Updated the "Poligon Fighter" beta poster to identify all the characters.

So, looking at this with the new info and I'm thinking... Kelly has been cut in this build (he was playable in the very first screenshots), Fondei is using Tai Chi so what moveset does Lei-Fang use here? Lei-fang wasn't in the original concept art. Fondei was the OG Tai Chi master. Then they reworked him into Raidou. Right? That's my impression. Maybe they're just using his model to fill out space? He has win and lose quotes like a normal character in the 96 arcade build so Raidou may be quite playable with some minor hacking.

There were two completely different characters fighting for the "Tina" name. T-Bass got cut so they went with the wrestler Tina version and this is how she became "his daughter." The second character's design seems like it was reused later for Lisa and that's potentially why they're related in the story. Again, I'm just speculating based on some patterns I'm noticing. "Deadly Dancer" Tina kind of looks like a mix of Ayane (spinning/dancing) and Lisa (her style is more dance than lucha libre) but I think the story concept was reused for Christie's DOA3 ending where she's a pole dancer that quietly assassinates some dude with a needle.

"Kelly" was said by Itagaki on his facebook that he didn't make it far in development and was quickly replaced with Zack. Said also that his name was even an anagram or whatever for "Kick man". Though both my Japanese isn't skilled enough, and I don't remember his explanation of how. But has to do with ケリ and the ケ being symbolic of Kick.

This isn't awkward really, before they named Ayane as the training dummy, the dummy was called トレ子, short for トレニング (Training) 子(Child).

I can see why they cut "T-Bass", dude looks like freaking Birdie, since they did a copy drawing of the Street Fighter Alpha/Zero cast with few differences. I can also see why they reserved the prototype dancer-version of Tina for Lisa because 1) its an interesting design and 2) it look like that Tina at one point has some ethnicity. The team want to preserve it until they have the full background of the design. Took them years resulted in Lisa/La Mariposa.

Honestly, prototype #2 Kasumi looks like Mai... too much like Mai. Hell, the team look like she would have been the Chun-Li of the series at one point.

DOA1 on Playstation has a bunch of character names in blank, the cut characters have been blanked out, and I presume Bass and Ayane took two slots.



This is from the DOA2 executeable but it appears to have some leftover character names (I think). B-Belt, Harumage, Den, Nabe, Siawase, Zeek, Akagi, X-Ray, Jasmine, Dora, Mig. "Siawase" is the code/password to unlock Raidou leftover from DOA++ per Sorwah and I think the other names here might be Japanese DOA players' names/aliases from the default scoreboards.

Even though the demo disc came with the May 2000 issue, the disc has a build date of 2000-02-16, however, I'm not sure of the DOA2 demo's build date but it does seem like a WIP port of the arcade version. DOA2 released in the US on 2000-03-14 with a build date of 2000-03-06. This demo's build date is 2001-01-07, a full two months earlier than the final build and even pre-date's Millennium Edition's release date of 2000-01-18.

The demo build has a unique attract screen that's almost identical to the original Rev A arcade release (camera flythrough of stages) but adds different characters' lines each time you get to the title screen (the other arcade and home versions had a single line uttered by Kasumi) and it also adds the auto-demo from the other arcade versions but not the intro that was already present in Rev B or Millennium.

There's also missing sound effects and one minor texture change on a stage. The Tengu-boss stage is actually playable in both the auto-demo and for the player! This level was not playable for normal characters (outside story mode battles set there) until the F2P 2008 Chinese-only PC release.

The DC version added fixed texture character portraits at the character select screen in order to speed up loading so each characters' costume didn't preview like in the arcade build, this change is not yet present in this demo build (you can switch the character previews on like the arcade version in the final build however).

Hmmm... I'm noticing some beta subtitles:

Final Zack: "I dig ma-self for being ma-self!" and

Are there other codes you can see in DOA++? Curious. I know there's a way to have an all Danger Zone stage render, but not sure what causes it. In 1U you had to hold all buttons (H, P, and K) after selection until match start to get the all danger zone floor for the match. Unfortunately that's not the case in ++.

That's right. Enter the code on when finishing the game, Raidou will be unlocked. In 1U, Raidou will be unlocked by completing Arcade Mode in default settings with all of the characters.

DOA1 on Playstation has a bunch of character names in blank, the cut characters have been blanked out, and I presume Bass and Ayane took two slots.



This is from the DOA2 executeable but it appears to have some leftover character names (I think). B-Belt, Harumage, Den, Nabe, Siawase, Zeek, Akagi, X-Ray, Jasmine, Dora, Mig. "Siawase" is the code/password to unlock Raidou leftover from DOA++ per Sorwah and I think the other names here might be Japanese DOA players' names/aliases from the default scoreboards.

Even though the demo disc came with the May 2000 issue, the disc has a build date of 2000-02-16, however, I'm not sure of the DOA2 demo's build date but it does seem like a WIP port of the arcade version. DOA2 released in the US on 2000-03-14 with a build date of 2000-03-06. This demo's build date is 2001-01-07, a full two months earlier than the final build and even pre-date's Millennium Edition's release date of 2000-01-18.

The demo build has a unique attract screen that's almost identical to the original Rev A arcade release (camera flythrough of stages) but adds different characters' lines each time you get to the title screen (the other arcade and home versions had a single line uttered by Kasumi) and it also adds the auto-demo from the other arcade versions but not the intro that was already present in Rev B or Millennium.

There's also missing sound effects and one minor texture change on a stage. The Tengu-boss stage is actually playable in both the auto-demo and for the player! This level was not playable for normal characters (outside story mode battles set there) until the F2P 2008 Chinese-only PC release.

The DC version added fixed texture character portraits at the character select screen in order to speed up loading so each characters' costume didn't preview like in the arcade build, this change is not yet present in this demo build (you can switch the character previews on like the arcade version in the final build however).

Hmmm... I'm noticing some beta subtitles:

Final Zack: "I dig ma-self for being ma-self!" and

Emulation. I don't have any tools necessary to test on hardware... or the hardware. If someone wants to donate a DOA++ cabinet or any DOA cabinet I'll take it. ;P

Oh, this is something... I'm curious about Ryuhen Hua. I thought it was an another male name until double checking it and assumed that Gracie was the female... wow. It seemed for the entire development, only Kasumi stayed. Everyone else were renamed/redesigned.
