    I haven't looked for them but there's real, actual Fatal Fury and SNK characters as NPCs in the backgrounds of stages for this one as usual, right? Gonna be sad seeing them back there with these guys in the forefront, smh...

    @inochinagi yeah, they weren't going to be playable if they're in the backgrounds. I predicted Raiden's return until I saw him in the wrestling stage. I even thought King has a pass, but lo and behold, she's also in the background. Now Robert and Yuri... I don't see them yet, so cross fingers!

    I really want a Switch 2, but nearly $700 here in Canada has me really holding back.. (hey, I guess at least it's like $1000+ like a PS5 Pro is here tho). And basic physical games over $100 each. Never thought I'd see the day I can't afford gaming anymore.

    The Switch 2 is a little bit of a tough sell if it's going for $650 CAD when the PS5 costs between $480-$650 CAD for the non-pro versions. I'll look over to see how it compares with a Steam Deck OLED 512GB though which sells for $689 CAD.

    The only cost efficient modern console is basically the Xbox Series S, which doesn't come with a disc drive for physical media (and doesn't allow an add-on like the PS5 digital slim).

    Play what game, Parodius? I've played a lot of different Gradius, Parodius, even Otomedius, lol. A lot of that is thanks to MAME. I'm actually sure I played Parodius Da many many years ago, cuz I remember fighting Honey Miyako (the boss who says "wow"). I gotta play it again sometime tho.

    And man, Yuko Nagashima is one of the few people I'd travel some distance for, for sure (but not to the US).

    Yeah Paradious 2. I didnt know that there was an Otomedius. That sounds like a fanservice version of the gradius series. XD

    Yeah pretty much. It has both Konami fanservice and fanservice fanservice. One of the last games Koji Igarashi produced for Konami. Sadly the latest/best version (Otomedius Excellent) is still trapped on Xbox 360, no BC and no new ports since that release.

    yeah that to, the robot designs were very sexually charged but it definitely made the game stand out

    was there a story reason for it though? like were the designs in line with the themes of the game or was this just a case of "it looks interesting, theming be dammed", I don't remember jack about the story lol

    I was pretty invested in the story, watched the anime series and OVA too (missed the GBA game tho), found it all pretty awesome actually. But no, can't say I found any explanation for the designs, lol. Maybe in some Yoji Shinkawa interview.

    Sony is really something this gen eh? lol. They're all in with digital now. End of an era. I don't think this means the end of games & movies on discs, but it doesn't make things any easier for what remains of the market. I guess Nintendo will keep physical games alive with their proprietary carts at least....

    my bet is PS6 won't even have the option for discs now

    I'm wondering if I should buy any physical games & other physical stuff (like an HDD) I've been planning to buy ASAP before the impending tariff wars... :/ I'm not gonna wait for there to be a possible run on the market...

    I'd recommend a HHD, but I'd get physical if you can. As someone who's only on steam, I wish I could have easy ways to get physical copies since I like having the actual game on my person at all times xD

    I only really get physical games for Switch now, pretty much everything I play on Xbox and literally everything for Steam is digital. I use an external SSD to play steam games off of, the HDD is more for recordings/videos.

    Get an SSD and physical games. As a small perk, there's no tax on physical games until about February 15th thanks to Prime Minister Trudeau in CAN.

    Is it worthwhile for there to be a "fighting simulator" rather than a "fighting game"? I've been thinking about the aspect of random elements & guessing in fighting games, and considering that while they make for poor elements in strict games/competition, they could be realistic in real fights. Maybe some DOAs can be considered more like "fantasy fighting simulators", lol.

    Don't forget that VF still has elements such as juggles and 10-foot tosses for example. It's really nowhere close to realistic compared to EA Sports UFC 5 for instance, and that's fine.

    Just to clarify, I wasn't thinking of visuals when it comes to realism in this instance, I was only thinking of the fighting/gameplay. But I take your point, lol. I guess UFC games are like the extreme end of realistic fighting simulators, but there's a spectrum between that & like, MvC at the other end, lol. Just look at the recent concept video, it doesnt look like UFC but it still looks pretty realistic.

    You know, it would actually be interesting to see a 3D FG without any juggling. Focus on the ground-game, throws, countering, footsies, etc. Or maybe at least just mild juggling again like earlier VFs & DoAs.

    Today was DOA4's anniversary. It'll be 20 next year at this time in 2025. Just in time for the occasion I got $1 Xbox Game Pass to get online and played some DOA4 online for the 1st time in 10-15 years and I had a blast. Somehow I was in a lobby with 3 other players and none of us got past a streak of 3.

    Weird how I found a good lobby with good connection easier and faster in DOA4 than I did in DOA5LR or DOA6... XD
