Imagine thinking DOA6 is a better utilization of their resources than Nioh2. Like, I love DOA but... C'mon now.

Completely beyond ridiculous when TN had been poor treatment with their own franchise.

I think "wasting" was just the wrong word to use. It's just that DOA is basically one of their main flagship series and it's being treated like some budget game which gives the impression that they do not care about it anymore (a lot of companies nowadays feel that fighting games will not sell anymore so why pour money into them). DOA6 simply didn't get the same amount of care and polish that Nioh 2 seems to have.

@SaihateDYNAMO That's actually what happened to Bloody Roar ironically lol. Konami mentioned at a NicoNico stream awhile back on what they thought about SF and Tekken. Konami's response was "Fighting games are not profitable". I tend to make fun of Konami when Kojima left but it does make sense on why Konami sold the studio that made Bloody Roar to Nintendo, and didn't even bother renewing the IP.

Really not surprising coming from Konami.

@NewWestFan Yeah it'll take a miracle to convince Konami to renew it. The only way I can see Bloody Roar coming back is if a 3rd party company helps make it and then split the royalties and revenue. It's safe to say that BR is literally gone, but I like surprises so maybe Konami may catch people off guard (which I doubt KEK).

@DestructionBomb Konami and Bloody Roar was the exact thing i was thinking of actually! I wish fighting games didn't have such a negative stigma nowadays in terms of how well they would sell but it IS Konami we're talking about here

It is not only about DOA, but about NG too. I believe that even if they will make a new NG, it won't get same treatment as Nioh. I understand that Nioh is quality game, but it mustn't serve as replacement of main franchise. And if Nioh was so good and had a high budget, why DOA gets a low budget, they made a lot of money with DLC and couldn't make a good game (not better than 5, but on the same level)

In DOA's case, it is pretty clear that Koei-Tecmo doesn't really care about it all that much beyond being a vehicle to sell DLC items. NioH sold reasonably well and ends up justifying a higher budget by having a higher chance at selling better than a new DOA game. It sucks unfortunately, but it's the reality of the situation.
