I'm just disappointed that she can't actually play like a grappler with her command grabs is all. Kinda defeats the purpose of a command grab if its no good outside of comboing into it. May as well just be a regular combo animation.



That said vaguely interested in Torr. Played him at launch tourney and did well enough with him. REALLY hard to close distance though, and he has no armor so its hard to stay in close.

Waiting to try tremor and Goro.

Lol what are you talking about her low pounce is guaranteed blocking or not and everyone crouch blocks in this game

They have subtle differences to note te variation chosen. (ie: Ninjitsu Scorpion has swords on his back; Kitana has a blue glow when in Mournful variation obviously to denote the staff moves ala Jade)
But do the differences change based in costume, like Goro gaining a helmet or mileena taking off her mask, or other headgear?

Yes! I have played an unmasked Kitana and I think Mileena, too! I know you can play as unmasked Scorpion and Subzero. Costumes are for costumes; they have no affect on variation and vice-versa.

ie: I can still have Mileena in any costume regardless of variation - Mask on, Mask off. Btw, go into the Krypt to fully see the different costume variations. It's much simpler than picking through them before a fighter starts!

@Argentus Yup. I could have Jingu Kitana and use her mournful variation and she'll have jades staff and throwing blade with her or have Royal storm and instead of her hair chopsticks blue it's the mark on her head also if I use mileenas Kahnum alt I will still have pink surrounding my Sais when in piercing or no mask in ravenous or tattoos in ethereal same goes for every like Sonya she'll always have military makeup in her covert ops or goro with his helmet. All in all they all show even in alternative costumes.

I need a lot more lab time with Jacqui. I have no idea how to do these damn run combos. I hardly touch High Tech


honestly run combos won't be needed unless it's absolutely necessary, especially online. Just juggling them in the air is hard enough honestly. Also i'm switching to Kenshi, Takeda is too hard for me to learn the timing on him. And kenshi is a bad ass.

Lucky bastard, we have M2Dave he's a zonning zealot that fell in love with cybernetic Kano and everytime he speaks I have the strongest desire to punch him in the face.

For Jacqui, run combos are essential. She's one of the more difficult characters to learn because of it.

With commando it's pretty important as well as you need to combine Run cancels and Ball cancels. it's Kano's best way to get high dammage since he lacks cutthroat'so launchers.

I think it's just character/variation dependent. for example the teleporters don't really need to mess with it since they'll never be out of range.

Well if you like Kano you should listen to him, and i recommend CoachSteve also, Kano is potentially seen as a highly viable character this time.

Cassie has now won my attention with her brawler variation ... dropping kano as my main for her since her brawler style seems like a mix of kano's cutthroat and commando variation in one, she has great range, mix-ups, tons of launchers and overheads which kano completely lacks all while having good command throw pressure like his commando variation. she can end her combos with a command throw that leaves her opponents standing giving her a reset, one of the best overheads in the game that can cancel into her special launcher that requires no meter to do unlike kano's cutthroat launcher. Plus she has that johnny cage swagger to top it all off. the only drawback is you have to master run cancel combos with her since her special launcher knocks them far away when it connects

This is fine and all but I don't play Kano and Jacqui is pretty much the same across all variations. She has no teleports.

She has a zoning variation, a power up one, and a mid-range/mixup one. They change how she gets in on combos, but they don't change the fact she has to run to get that dmg.

What are the "no combo" characters/variations? In past mks I stuck to defensive and power characters for punishing because I'm just not a rush down player.

In mk9 I mostly tanked and punished with grapples as sheeva, or played defense with Sub Zero, or at most did hit and run with Mileena, bouncing all over the screen.

Trying Tor but I haven't settled on a variation yet. Trying Solo because I don't like Ferra. I'm hoping to master Ethereal to flicker all over the screen as Mileena. Hadn't tried anyone else yet.
