Helena in DOA5U

Nothing was guaranteed that's true but Helena had enough frame advantage back then that she could do anything she wanted whereas now if the opponent mashes on 6P they can beat out most of her options if she doesn't go for her fastest pokes.

In DOA4 I think I counted about 40 something guaranteed force tech's with Helena. As long as you knew which launcher you had used and which weight class you were juggling you could guarantee force tech from any launcher. Something like 9K on CH on a lightweight character then do 8P > BKO 4PK > 2K (that's just an example I don't think that is an actual one, I can't really remember any of them now). That took serious work and skill to land as each one was almost character specific, now it's just launch 33P4P > 6P on everything.

Losing her BKO throw FT was a good trade for getting her PFT on every launch. Still though her FT game was far superior in DOA4 in every respect. It's just that you had to be really good to do it back then whereas now anyone can do it with no real practice.

A lot of Helena's set ups in DOA4 required a bigger damage sacrifice. You have to remember that attacks and combos did not do much damage in 4. So Helena's PFT allows her to open up the stun game into more damage in DOA5.

I believe whn you consider both systems DOA5 PFT is the superior tech.

DOA4
Pro's:
  • Guaranteed Force Tech's
  • At least +30 from Force Tech's
  • SWAG
Con's:
  • Damage sacrifice
  • Very tough to memorize every combo for each character/weight class/launcher/hit state
DOA5
Pro's
  • Easy to do
  • Minimal damage sacrifice
Con's:
  • Force Tech's not guaranteed
  • Only +4 from PFT
  • NO SWAG
I'd rather sacrifice a bit of damage for more frame advantage. I think I just miss the challenge. Nothing more fun than playing against other Helena players who thought thy were the shit and putting them into guaranteed set ups that they couldn't figure out even from watching you.

Each to their own though.

8PP was a great move. RIP..
watching DOA4 Helena compared to DOA5 Helena is a more complex experience. she looked so damn interesting back then now it's all this handslap bs pasted on the end of her moves.. idk I still like her though.

onto DOA5U I guess.. that new spider kick after that chop slap thingy is DOPEE

I've decided to compile the new costumes Helena is getting in DOA5U.
New DOA5U Helena Costumes.png

Now, the two original costumes are nice, but Team Ninja could do a lot better. I think I speak for most Helena players when I say these are the costumes that we want.

And finally, this is what we need.

That 2nd one has sunglasses and a cop hat? Hnnng...

We don't know all the costumes coming. I still think they'll add the genie costume.

Hate her dress though.

I don't want any of those costumes, except for the red shoulder pad one. It bewilders me that they have yet to bring back the red color swap for her 2nd costume in DOA5.

They did give her a new pirate looking costume in dimensions that I want to see make a return.

Well I'm not a Helena player but I can honestly say I would not want to fight a Helena wearing any of those costumes except the ones they already brought back and this one:

http://images.wikia.com/deadoralive/images/2/2e/HelenaDOA4C4.jpg

On another note, I want to see aerial ground bounces from BT 4pk and I guess a few other moves to increase her juggle damage. I guess it'll be in order since they're taking out the PFT and guaranteed forced techs?

I suppose the hand slaps could "double bound" in a juggle so that she could continue somewhat as well. Another relaunch I could see is the one from DOA4 where her 2h+k (or 6kk/bko 6kk etc.) in combos. It looked really nice a beautiful and that's one thing I like about fighting Helena. If I'm going down, It's gotta at least look graceful for me to accept my defeat to her (the handslaps in juggles made that happen for me).

What do you guys think about this?

1st Batch of costumes: I only like the long gloves on her idol costume, I find her DOATEC cop uniform ill-fitting (and no, not even some black lace to the cleavage is going to fix things). Her seashells out-chic Christie, Tina and Lisa's legendaries and its recolors making her the Queen of the Legendaries and her reversed bunny fits her more than the black one.

