EVO 2013: DoA5 has a shot! But there's a catch...

evo.jpg

So the EVO 2013 lineup was announced just moments ago on Wakeup SRK, and it's the largest EVO roster in years. Dead or Alive 5, unfortunately, is not on the main roster. This is due in no small part to a lack of consistent offline support in comparison to other games. We've been on the upswing, especially after the solid showing at NEC, however we have a lot of building to do yet. This is something that we're still working hard on changing, but this is currently our reality.

Now, the title says we still have a shot, and we do, but that catch is really going to put us in a put up or shut up position like never before! The Player's Choice slot, EVO 2013's eighth title, goes to the community and game that donates the most money to a chosen charity. The other part was that the game had to receive more than 500 votes in the poll that ran on the EVO Facebook page, which we did pull off. As of this writing, the donation page (link at the top) states we have 21 days to donate as much as we can, or til the end of January.

This is a chance for the entire DoA community to back our game. Online players, offline players, stream monsters, EVERYONE has an equal opportunity to help out the community. If you can't travel, toss a few bucks at the donation. If you prefer online play for any reason, donate anyway. If you do travel, definitely donate. Everyone should be donating as much as they can so that we can get our game back on the EVO main stage. Even if that doesn't happen, your money still goes to charity.

So DoA community: FSD members and DoAWorld members, online and offline players, casuals and pros...the time to step up or stay off to the side is coming!

if we dont do this plan im donating $0. If we do this plan ill donate $600 and possibly $800

(i dont even plan on going to evo bro, i just like winning)

Web Head, now isn't the time.

We'll railroad these mother fuckers down the line. Lets just get this shit to Evo and they can all be butt hurt when I'm standing on stage with 30 pounds of gold wrapped around my waist.

Just saw the news - I hadn't donated yet since I was split between this and CvS2, but now the situation is clearer, and DoA5 got my first $20.

I woldn't make much noise about donating strategies here though - Smash and SG folks might be lurking here for info on how to handle their own donation strategies (some of the more dedicated among you might want to reciprocate while you're at it), it may be best to stay silent about that sort of thing or restrict it to PMs.

The way I see it, the focus should be on beating SG for now - of the games doing best to far, it's the only other one that doesn't have hardware issues (the Melee folks will have to provide their own consoles, nothing else at EVO is running on their hardware) - hopefully donation efforts will last long enough that its public may rethink its priorities, since the SG project was made with Marvel and SF players in mind before SF4 and MvC3 were out, so its public might be more likely to focus on the more recent iterations of those games if the cost of entry seems too high to be worth it.

DoA brings something actually different to the EVO lineup, and personally that's what I intent to reward and encourage.

Keep up the good work!

I talked to those in my group who actually know what EVO is(8 out of the 10 I spoke too).So far I got about $15 total donated from 2 people. The others are saying they are broke even though one. of them just walked up in my house with 6 pack of wine coolers.

I might charge a 3 dollar entry fee at my next get together.I'll ju st let them know its just a breast cancer donation.

You're like my favorite troll of all time Web Head - you know that right?

For the first time in about 6 years. . .yeah, I'm actually proud to be a part of this community.

But

I still hate every single one of you and I'm the best player in this entire community.
Awww, we hate you too ^_^ (joking).

Sounds like it's up to you to make sure they donate. :)

LOL.Why you trolling me Mr Wah? I'm doing my best. So far I got $20 from my friends that came over tonight. I already sent my donation. I'm having a get together this Wednesday so I might be able to get more.

I'm kind of disappointed that yesterday when I made my donation we were around 1200 and today we are only at 1300. Skullgirls didn't reach 3000$ because someone made a big donation. It reached 3000$ because a lot of people made small donations. That's all it takes. If a small donation was made for every post on this thread we'd already be there. But it seems there are more people bitching than donating.

Skullgirls is closing in on MLP. It looks like Brony's may be supporting ever since Mike_Z showed Mane 6 some respect and the latter also mentioned that they liked Skullgirls.

That said, I'd like to at least see DOA5 threaten Melee in the standings.

The power of internet trolls with money is scary.I watched MLP and the show is alright but not that great. Half of MLP fans are genuine fans the other half are just internet trolls creating a movement around the show. The more people talked shit about guys liking the show, more people became Brony's just to troll and support those who are true fans.

Brony's then started a movement to recruit more people to the herd(pun intended). The majority of the Brony's in my area are made up mostly male geeks, anime fans and Magic players. In my opinion the MLP game shouldn't have even been on the list. But the guy who created the whole donate for a spot at EVO was smart by putting it on the list. The Brony movement is real people!!!Be afraid.

I think the SkullGirl fans just want to win for bragging rights and to get the game to EVO to get more support. SkullGirls got a lot of hype and sold well. But the FGC didn't fully support it.So a lot of its hype died.

SG for sure doesn't deserve a spot. It's crippled on one platform from receiving a patch update (which should make the EVO people question its viability as a game people can practice for) and hasn't been supported at events.

DOA is a real up and comer if its NEC showing is anything to go by - hopefully its SCR showing will be strong to solidify the momentum. Not to mention the exposure from IPL events, it will be a game with a strong competitive audience come EVO. (and yet they select P4A which had lower NEC showing and is "on notice" according to Mr Wizard)

Idea: Someone take a collection bucket for DOA at EVO around at Socal regionals. Every DOA5 entrant required to put in $5.

Will be guaranteed to work if the bucket holder is in cosplay.

I'll ask Accurate if we wants to cosplay as Tekkens Bob - he can go around with a bucket screaming "I can't see muh PEEEEEENIS! Wheres muh PEEEEEENIS!? Wheres muh PEEEEEENIS!?"

I think I good idea is to have someone who is going to SCRegionals to post the link to Emp. Cow's tutorial series on the facebook. Let people know that big names in the fight game community are supporting the game and show them how much depth there is at the same time (Mention Ryan Hart, PL and Wong. . .Kayane may be a nice looking young woman but shes not a star just because YOUR penis says so.)

I did the same thing for CEO winterfest - not saying that people are liking the comment left and right but CEO is smaller (250 or less) than SCR - so maybe you'll convert a few.
