DLC Costumes, a big ripoff?

I just finished spending like $39.99 on a bunch of DLC costumes....

are you serious? The costumes are ridiculously expensive.

I just finished downloading the cheerleader outfits, why does it need to be 71 MB for ONE character?

The $40 pack (if that's what you're talking about) is actually a good deal, it's something like 80+ outfits if I remember correctly. Other than that you're paying $1-2 for just a single one which is messed up and yes, is a big rip off.

Yeah, definitely a rip-off! Though I am guilty of buying a lot of the DLC outfits myself. I'm so weak... ;__;

Yeah, the prices are a bit ridiculous.

Didn't stop me, though. I regret nothing but the gawdawful bunny suits they snuck in with some of the good costumes.

The problem isn't DLCs in general, but good costumes. They are lazy.

I really have a problem with swaps (Lei Fang's dress, oh my...) and recolors too in general.
I don't mind "shared theme costume" (the bunnies, the cheerleaders and the santa costumes). They are not ruining a character's identity and they are not so tempting to be honest.

But, I found Gen Fu's recolor DLC (pink/white) very offending for Gen Fu's fan. He has like.. 3 or 4 amazing costumes that should have come back. His costume selection is too gritty and similar in DOA5. It's like they have abandonned him anyway. I like to play him casually, but I hate the way TN is treating him.

But overall, I am not against DLCs, that would be a lie to say otherwise. I like to see new good costumes on tuesdays, for Helena. Helena's headmaster costume was a surprise, for example. And since I only care about her, since she is my queen, I don't mind paying 1€ per month/every two weeks just for her.

I know these costumes should have been on the disk in the first place, but knowing how TN just rushed to finish DOA5 (and DOA5U), we would not have had so many costumes at the end. Costumes actually need time to be created, even the classic one (from DOA4/3/2/D). They are created from scratch, right ?

Now I can buy individual costumes I'm much less tempted to buy full packs now, instead I'm saving myself a good £4 - £6 a pack depending on if and how many costumes there is that I like.

You're downloading all of them on your system. Just buying one.

Doa has more unique costumes on disc than any other fighter for what it's worth

Well it seems like you valued it enough to spend $40 on costumes. Personally I think the costumes are quite expensive for what you're getting. ie. Gran Turismo sells cars at around $1 each or I think there was a pack of 15 cars for $10

They are a tad pricey but I just buy them for set characters (I really like that you can buy them single now).

Back in the day DLC was free.

But since I'm a sucker for costumes I'll buy them, but try and wait until a bundle orr something of that nature is released.

With the Direction TN is heading .. DLC costumes is no rip off.
One of the major reasons we didn't get Tengu is budget ...

Now thanks to reaching a nice sales level and all the continuous support we give them through the DLC they're offering, they are slowly making their money to bring the Arcade edition closer to release... and as you may have heard, it will also include an extra character..

Assuming that the Arcade will also be named DOA5U.. this character is VERY likely to make an appearance in the home versions.

Just to refresh your memory on an old interview that was once made with Shimbori. He said that he was against paid DLC for characters and Stages because this makes it unfair for the fighting community. However Costumes are merely an aesthetic change without changing the core experience, which is being a fighting game.

if you add 2 and 2 together ...
there is a big chance that we may actually get that extra character (still no confirmation on whether it is Tengu or not) for free. But even if we don't, honestly, at least it shows that they are giving great support to the community and the FGC in general. And it shows that they continue to do their best to give us a great experience which is constantly patched and updated. (and those things do not happen for free)

I would be surprised if it were a totally new character/babe. Didn't they say they planned to bring the "forbidden 3" (Ein, Leon, Tengu) in DOA5, but that they lacked time (and money maybe) ? That's the perfect opportunity for them.

But yeah, I think a new babe would sell better.. (Irene, Rio, Aoi, Vanessa, Eileen, Ulala, even Miyako)
