That fight was kinda BS though....Its part of the reason I hate resources like that. That was Jins match and basically lost from 1 whiffed mistake losing 99% of his health. Like come on. Rare or not, that's nuts.
90% double fireball into wallsplat into demon combos have been a thing for akuma for a long time now (i think even Poongko was doing them shortly after Akuma came out), i think this is just the first time seeing it in a high level tournament setting. But this kind of thing happens when you make a guest character faithful to how they play in their home game, and it can lead to some game breaking stuff
this like when Bayo got put in smash 4 and her combo ability was faithfully preserved, this allowed her to perform one touch kill ladder combos on the whole cast, which was obviously busted. So when ppl complained defenders would always reply with "but that's how she works in the original game!" which is true, but it made her busted as fck
Akuma is basically the same way, he is extremely powerful when he is playing SF4 in Tekken 7, complete with stun links, FADC's, and cancelling into Demon, which gives him a edge over everyone else in the cast. Does this make him busted? i wouldn't say, but that wall damage is stupid, full resources or not. Meter builds very quickly for Akuma anyway so it's not like it's that's hard to get 2 bars
Akuma has earned that though, it's a reward system while having disadvantages for it. Have you seen Akuma damage kit without using meter in T7? it's mediocre. On top that Akuma's punishment game is not very strong using zero meter in T7, many times that character "has" to use meter to maximize punishment game, otherwise he'd have to rely on traps and 50/50s in T7.
Imagine burning meter from a ws2 combo from Akuma, just to do the same amount of punishment damage as Devil Jin when he punishes a similar move. He burned "2" meter bars (his whole gauge really) and a Rage Art. Akuma was also nerfed in that department and built meter quick in the past. On the truthfulness, Super Akouma played smart and took advantage of Jin mistakes catching CBM in 50/50 crouch mixups with ws2+jumps.
@Raansu how is it BS that he got punished with a 90% combo? The damage might be insane but that was Akuma’s reward for punishing Jin. Just because somebody makes a major comeback, does not mean it was “Jin’s game”, because it wasn’t.
In DOA you can punish with throws that take 50% health. You can even punish with environmental combo’s that take 90% health. Combo’s that take 90% health is more prevalent in DOA than in Tekken. Whenever something like that happens in Tekken every Tekken player is whining about it and suddenly want a nerf for said character because it’s “unfair” or “broken” Like, can characters get something nice for once?
How? It’s not like he can do that right of the bat. Akuma was basically was on the brink of death and used it as a comeback. The 90% was situational. Like DB said, Akuma basically needs meter in order to be good. His meter had to fill as well. So, no it’s not busted.
Its pretty busted. That scenario should have never happened, especially off a single guess. Its just another reason why I can't stand comeback mechanics.
DOA6 has lots of "erase the health bar" punishes with its environmental effects. It also has meters.
Meters are traditionally used in FGs as an excuse not to properly balance normals. Add a meter maid in a game that isn't predicated on meters to begin with, you'll get weird scenarios like that. Guest characters are typically either unfaithful to their established incarnation, or end up faithful, awkward tumors.
