Leon and Bayman were pretty much clones in DOA2. They separated quite a bit in DOA3, and became completely different from one another in DOA4. The conversation of "clones" is absolutely moot. This isn't street fighter.

I thought you were referring to your objection to Momiji and Rachel being added to the DOA5 roster, since they were two popular NG characters that're often in-demand by fans.

How about we go with the realistic approach and just say that it's Mila and not Momiji, Ein or Leon because NONE of them are in the game. And that there is no "3rd" row of unlockable characters because there isn't.

Fine, I meant a 3rd row of unlockable characters that people "hope" will be in the game, not a 3rd row in general because there just can't POSSIBLY be a 3rd row of characters in this game, my bad for not clarifying.

I don't think there will be any particularly new characters from Ninja Gaiden. If what i believe about 9 extra slots is true, then that would be 31 slots, 30 characters and 1 random. There were 25 characters on the Character Select screen of DOA, and adding in Akira, Sarah, Rig, Mila and (maybe) Pai, that fills up 5 more slots, meaning DOA5 may as well have not only have Leon and Ein, but Tengu, Raidou, and Genra as well as the entire cast of characters!

I would only make one change to such a great idea, and that would be the removal of "Kasumi Alpha" and replacing her with Donovan.

Also, whoever made these little anime character portraits should finish up the cast! Kokoro, eliot, alpha152 and the new characters need some love

The swoozie video shows 2 rows of character slots that equals 22 with mila and a second character slot locked, there is no random slot there. The character select screen seen partially in the chronicles 2 shows another locked slot under akira. Its easy to discern that underneath the 2 rows will be a third row with 3 slots, 2 characters and random for a total of 24 characters.

We know for absolute certain who 23 of those are. The only question is the 24th Pai.

Not just 7 more slots on the third row, but 9 if you include the two spaces on the left. Imagine, 9 more slots. That would cover every character that showed up in Dead or Alive: Dimensions, with wiggle room for possibly removing "Kasumi Alpha" and perhaps another to make room for the much rumored Pai and maybe Donovan.

Really though, 9 more slots in a third row would pretty much gaurantee DOA5 has what it should have, and considering we know there will be a 3rd row already, and that DOA4 also had an asymmetric third row, there's no reason to doubt that they wont leave any empty space on the character select screen.

I like your optimism, but I can only see 7 possible slots still. Makes me wonder if they swapped Pai for Momiji.. Time will tell. For some reason I don't think that was the final version of the character select because the first image that leaked Mila on the character select had a secret character icon slot. I think they are hiding those secret character icons just so we won't know the total roster.

Yes that could be true, but that would look unfinished. Which could mean the rest of the area is reserved for free DLC characters if they decide to do them. It's hard seeing them swapping out Pai because all of her info was on the alpha demo. He also hinted at Ryo and that they're more Virtua Fighters or fighter I should say.
I'm still not ruling out Leon because they still didn't out right disconfirm him. I don't want to hear what if's or comments made about Leon not having a story or his fighting style is similar to Bayman..that could be BS they need to say Leon is not in and go with that-that's an actual disconfirmation. Even though his model was missing, he still had character select info. Wasn't Genfu missing some stuff to?

Edit: Another reason for them not to do a character reveal for Leon is because his style is similar to Bayman- which could be why they feel like they didn't need to reveal him.

Number 17 is another secret character unlock. Random select is not on there at all. Number 17 is probably Sarah considering Akira is right beside it.

Also, i dunno man. I dunno about that last slot on the 3rd row, man.... It looks like it might be able to fit... I dunno maaaaan....

EDIT: Oh i see what you circled now. It's not just the buttons and what they do, there's a small black border around the buttons and their descriptions that would interfere with that last slot.

No man. 22 plus Gen Fu is 23 with 1 more slot, that would Pai as that is the only character rumored in any way. Thats it, 24 characters, there isnt going to be more than that.

There is nothing "unfinished" looking about not having a full row to fill the screen, it just needs to be organized properly. In the case of DOA4 the third row is one short, didn't seem to matter.

Expecting to see a fifth row would have been silly for the case of that game though. There's hardly any empty space with the 4th row there, so its very neat and tidy. Also, there was never any hint of a fifth row, which is unlike the case of DOA5 as the first post in this entire thread includes a picture that clearly shows a character slot beneath the second row, implying a 3rd row. The question is, whether or not that 3rd row is 3, 8, 9, or however many slots.

I'm personally bidding on 8 or (very hopefully) 9 more slots in that 3rd row, as that would be more appealing than having 3 slots making a tiny 3rd row in the middle of the screen. Also, it would allow for the characters that showed up in DOA to also show up again, cause that's really just ENOUGH slots for it to be exact, with the inclusion of a random select slot as well as a slight removal of Kasumi Alpha to make room for another never-before-seen character, like Donovan or Pai.
