Devils Third Discussion

I was going to come in here and go balls deep on this game but you guys already went in. This may come as a surprise the fact that its a Wii u exclusive is not a deal breaker. Whats bothering me is that these are the guys who made NG, a game with almost bulletproof controls and the controls in this game and the flow of this game(compared to NG:B) just looks like a shitty joke honestly. The aesthetic looks like they are trying to make fun of military shooters but that comes off as a shitty joke too. I hope that they are showing a much earlier build of the game because the older trailer looked like a mix of Titanfall and NG but this is just....AHHHHHRHRHRHAG!!

Gotta be honest, Devil's Third really wasn't what I was expecting it to be. While I’m glad they finally got out of the shadows to officially announce this game, I have to say that I don’t like the protagonist’s design at all. Ivan looks like a grade A douchebag that’s trying too hard to be cool and edgy as this stereotypical macho manly archetype that’s been going on as a Western industry trend. I very much prefer the other two characters that were shown in the old trailer over this guy <_<

As far as the gameplay goes, I can care less about graphics since that isn't what makes a good game. But the genre it's aiming for in general doesn't really grab my interest since I'm not a fan of shooters. It's starting to look like a typical run and gun TPS with few melee segments and wall-running. Not really my cup of tea if you ask me. At least the multiplayer mode isn't very typical, I'll give them that much. Being as open minded as I am, I'll give DT a chance to win me over since I know for a fact that Itagaki can make a darn good game, I'll keep waiting on more news.

Also, hush. The WiiU is a great console >:U

All this blind hate for the Wii U

IKR? I dunno what's up with all this blind hate for the console, it's pretty neat if you have an open mind about the games.

As for the Devil's Third itself, I'm leaning toward wait-and-see. Remember, before DOA3 was released and it got a showing beforehand via trailer, it too looked like garbage. However, I've never known Itagaki to experience a development hell situation before, so who knows? Either way I remain cautiously optimistic. Personally though, I was really hoping for something that wasn't just a shooter. Maybe if the game fails, it may serve as a calling for Itagaki to dabble with Team Ninja once more... preferably in the promotional department (or even to bring Aerosmith back to DOA once again)

Yeah I know, that's stretching a bit. But one can dream.

This is one of those games where it looks like the multiplayer might have actually been fun, but everything else about it is just..........

Well, it's been said already. No need to echo it.

Gentlemen, this is what happens when your game has been stuck in development hell.

Huge disappointment.....the game looks terrible. I had high expectations for this.....a game Itagaki and his top guys have been working on for years and it looks like this?! I am just shocked/speechless at how poor the game seems. Development hell indeed....this is very, very sad.

I would love to be proven wrong when it comes out and the gameplay turns out great, but I doubt it after seeing that.....

Well, it truly is up to Team Ninja and Platinum to carry the torch of top-tier action games now.....

The game appear definitely rough but I think that I'll wait to give final judgements, Itagaki made great works in the past and I think that there are chances because even Devil'sThird will end to be a funny game. But without doubts seem just that this time Itagaki was forced to give the priority to the release of the game rather than to a perfection of the same (and for this reason I'm glad to see that at least the game is being released).

EDIT: And of course, it's always possible that the final footage will present differences in the animations/graphic fields

Yeah I think people forget this is Itagaki. Just look at how quickly NG turned to shit after he left, the guy obviously understands how to make a fun game.

Anyway here's another video. It starts out with multiplayer then a new campaign level at around 6:40. The gameplay looks much closer to the debut trailer in this one

Look at how quickly DOA turned into shit before he left and how it got better after he left.

Itagaki had some good ideas and they undisputedly resulted in some really good games. But he's not the Jesus of the gaming industry. He's fallible. He fucks up just like everyone else. And when your game is in development hell for a few thousand centuries, the likelihood of you fucking up becomes pretty high.

It seems to me like this game suffers from two major things that make it look dated and generic as hell.

1. Really, really, REALLY shitty single player. Superman levels of absorbing bullets not seen since medal of honor, retarded AI, horrible character personalities, hilariously stiff facial animations, etc. Just bad.

2. The physics engine seems non-existent. When I see a rocket hit a car, and the car explodes... it doesn't move anywhere. It just sits there and turns to black with a bright light around it. Reminds me of blowing up cars in the original GTA 3 for PS2. There's no physics engine at work at all.... seriously. That is beyond disappointing.

If this game had explosives operating on some kind of interactive level with the environment, I could see the potential for some pretty fun multiplayer here. And that would have to be its saving grace because... man, is that singleplayer a train wreck. I feel bad about this game. It has good ideas. You can tell it's trying to be good. It wants to be good. It just isn't because too many corners were cut, or development just didn't happen in certain places.

Games like this, when they fail.... I can't even get mad about it. All I can do is shake my head and frown.

By the way I think that this time a major cause could be not a mistake of Itagaki but the lack of funding after the
bankruptcy of THQ: it's pretty possible that if the final game will not resemble the trailer could be just for this reason and not because ideas were missed along the development. In addition Itagaki is definitely someone that doen't get cheap ways or put his game under technical limitations, if something was wrong in the past is always been because he believed that could be right in that way and was personally satisfied of the outcome: a shame that this time apparently seems that he was forced to to make an exception submitting to external forces greater than himself.

OK, I just watched Okamoto-san from Valhalla do a more thorough presentation and discussion on the game just now on Nintendo's "Treehouse" live feed. I will say that the game came across much better in this particular presentation....enough so that my hopes are slightly brought up again that the game might turn out alright. It still looks very rough in alot of places but Okamoto did a nice job of explaining some of the intricacies of the gameplay that now has my interest again....

Fingers crossed that with the support of Nintendo they can work on polishing the game up even more. I will reserve judgement until we see more.

I was expecting this game to look bad, honestly. When has a game that was stuck in development hell ever turned out good?

Everyone's pretty much all said the same thing already, but yeah...

Even if I ever get a Wii U, I won't be picking this up.

Haven't watched it yet, so I'll just throw the link here so I can watch it later:

Damn, want expecting this to end up a a Wii U exclusive. Wonder if itagaki is actually pleased making a game on lower hardware.
LMAO I didn't even think about this. After refusing to work on playstation 2 for several games because the graphics were lower, he's developing on the wii U.

I feel like it's been too long since they last showed this... After checking Itagaki's facebook I'm more hyped than ever
