Nier Automata is a fun game, really enjoyed it. Great action RPG. Haven't played DMC5 yet, looks fantastic when I watched someone else play it at casuals last week. Is it better than Bayonetta?

I feel the same as Camel except that I never bought the games thinking Nier has a barrier with the RPG elements. Not a fan of RPG elements in games that shouldn't be in said games. I don't like RPGs and very few grasped my attention. I rather play something dee-de-dee but that's how I feel about 1P games. Despite me being in the ultra rare group that fiddled with the skill tree, maxed it out n beat the story in AC:OD

Nier thinks it's one of the best games ever made.
DMC5 is one of the best games ever made.

*In your opinion. Doubt it's better than Ninja Gaiden Black.

Same with HZD and the beasty armor. I think I can do RPGs, just rather not. 1P games=Relax time, shut off the brain then FGs=where I like my challenge. Even that has its limits. I don't want devs catering to casuals bc I know how it feels and the feeling of uniqueness and awe when you can do something not every1 can

It's only your opinion that it's in my opinion.
See? I can contribute nothing as well.

@Hold_Junkie93 Amusingly, I tend to auto-pilot in PvP games more than single-player games.

True, you did contribute nothing. We have agreement there.

I said I can, not that I did.
You're having trouble following along, but that's nothing new.

If I do want challenge in SP it is something like NG though and beating MGS 3 on European extreme. MGS is great.

Lol I'm the wrong person to ask, I love bayo to death (100%'d it three times), dmc is more something I play so I can say I've played it so my opinion is bunk, on that note where the hell is bayo 3

You contributed no more than I did. Shut up.

@Hold_Junkie93 Yeah, I like the SP in games like NG too. Just a really addictive gameplay style.

Yeah, DMC, RE, Tomb Raider OG, GTA, there's a lot of franchises that are both popular and solid. So, there's peer pressure to beat them or even play them. In all those franchises I just mentioned, there are some I didn't play or beat 100%

I mean the development team and Yoko Taro himself said that he considers Nier to be a Hack-N-Slash before it's treated as a JRPG. Many action games have RPG elements attached even if it's trying not to be an RPG, so not sure why that's being used as a sort of avoidance to be paired with another game. Heck, DMC1 has RPG elements and wasn't trying to be via Hideki Kamiya when he was in Capcom.

You provided your opinion. "Nier Automata is a fun game [...] Great action RPG." That's your subjective opinion. You were not scolded or mocked for doing so.
I then provided my opinion. You then smugly replied: "*In your opinion" as if to suggest that my opinion somehow warrants some kind of disclaimer that it's an opinion when others don't.

Well, this begs the question, why are you comparing DMC5 to Nier: Automata as opposed to say, Bayonetta, Nioh, Ninja Gaiden, etc. I.e. for formal "hack n' slashes?" Nier: Automata is fun for the way it combines Action RPG gameplay with hack n' slash mechanics. It melded them well and it suits the game. Nier doesn't strive to be "better than DMC" or anything.

Imo if you like Bayonetta which was done by Hideki Kamiya who also worked on DMC1, you'll probably like DMC (maybe, currently Itsuno works on the games). Really depends if you'll like the game tone. Bayonetta and DMC are linear as hell so there's that (which is what I wanted to get into from Nier and DMC). Questioning if DMC could have something like this to make the game last even longer while still having a blast.

I honestly would like to see some event-type things in DMC5, preferably with co-op. Even if they're just mini-Bloody Palace modes with leaderboards and some cosmetic rewards, it would be fun to give the game some continual support.

I do fully expect to see some DLC for DMC5 in the future, but I think it will take a while (you-know-who is totally gonna be playable, eventually).

@Force_of_Nature The actual development team for Nier has a habit of comparing itself to DMC, Darksiders, and God of War 3 in articles. Yoko Taro specifically. (Those are also games that aren't focused as RPGs but yet they have RPG elements). On a fair note, why "wouldn't" you compare them when they are in the same category. The JRPG element is a sub entry, not a main one. It's still a Hack-N-Slash (core), RPG (sub).

Alright, thanks for the response. Yeah Bayonetta is the closest equivalent to DMC overall, though I wasn't really a fan of DmC's gameplay (though I liked the graphics & cutscenes, which Ninja Theory does well). DMC5 does look fantastic and look forward to picking it up in the future when I get a chance. Nier: Automata was designed with a large open world in mind, but linearity isn't a bad thing.
