Ultimate Ninja is the highest difficulty, not Master Ninja. They added UN after MN for the last couple titles. If you honestly felt the game was difficult at the Hero level you weren't using SoB and OTs effectively and you probably stuck with the Dragon Sword or something. The game basically beats itself on Hero unless you're fighting against it. I've never played it myself but if it's even easier than Normal...
Yea, I just hung with the basic sword for the most part. I used the dual swords for a lil bit (bout 15 minutes, lol) and that was about it. I'll rephrase a lil since I see how my last post was misleading about me thinking Hero Mode was hard ^-^. Going through it, I just noticed I would have died a lot in many of the fights had it not been for the Hero Mode perk of not dying. Especially the boss fights, since I lost all my health early on in the fight. So I know on my Normal run, it's gon be hard for me to beat certain sections without dying. But at the same time, I'm a lot better than I was when I first started, hahah. But still..
But yeah, most mook encounters are just spamming Steel on Bone, which can be done with almost any weapon effectively (Lunar staff is an exception, with Scythe and Kusari-gama having the best). It might be the lack of items as "lifelines" throwing you off, if you're used to relying on those.
"NG2 had that XXYBY auto kill for basically all enemies."
Interesting. I found the most spammy, fuck-all moves in that game to be:
Falcon's Talons: ->AYXY
Lunar: XXY
Scythe: Jump XY
Ahh yea, those moves, lol. I remember seeing those videos. I was more of a DS guy and didn't resort to that stuff on MNM unless I absolutely had to. Which I never did, thankfully. Talk about boring.. Except for the dogs on Ch. 3, I did the Lunar thing doing the OL 180+Y and the 180+Y U/ET. I so didn't like that part, dam ninja dogs are ruthless. And the part where you had to fight like, 8 or whatever of those spider Retsu things. I lured em to that open area and spammed Lunar U/ET's on em. Just too many to fight em straight up, lol. And I definitely wasn't above going back and saving after every encounter, lol. But yea, with the DS, the XXYBY, OL any direction+X (where he does that roll) OL+X, and even counters were all good/had high de-limbing rate. So I mainly did a lot of that stuff instead. And I did do more U/ET spamming on MNM when I had the opportunity. I just wanted to finish it. My pride could wait till after I beat it, without making more invisible rules than I already had, lol. Was hard enough already.
But those moves you mentioned are definite spammable kill moves.
Just keep playing and you will get better and i suggest not spamming SoB if you want to improve your skills
I know a lot about how all the enemies work in this game but I suck at explaining lol D:
I suggest watching showr18s run!
lol, Yea, you can't really explain to someone how to be better at NG. You can say try this, or spam this against boss's. But it's mostly just a reaction game and adjust to the flow of the encounters.
And yea, constantly fishing for SoB all the time is no fun

. I'm sure (hope) I'll adjust/get better at playing this. I died a lot on Acolyte in NG2, and still managed to beat that one on MN. I like to use the easy modes to mess around and get better/familiar with using weapons. But man, the enemies (most of em) have a high amount of health on this game and take a while to delimb. Even a counter won't chop a leg off like it used to! Hahah.
I'll def check out showr18s stuff. I seen a few MN videos (no Ultimate Ninja ones yet) and it looks like spamming the Scythe's 180+Y move will be something I adopt for boss fights, lol. We'll see.
