New Character Rig joins the Dead or Alive 5 Cast

It looks like Rig has finally been announced, and with it is a new trailer of him fighting Christie and Bass on an oil rig.

[medio]450[/medio]

Rig is a Tae Kwon Do user from Canada who apparently is working on an oil rig with Bass Armstrong of all people. Bass is also repairing his bike while in the middle of the ocean doing his job in the mean time. You even get to see a return of his DOA3.1/3.2 4F+P launching throw.

Apparently there's also some history with Rig and Christie. I'm sure we'll find out once the game hits store shelves on September 25th so be sure to pick up your copy at launch day.

Update: Koei-Tecmo has provided the following bio for Rig:

Rig
- A natural born fighter, he has used his powerful instincts to master of the art of taekwondo. He has run the oil rig from a young age, and his colleagues simply call him "Rig." But even he doesn't know his real name or where he comes from.

Fighting Style: He learned taekwondo on the oil rig, which led him to create his own style, with plenty of moves he came up with himself.

The stills for Bass and Rig are displayed below:

Actually even in the first image her face seems not as slim. Hope they didnt fix her old model. That model was perfect. The slim face fits her more.

I like Christie's English voice, but Bass' is awful to me. :(

Rig looks and sounds pretty typical. His voice is familiar...

I think I've heard Rigs voice somewhere in the Highlander anime... (cuz I saw that fairly recently) ... need to go back n check ...

on the other hand, Christie gained some pounds.. in the right places ;)

So I guess that "not remembering his real name" thing that I translated was correct from what I can gather from the conversation with Christie. He seems to have some memory loss of sort.

I'm guessing we might get a Flamingo tag team :p (Rig and Sarah)

Bass's Facial expressions are fucking incredible!!! especially near the end ! WOW

So, this leaves us with around 9 characters to go. and since the end of august tournaments in the US and London are promising near complete builds ... I'm hoping we're gonna see more and more info at a much faster pace now .. :D

I don't know if anyone pointed this out already but Rigs Powerblow is the first one we've seen that's a mid KICK instead of a mid punch ..

Oh no, not another Ein symptom..

My theory (again) : At the end of the Cold War, DOATEC (which is a US company because.. well.. Fame was American so...) tried to manipulated young Russian children to create soldiers (as you may know, Bayman's parents were killed). So Bayman's DNA was used to create a clone - Rig - which grew up in a US lab and was trained to learn TKD - which explains the fact he looks like Bayman in my opinion and the original "Canada/TKD" concept- and, when the war was over, there was no reason to keep him, and he was freed, his memory was cleaned (at the age of 18 maybe) and he landed up in Canada for some reasons. During 3 years, he worked in McDonalds, oil rigs, etc. and he never knew about his blood manipulation, his unknown brother Bayman or anything..
Knowing that Bayman is in war against DOATEC, Donovan remembers that old project and sends Christie to recruit him, in order to use him against his own brother during the "Oil War" (Bayman/DOATEC.. and the Ninjas). Which explain why she is trying to seduce him (or kill him, maybe he is dangerous)..

You're thinking too much ... and now my head hurts... lol

But cool theory :p

Come to think of it ...
You might be onto something.....
Either clones or Twins or some shit .. who knows...
Hell, even eventhubs fucked up and called the Bass fight a fight with Bayman...
If you showed me this pic before announcing Rig, I would have thought thie hoodie was a Bayman Alt as well.... Hmmmm

Now why cant they just clone Hayate and give us Ein ...? :p

I know you guys already put up this video, but MyKoeiTV on Youtube put up the official video now. I don't know if it makes a difference, but that video should be switched with this one if possible. The views should go to this video. But if not, then oh well :/

Here's the info from the video's info box:

I think they're just reusing the old animation in his charged up hcf throws, unless it's a combo throw now.

Also, very disappointed of the lack of 6K Ps.

Loving the english voice though.

  • Rig's voice sounds like Akihiko in Persona 3... Any RPG fans out there?
  • Given his storyline, I'm glad TN chose TKD and not Oil Wrestling!
  • About his Flamingo stance: Rig better have some of those Sarah-like 5-frame kicks, or else he's doomed... Especially if his flying kick (and probably other moves) end in a Flamingo stance... Hopefully that flying kick guardbreaks...

Me too. I just wonder if it on purpose or just laziness.. I mean, I'm not really complaining about his face, because I'm really excited about his fighting style, his relation with Christie and the rest, but.. his face is just so Bayman-esque. I really hope my theory is true...
