Doa is never gonna be seen as a serious competitive fighter to most outside games and the general game community so I can't really say that'll change xD

@KasumiLover For DoA players. Not Everyone else, that's easy to say. I know there's half of us here who prefer 5 over 6 in every way. Just wanted to see others' viewpoints on the future of this franchise. If there is 1 I suppose we're either DEAD or ALIVE

I think DOA6 is viewed overall as competitive but there's just players who don't like or play it because they feel the mechanics doesn't benefit them or something similar but overall it's still played competitively

think the mechanics themselves have benefits for everyone is the issue. It doesn't encourage critical thinking skills to overcome a situation. It doesn't teach players the things they truly need to know in order to be good at DoA outside of the triangle system. 6 invokes bad habits.

I don't think playing solely 6 makes your DoA skills hinder. Mostly 5-6 but it does feel like it blocks away the engagement of the 3D fighting. DoA doesn't need an extra meta with meter. Oki was enough and should be the only thing improved upon besides characters, stages, graphics and presentation. Most fun I have in 6 is when both of our gauges are gone

I don't want DoA to be something it's not. I come to DoA because it's a different experience from other Fighting games.

Before 2012 yes we can be competitive. Now that we are on the age that rape is just burshing elbows and birthday suits are classified as nightmare fuel, that's never gonna happen. Unless you sellout to companies like redbull and cup noodles then we have something.

Yay. But not because of DOA6 in itself. It's because of DOA's longstanding stigma, the fact that most FGC players don't want to play DOA competitively, the DOA community engaging in toxic, self-loathing behaviour effectively discouraging people to take up DOA, along with Koei-Tecmo shooting the franchise in the foot constantly, and Team NINJA honestly not knowing what to do with the fighting game franchise.

@Force_of_Nature Some realism there but not entirely agreeable. Otherwise most played would of been dropped the game at DOA3. Remember that people dropped DOA4 because you have mechanics that do not teach you anything other than providing mindless clutter with the only thing holding the weight of that game is visuals like Rikuto mentioned. Which is basically just that, visuals.
DestructionBomb

People stuck around DOA2, DOA3, and especially DOA5 because they do teach you some notion of gameplay while tolerated the stigma. Stigma is definitely a core reason why people wouldn't try the series, but it is without a doubt that gameplay can also be a piece to that issue. Trying something new is good, but there is a barrier to that sort of thing.

Whenever someone mentions "the mechanics doesn't benefit them" to another, they either provided genuine details as to what came to that conclusive outcome to begin with (which is hilariously rare), or they have zero clue on how these games are suppose to work out because they'll play anything that's new simply because it's the latest trends (very common).

DOA3 and DOA5 are games that still sorta hold weight to what you can use as ammunition to convince someone to "still" try the game because the impact and feedback for those games are pretty genuine for the most part and to overlook the stigma, I even got Yipes to try the game and he had doubts of the series's credibility at one point for bad and good reasons and he enjoyed 5, 6 however doesn't convince.

Even if they could fix everything through updates over the next year, maybe it would get to the point where a few pro players notice its back in form and spread the word, but unless there's another physical release I don't think the vast majority of pro players would take notice of it and come back... outside of maybe just those who have played DOA at that level before.

I think we can agree that we all want DOA to at least get back to the level DOA5-DOA5LR was competitively, but I don't see DOA6 getting back to those levels. It'll take a DOA6U or DOA7.
DestructionBomb
DestructionBomb
@inochinagi Could vary. Kwiggles doesn't play it anymore either, but people could still play the game casually without having to compete for it so there's nothing wrong with their decision. We still help people improve and find tech through their streams or what they write.

Hmm... To put things in perspective, has there ever been a DOA tournament with 200 or more entrants? (Paid or otherwise). Almost every single fighting game has gotten 200-500+ entrants at tournaments before no problem, but DOA can never seem to get to that level. In terms of competitive mechanics, indeed DOA3 & DOA5, or specifically DOA3.1 & DOA5LR are the best, but unfortunately not enough.

West I believe no, but it has reached 270+ players before in Japan (DOA5U, Flack won that tournament). Like when people look at DOA3, DOA5, or even DOA2 for that matter, you can find some loophole or way to convince someone to play it even if they choose not to like it in the end, 6 really didn't have this impact to promote the entirety of it nor from it's gameplay.
