Dante sections are rough early when you barely have upgrades and weapons

@DestructionBomb Thanks again for the response. I'll see how DMC5 is, but you sure DMC3 is better than Bayonetta? I'd liked the stuff involving Vergil, but gameplay wise I enjoyed Bayonetta miles more. Felt like the controls were sharper, and more potential creativity during combat & gameplay The lighter tone also suits Bayonetta's "tongue-in-cheek"-ness. But yeah, the relatively darker tone suits DMC better.

unless if you have like 20 fingers to be able to switch between styles regularly while doing amazing juggles. Then we have the Dante sections which are reverse Nero sections.

@ChaolanLegacy Play Bayonetta, the game still holds up reasonably well if you play the 360 or XBone versions. Some of Platinum Games' finest work.

Apologies if the topic seems more out of bounds. It's just that I'd like to picture DMC in a world portion similar to Nier while still trying to be DMC and lengthy. DMC fixed a bit of things that Nier didn't do despite how linear DMC was. I just can't let my thoughts be clouded by an android who has a pair of tits and ass determine if it's a good game or not aha.

@Force_of_Nature I actually have it installed on my laptop right now but I don't really have too much time to play too many games nowadays. Got Sonic: Generations, Bayo, Darksiders: Warmastered Edition and Tomb Raider in the last weeks but I was only able to go through the first three stages in Generations in Act 1 and 2. I'll probably start playing it tomorrow or the day after that, I have more time on my hands then

@Force_of_Nature Feel you there yeah. I mean I had a huge time on Bayonetta to where I even platinum'd the game, but there's something about DMC3 that keeps you in suspense and making the situation addicting to progress. Like every moment was a "cool" moment. It's just the game tone that's different and characters such as Dante+Lady+Vergil are likable. Gameplay is debatable, but both games are linear so eh.

I do feel that DMC would be able to pull of the Nier open-world like structure but at the same Nier could do the mission-like structure that DMC's been using for years now. Hack'n slash games tend to have something unique or outstanding that the rivals lack: DMC's and NG's story imo lacks compared to Niers but DMC has much better gameplay compared to NG and Nier but NG takes the cake when it comes to on-spot decision

making, compared to DMC and Nier where you have enough time to react and counterattack. All of these games are really good but they aren't perfect, no game is after all.

@Force_of_Nature DmC by Ninja Theory I wouldn't dig into, but some people liked it and I think Bayonetta was better than that game imo. I thought it was "ok", but preferred Capcom's DMC (which is the best DMC hands down).

DMC3 is, IMHO, still better than DMC5 with regards to atmosphere, progression and narrative. That's not a knock on DMC5, but 3 just did these things so, so well.

On a marginally related note, I'm still disappointed that DMC5 doesn't have alternate costumes beyond garbage recolors and "Super" costumes. I liked the variety offered in DMC3, and it made completing each difficulty very significant and rewarding.
