I'd rather have DOA Xtreme Beach Basketball. 3 on 3 with NBA Jam-like controls. Rachel would be my center, Ayane my point guard, Tina my small forward. Guys could be chosen for coaches and team buffs. Bass for defense, Ryu for movement and fundamentals, and Leon for strong offense.
It's no surprise if it does happen. The Tecmo of old had their share of experience with licensed basketball videogames (Tecmo Super NBA Basketball, anyone?).

Also, don't forget Jim Ross as in-game commentator... or maybe they should save him for DOA6.

Updating floor textures must have been hard. At least the entire game will be better for that new breast bouncing engine.

Where did you guys get that the characters will be chess pieces? I mean a side game where they walk into some area and they just happen to find a Chess box and start playing.

If anything, I do prefer to have pool and bowling. Even poker.

Pool and bowling are a great idea. Also why not surfing? They've got an ocean why not use it? XD You could earn $$$ depending on how well your performance is and how many tricks you successfully execute.

I totally agree with this, excellent stuff David Gregg. Maybe expanding the areas for more social activity and games? This can be grand and I would totally dig into it.

EDIT: Crap, I just went off topic with you all. Apologies aha.

Lol. It's TN. Chess + "Soft Engine" can only go 1 way.

Agreed. Poker would be pretty awesome.

DOA could have taken the easy way out and just cut out fan service completely, but I'm glad it didn't. So what if female characters have big breasts and some revealing costumes? This game gets flack because it blurs the line between a casual fighter and a competitive one. Both sides can enjoy the game for what it is, but the primary focus of DOA is always going to be a fighting game. Casuals can choose sexy, revealing costumes while mashing buttons and doing cool looking shit, while competitive players actually study the game's mechanics, attend tournaments, while also using revealing costumes and showing people that the game can be competitive. Different strokes for different folks.
Nobody has a problem with "big breasts and some revealing costumes". DOA always had that.

The issue has become "DOA is nothing big big breasts and all the costumes are super revealing"

They need to tone it back to a few bikinis alongside more real costumes.

not like 12 bikinis, and then some stripper ribbons and 18 copy paste generic fetish outfits, but only like 1/3 of a girls outfits are real costumes.

That's not "some" revealing outfits.

And all the advertising and "promotional vids" and "Feature trailers" for DOA has become "Loookitdaboobiesloookitdaboobiesloookitdaboobies!", to the extent that's what they made their last two characters around.

You can't seriously be pretending that things haven't gotten out of hand, here.
Pool sounds more in line with what's already at the casino.

The other two? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... they should polish up the volleyball and jetski gameplay first. They had one too many side games up the ass as it is.
I'll be honest, I only ever played the jetski game, lol. The rest was near unresponsive.

Seriously though, I'd like it if you could manually control the girls and actually roam and explore the island. That'd be cool.

But seriously fuck this soft skin engine, whats the point, I don't even see a difference lol.

The difference would be best seen on a 4K TV... but I digress.
Incorrect. A 1080p display would still be the only way to notice any real difference. You can upscale to 4K but the detail is rendered by the engine at 1080p and won't go higher on consoles. You're really not doing yourself any favors there. On PC, on the other hand, there may very well be a difference. We'll see in a month and a half.

That is a pretty long fucking interview about tits. Tits are great and all but they certainly don't warrant an entire conversation.

Pretty clear that I am no Puritan but this...not going to lie, is rather obnoxious. The soft engine is a great improvement, yes, but it shouldn't be a fucking sales pitch. It should be considered an improvement in technology that is inherent with a new generation of consoles, no different from shadow/lighting/texture improvements.

I love the sexuality in DOA but interviews like this seem like hilariously juvenile. You can be entertained by DOA's aesthetic in a mature way, certainly, and not act like a bunch of kids who stumbled into an adult section of a video store.

I wish they'd stop letting Hayashi do interviews, and have someone like Tom do them all so we don't just get this constant "lookitdaboobies" crap.

...and before too many people agree with me, I'd like to clear up my position: the tits, costumes, beach videos, and overall sexuality of DOA are NOT the problem.

The problem is that, patrons of an M rated game - adults, as one would assume - that lack the maturity necessary.

Eh, as has been mentioned, it's an unfortunate case of a culture clash being at work here. I.e. the East & the West focus on different things when it comes to gaming. Hell, DOA isn't even that bad compared to some other Japanese games *coughssenrankaguracoughs*. The Japanese are cool with sexuality and don't find that much problem with it compared to the US, for example, whom get kinda anal about it. Whereas it's the opposite with respect to brutal violence on display in a game.

The overall sexuality in DOA isn't the problem but it does contribute to the problem of the stigma of DOA being tits over substance. Anyone that understands how DOA5U's mechanics work know that the game is solid and is legit as a serious fighter. However, the over focus on tits does turn off potential DOA fans, especially in the West. IMHO, DOA shouldn't be doing anything to turn off potential players of the series.

I second that, @SilverForte, but I don't agree with it being a relaxing game if you were doing the outfit collecting. Hope to see another, better DOAX. Then NG4, then DOA6. :p
I agree with you if and ONLY if men get to be in DOAXB. I know I'm grasping at straws but if I have to endure another Xtreme title I best be seeing some of the most eligible bachelors from the DOA cast in compromising positions. I don't even care how absurd.

Haha I digress. It's not that big a deal; as long as they release NG4 eventually and then DOA6 I could care less if they release DOA vs EA Sports lol.

I thought this was a funny read.

Potential fans can be turned off by anything, & in turn gaining certain other fans. It the basic idea of opportunity cost. You can't please everyone & they are blatantly marketing to specific demographics, not all demographics.

But that isn't what irritates me. I think if players are too feckless to not be able to look past the aesthetics, then I do not care for them. What does irritate me is just the basic immaturity of human beings in regards to our own human nature.

If you are talking of Hayashi here, personally I don't think that interviews as these show something of his opinions as persona. He is just trying to sell a product promoting its sexual features to the people interested of (and such feats were created because there are people interested to), this doesn't mean that to notice the bouncing is also his priority when, for example, he see a real woman XD

This would be how to say that who sponsor a bad product is stupid because unable to see when something is of quality or less: in the end he is just doing part of his work, without that this can say to us anything in regard to what he could really think about it.

I think Rev's point is that it's sad that people can be so shallow, and immature to get caught up with something as mundane and harmless as women's breasts, when in the case of DOA, there's actually a really deep and complex game that should be the focus of attention.

With reference to human adults, regardless of culture, surely we should be able to treat women's breasts with certain level of maturity without getting, squeamish, giddy or anal about it.

Ha.

Most costumes are designed by the female staff.

Take that, haters.
*cough* :2:
Ah the old "women designed this so it's okay if it shows skin" excuse... I've heard it used for Bayonetta and bikini ZSS. But they neglect to say the art director is usually male, and the ultimate voice of what goes into the game.

Don't get me wrong I have no problem with skin showing, it's just a lame excuse.

Art Director: Yutaka Saito (male)
Character Art Leads: Hirohisa Kaneko (male), Haruhiko Shikata (male)

Now, Hayashi did say that some of the women-designed outfits surprised even some of the male staff. But without more details, I wouldn't quite take a victory lap.
