Did anyone notice this? (Mila's face? 24 total characters?)

Dang. That's gotta be wrong, right? Really only 24 characters? They gotta be cheesing people to fish DLC money out of them, or reeling them in to bait a re-release of a disc with an updated version...

23-26 is more than enough characters. Especially when they're all 100% unique. Unless you want them to go the Tekken route and start palatte swapping the shit out of the roster.

I'm not trolling. That AmiAmi site says 24 characters, meaning that third row is only 3 slots. Aside from lots of people running around saying Leon isn't in the game will likely mean Ein isn't in either. Alpha152 and Gen Fu take up two of those remaining slots, meaning only one character left. Only... one...

I'm the one who feels trolled by team ninja. I always thought something was fishy about DOA5, but I could never look away.

It was like watching a trainwreck happening right in front of my eyes.

I see no problem with 23-26 characters. It's about the same as DOA4 or another char or two which is fine.

....What's fishy? Everyone knew it was going to be 24 characters from the start... except maybe blaze.

The alpha-demo character roster leak has 25 characters, actually.

Quality over quantity I always say (plus 24 is a lot anyways. Remember when we only had 8 in SF2?)
Remember that time, 21 years ago, when a game had less things?
Yeah, me too.

The beef is DOA4 had 22 characters. Even if one of them was a guest character that could never return, that is 21 characters.
DOA:D had 24 characters excluding Kasumi Alpha and Shiden.
and now DOA5 only has 24 characters as well, except removing 4 or 5 characters from DOA:D to make room for Rig, Mila, Akira, Sarah (and maybe) Pai.

DOA5 just doesn't seem like the next logical step for DOA.

oh wait a second wait a second.
Levels referenced appear to be:
  • Plant Heliport
  • Gym
  • Lobby
  • Tatami
  • Pro Wres
  • Temple
  • Aquarium
  • Southpole
  • Battlefield
  • Circus
  • Train
  • Dorou
  • Jungle
  • Laboratory
  • Plant
  • Sibuya
Characters referenced with character select cameras are:

  • PAI
  • SARAH
  • AKIRA
  • MILA
  • RIG
  • BAYMAN
  • HITOMI
  • CHRISTIE
  • BRAD
  • LISA
  • ELIOT
  • AYANE
  • LEIFANG
  • HAYATE
  • KOKORO
  • BASS
  • LEON
  • HELENA
  • GENFU
  • KASUMI
  • HAYABUSA
  • JANNLEE
  • TINA
  • ZACK

That's 24 characters right there. Hell, maybe Alpha 152 will be selectable through some goofy button combination on the random select dice, like shiden in DOA:d

No... it just has strategy and stuff. Disappointment, I know.

Does it show a pic of all the costumes, explaining how to unlock them? If so, are the DLC outfits even mentioned?

My thoughts exactly. I don't need a lot of characters. As long as the ones we have are balanced and unique, I'm happy.

I hope not.

To be honest, I think DOA5 has more than enough characters. I have three main characters and there are so many others that deserve the time to master. I want to invest time in most of them. Most of them require so much time to break down. And I don't know where to start.

Do I pick up and old favorite (Bayman, Bass, Gen Fu)? Do I dedicate time to a character I previously ignored (Helena, Lisa, Brad)? Do I dedicate time to the new characters (Rig, Mila)? Other wild cards that have regained my interest (Zack, Kasumi, Ayane, Hitomi). All while trying to get better at my three mains? It's a lot of time dedicated to a game.

So the number of fighters in the game is plenty. But to each his own, and I respect your opinion.

They said many many times there wont be any dlc characters. Whats the matter with 24 characters anyways?
Yeah but Hayashi never ruled out free DLC characters, he said "no plans to sell characters as DLC":

It's still a great game, but I agree I wish there was more characters, especially more NEW DOA characters Mila and Rig is not enough, should of been at least one more new one. 24 is a decent number, but actually Tekken Tag T. 2 has 40 original characters with their own moves, the rest are swaps, but this time around they even made the swaps more original. DOA 5 should be at least at 28, I just like a lot on my plate and more characters increases longevity especially for casual players. Sorry I will never consider Akira or Sarah as new characters they're just guest characters in my eyes and that's it. However I still like the game.
Actually there's still a possibility for more characters:

Unless you are joking...Have you seen the achievement list? Alpha 152 is unlockable once you cleared all of the titles:

Nine pages since I last checked this thread. I expected to find that Mila was revealed, instead I found comedy gold.
Same here, I'm still looking for them to reveal the character already lol. Does any know if they gave some sort of hint to reveal Mila?

Tekken is longer running series and has had time to build a roster larger than where DOA is currently at. They add 2-3 new permanent characters per installment, granted we are 2 characters short this time, but still. DOA Dimensions was a compilation title so it included all characters plus bosses making the roster inflated. As it stands, all of the DOA characters in 5 are unique and each have their own appeal. there are no characters that feel like swaps or just lacking individuality so I think its a great roster and there just has to be at least 2 characters there for everyone.

Its actually the first DOA where I like the entire roster, in DOA4 id be like ughhh... whenever Leon, Spartan or Tengu would come up randomly of course that's just me.

I'm thinking they will at TGS, just before the game launches.