2nd Batch of costumes: Love the Arabian dancer costume since it matches with Leon's Aladdin costume, same goes for the Greek goddess dress with Leon's gladiator costume (they should really have a tag intro/throw/ending together), it would be nice to see her DOA2 blue opera dress provided that they give her a white lace variant for her bow. Her DOA4 red opera jacket is also nice too since the black bow will match the pants.

And of course, all I ever wanted was to have that white opera dress be a playable costume.

Apart from most of the costumes above, I want these to return:

DOAUhelena_cos03.jpg

^ It's the only costume you'll ever see her in a knotted crop top.

DOAUhelena_cos05.jpg

^ Lets be honest, other than her white blouse and black slacks, she lacks casual clothes in general so why not have her in this one?

DOAUhelena_cos09.jpg

^ Another casual option but it could have been better if they either: a) Removes the socks or b) change the sandals into brown leather loafers or brogue shoes.

Untitled_1.2.png

^ The red ribbon sash got me sold. It reminded me of Prince William's wedding outfit because of it - http://blog.zap2it.com/pop2it/prince-william-harry-royal-wedding-uniforms.jpg

Untitled_1.4.png

^ The only short dress she has ever worn and I love the floral one-strap.

It would also be nice if they could make a costume where they can equip her mother's locket (or attached it on any of her existing costumes and release it as DLC):

Hey guys. I'm going to Summer Jam, and there'll be a DOA5U demo there. I'll be covering Helena. Do you guys want me to test anything specific? I'll be recording everything too.

Thank you Ninja Guy. I do have a couple requests if you wouldn't mind.

(1) Try and go into sparring, and switch the recovery option to "on" and test to see if 33p4p still connects at the end of a juggle. They nerfed that move in an update for the Playstation if you remember, and then they fixed it again. Then set the recovery option to "off" and see if Helena's 6p and 1k from bokuho still force tech

(2) See how many frames Helena's new sit down stun is. Also, set the stun recovery to fastest, and see how many frames of advantage she has if the computer slow escapes as fast as possible.

(3) Check to see if Helena's 66k from back facing is still +0 frames on block.

If you could do that, that would be great. Thank you!

Most of the time I am not one for super casual comments but damn. The cop outfit is beyond rad. David Coverdale doesn't stand a chance with the new sex police. 80s yo. Yeah, I liked the napoleon-esqe suit too. Would be cool to see it again but doubt it.

I gotta admit I didn't have to much fun with Doa 5 Helena even though I spent so much getting her down in Doad So i could use her in 5. From Doa4 to Doad she was kinda dumbed down. It felt like she got even easier to play along with Christie. Not that it is a bad thing. It just is weird they were always tough characters for me to get a handle on. Just gonna say I hope she has something that makes her fun to play for me. Whatever that is.

Like Hajin said seeing if 33P4P works as a PFT is pretty important, if not does BT 4PK or 66K work?

Are her 3in1's still -4 on block?

Are her old sit down stuns still +15 on fastest SE or are they viable now? Is her BT 7P still +13 guaranteeing nothing?

Did they finally give her an i10 jab?

Has PP2K reverted back to DOA4 with PP2KP?

If you can figure out these things I'd appreciate the input. I doubt you will be able to do sparring though as most demo's are only set up for versus.

Definitely will be able to do the first one. :)

I'll check this if they have sparring.

Same as above.

I'll check for BT 4PK and BT 66K too.

If they have training mode, I'll check if they're -4 still.

Same thing.

Same. But is there anyway I can check to see if this move is i10 without training mode? Like should I put Helena against someone who has an i11 jab and see if she beats them? Or against someone with an i10 jab and see if they clash?

Definitely will be checking this. I'll be scrolling through Helena's movelist so we can see what she's got. I'll also be checking the moves out on footage.

Hopefully, sparring will be available and I'll be able to check this stuff out. :D

If sparring isn't available you can still use the attack info box on normal offline versus. Perhaps you could check frames that way?

Oh, you're right! I should be able to do that. That's actually really smart lol.

I probably won't be able to stagger escape the sitdown stuns if there's no sparring, but I'll ask someone to stagger escape as fast as they can.

Only a certain amount of frames can be staggered so find out their frames without staggering and I'm sure we can work it out.
