It's inanely amusing how every complaint in that tiny ass 6 page thread applies more to DOA5 than they do to DOA4.

More specifically, your complaints.

First and foremost, DOA4 was the next logical step from Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate in terms of game play options. The game was updated and improved, they just didn't fucking change things around for no reason like they did in DOA5.

DOA5 is a complete step backwards from anything DOA. It's like some mad doctor butchered Tekken and Virtua Fighter and built some fuckin' Frankenstein out of the pieces. 99% of your post in that thread relates to problems of Dead or Alive 5, and not problems of Dead or Alive 4 - which is really odd unless you're some kind of psychic.

Dead or Alive 5 has more graphical, engineering, balance, and glitch issues than every other DOA game combined.
Team Ninja wasted an incredible amount of time creating a new engine rather than improving upon the DOA4 engine, and that seems to be the source of all the problems as well as the reason why the game feels so rushed and unfinished. Maybe the DOA4 engine had some limitations, who knows - but stupidly enough it was exponentially better than the new DOA5 engine. DOA5's existence just doesn't even make sense because it's so bad.

I'm not hating on DOA5 okay, don't get me wrong.
I'm hating the fact that it isn't a good game, nor is it better than DOA4.

I happen to like DOA4 and I know that you don't, but the fact that it isn't better than DOA4 should mean the same thing.

I've already dealt with the horrible feelings and disappointment. I suggest you grow up and deal with it as well.
There's no reason on earth Team Ninja should be proud of releasing DOA5 in the state it was, unless Shimbori or Hayashi have terminal cancer and it was their make-a-wish or something.

In fact, DOA5 is so backwards that it's literally 180° the wrong direction. It's inverted.
And what happens when you invert the Dead or Alive 5 logo?

You get a dream come true.
You like doa4 good for you but a lot of people think doa4 is a laughing stock. Doa4 was my first doa game, my friends who love playing fighters have told me to stay away from doa4 and just play something else. I did not think it would be that bad so I got the game and I played it and boy was I wrong, Its no way shape or form is doa4 a competitive game at least in my eyes but you and others may think its competitive but I respect that but I disagree that its competitive nor do I think doa5 was a step down it not perfect but I think its a big improvement from doa4 which is to saying much though since you have to really have to screw up to make a game thats even more terrible then doa4.

Regardless, I'm finding it hard to believe you would actually think DOA4 was a bad game, especially when you don't provide any examples to compare it to. Remember, this is a DOA fan site, not a DOA bashing site.

Lol. Shutup, accept what we've been given, and if you have issues with the game, don't post them on the site the developers claim to read.

No hypocrisy here.

More like don't post it, because you're wasting your time and we did everything humanly possible to try and get them to adjust some things, but they wouldn't budge.

I can understand that, the only reason I brought this up is because Team Ninja can still adjust some things now. Before the line of communication was not there, now it is.

But at the same time many players feel this mechanic is just fine as it is, so I guess Team Ninja has to cater to all its fans, even the ones that don't really know how to play the game.

Things always get bad when people start insulting each others character; that's a community problem, and not this superimposed discussion. If anything, that's what drives newcomers (and or/ established fans of DOA) off. Discussion is healthy. It often leads to different perspectives and broadens ones own. Insulting/attacking does not as it bears no substance aside from ego-pushing and plateaus the growth of any community.

I don't think you know what the OP's problem is at all. Good luck doing any of that while still recovering from your attack that whiffed because of a low hold that was thrown out randomly in stun and recovers before you do. Low holds shouldn't be that effective.

And if you're getting a free power blow off of someone doing a low hold then you are fighting some really terrible players. Who the hell holds low when at neutral from most likely mid range? Even more so if you're stupid enough to charge one point blank at neutral. And you're certainly not going to get one done during a stun as they will recover first.
No I get what he was saying. I was setting up "It's not guessing when you realize you have options".

When you start an offense up you are making a commitment. You have to realize that if you going to use high attacks then you are more likely to lose it because of the low counters. It's part of the commitment. Most of the time, your better options are mid attack.

Apart from that, with the power blows. I'm not. I pull it of during a stun and it has be set up via mind games. You can hit people in the counter recovery if they try to be cute and counter it. For when they don't counter, they don't know when I'm going to release a power blow, or even if I am.

I'm not pulling it out of my ass any old time (though thats how I came across the idea, and many others), you have to use attacks with good stuns. Say they do slow escape, 20-25 frames have gone and they have 13-18 frames to do something. If they a throw, you just sacrifice damage and release it, same with if they counter early. Combine that with the things I already stated; see how it may be a win/win yet?

Also take note that everything you land after you hit them has increased damaged to it, including the hits in the juggle.

Directed to whoever gets offended.

I want that chance to be something more guaranteed.
A chance to be more punishable, I can agree with that.

Are you aware that Team Ninja went through a radical restructuring in 2008? That development studio barely exists as a fraction of what it once was. DOA5 is just another NG3. You should acknowledge that so you can tell the difference and give credit and criticism where they're due.

You like doa4 good for you but a lot of people think doa4 is a laughing stock. To put it nicely, you and your friends are scrubs, and are likely buying into the socially engineered hype of IGN. Hell, even Famitsu was bought out in this regard, giving the game 9/9/9/9 or 36/40.
Tecmo spent a lot of money to make it seem like the game is good.

When someone gives you shit, you don't ask for more.
If DOA4 was shit, it would have been shit, and would have died. Instead, it lived for 7+ years and inspired concepts in most of the big-name fighting game series.
It's not debatable that Dead or Alive 4 was a supremely crafted and well regarded fighting game.
That is fact.

It is also not debatable that the aforementioned positive inspirations and long-lasting survival of DOA4 will not be shared by DOA5. Even if DOA5 received character DLC, costumes, balance patches, and removed all its glitches - It would still have the dumbest, least inspired, least inspiring story mode in a DOA game yet.

Word of mouth about DOA5's incompetency travels fast.

DOA5 is a buggy stupid fuckfest of a messy slop who's only redeeming feature is good graphics.
Beyond that, it is not only worse than DOA4 in nearly every regard as well as the worst DOA to date, but also worse than any fighting game released since Street Fighter II.

The best thing we can all hope for is acknowledging on a general acceptance that DOA5 could be exponentially better than it is, and request Team Ninja to make it as such. For if it was, it would actually have a chance of competing against games like Virtua Fighter 5FS, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and Soul Calibur 5.

By the way, getting back on topic. Low holds have no reason to not beat standing throws, because they're crouching. Low holds shouldn't recover faster than mid/high holds, however.

Thread closed. Discussion have strayed far away from its original intent. If you want to argue about hypocrisy do it through PM's. If you want to discuss why you believe Doa4 is a competitive fighter(while the rest of the FGC already have agreed upon it not being so), do it within the doa4 forums.
