All of them are sorely missing solid offline content and unlockables. Every last one.

the Smash games, Virtua Fighter 4, and a handful of anime fighters are the only fighting games I've played that have fun single player content, the rest are sorely lacking

but I'm a training mode/online monster so no skin off my bones if fighting games skimp on the single player

For modern fighting games post TTT2; Killer Instinct has good offline content, MK11 & Injustice 2 are decent and I guess some anime fighters like Camel mentioned.

To put things in perspective, Overwatch & Apex Legends have practically no offline content (which of course is just expected now with online multiplayer games). I guess my point is that FG's could compensate for their lack of offline content by actually having good online offerings.

I should have specified that I was talking about modern fighting games in my earlier post lol.

@Camel with 2 thumbs There are a lot of fighting games that offer great offline modes, Blazblue CSEX and CP+EXTEND offered a variety of great offline modes, Soul Calibur 2+3+4 probably have the best offline modes a fighting game could ever have, especially 2+3, old Tekken's too, there are a handful but just like @SaihateDYNAMO said, the latest ones don't really have much or any.

@Force_of_Nature Exactly, in order to offer enough replayability to players who are more or less newbies to a fighting game or fighting games in general but they're not exactly beginners anymore, ensuring a stable/functioning online netcode would be a must if the game lacks replayability through offline modes to get them more hooked to fighting games than before.

@Force_of_Nature Of course, once they're investing time into said games by learning the mechanics and characters that are offered to them at a decent-ish, middle level where they're starting to understand what is happening on the screen, offline modes become less important than before but I feel that there needs to be something that'll keep them invested in a fighting game until then.
