Unholdables are like those overlong guitar solos from the 80's. Very cool to know and impressive but ultimately impractical 95% of the time. Whiff/throw punishment and footsies are where most of my wins came from despite the fact I'm not that good at it.

It forces true 50 / 50 situations which otherwise don't really exist. You only have to worry about your opponent's 2 options instead of the normal 5 or so that DoA normally gives them while still keeping pressure.

Fundamentals will always be more important than advanced tech, but that doesn't mean it's not worth knowing.

50/50s exist everywhere in DOA, and there are far more prominent and threatening ones than unholdables.

I'm halfway going nuts trying to understand unholdables and how to use them. I've been watching Master's video about that, but I can't even get passed the first part which is just doing the hidden frame data part. He makes it easy using Hayabusa as an example, but when I use a different character, I might be doing it wrong.

An unholdable attack is a move that connects on the frame right before an opponent is able to execute a defensive hold on wake-up, thus forcing the opponent to block or get hit. If the opponent even remotes changes their wake-up timing, your unholdable will get fucked. Not to mention no one holds on wake-up and will either block or mash buttons anyway.

unholdables does seem to be a hot word these days, was in a lobby not too long ago where every1 was talking about how the amount of unholdables = character viability,

what? -_-

Yea seems like EVERYONE wants to use unholdables now. I can't complain, but I do feel I'm not yet ready for such an advanced tactic. My basic fundamentals still need work.

There isn't anything special about unholdables. They are just an option to put on opponents who like to tech roll into buttons. People are so far behind in developing in this game.

The odds of landing an attack successfully in an unholdable environment is 50/50.

The odds of landing an attack successfully in any other environment is far greater for the simple fact that they now have the ability to guess incorrectly on any number of possible holds.

So while it is beneficial if you are low on health, it is far from the holy grail.

That said, the true holy grail would be an unholdable unblockable. A thing which cannot exist due to true unblockables all being high.

The next best thing would be an unholdable guard crush with a guaranteed followup.

They're neat, but I see no regular use for them. My matches go on pretty good without them, and I sometimes realize I perform one when I'm not thinking about them.

So now folks are implying unholdables are a bad thing, and people who use them are bad players.

At this rate I'm convinced there is no way to please anyone anymore.

I said that they can be useful, but are not the holy grail. How you took anything else from that is beyond me.... or anyone.

Likewise, I believe some of you are exaggerating the idea people are treating unholdables like the Holy Grail.

Personally I'd be happy that people are even bothering to make discoveries on their own to level up their game at all, instead of making fun of them for starting to catch up.

Still not sure why you think anyone is making fun of anyone. But there are people out there who feel like having an unholdable is a make-or-break situation. Mamba is a great example of this type of person.

Of course I've always felt he was just using that as an excuse.
