Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge General Discussion

Question: What're some of Ayane's better attack strings (or her best strings period) that I should be using? For crowd control, small areas, larger enemies, and bosses?

I want to get pretty good at Razor's Edge and start trying to play harder difficulties once I'm more comfortable playing the game. I gotta be the Hajinmon Representative in this game too. ;)

Any general tips about Razor's Edge are welcome too.

Spin the joystick around in circles and mash the Y button with the scythe.

Oh, wait, you're not using the scythe. In that case, SoB everything, everywhere, everytime.

Umm, what is S and T?
He plays on Playstation, so S=X, T=Y

And what is SoB?
SoB = Steal on Bone, its when you press triangle on enemies who glow red, its noob move
It's OP nature may make it seem that way, but it's actually your best option in most situations. Gives you iframes up the wazoo, lets you instant-kill tougher enemies nearby after insta-killing easier enemies with a predictable counter first, it recharges your health, gives you the second fastest ninpo-gain rate (aside from obliteration techniques, ie: cutting off a limb and finishing them with the Y button), and it gives you the most karma per kill while amplifying your karma multiplier rapidly without fail.

These reasons make it pretty stupid to take out SoB-able enemies in any other fashion.

Unless you're getting bored being a redundant twat (which you will) and just want to change things up to keep a hold of your sanity.

Ooooh, I'm on 360 so maybe that's why I'm confused lol.

So;

- 360X -> X
- XXYYYY
- XXY - Repush LB (guard) - Hold Y (release)
- YY Hold Y (release)

??

Whoops, yeah I mean Y. xD

The SoB red glow I'll need to get used to seeing from smaller enemies (ninjas/soldiers) more often because I'm not used to that (coming from Sigma 2+ being the last Ninja gaiden I've played). Still Izuna dropping them for the most part lol.

How do you unlock Kasumi by the way? Also I've mainly been using Dual Katana with Hayabusa. Is it worth using often? People keep telling me to just use the Scythe.

Well if you wan't to get good at the game avoid the Scythe because its broken and overpowered

Kasumi you unlock through chapter challenge I think, I forget

Yeah, the SoB mechanic really takes over as the BnB approach to your average fight. Personally, I'm not a fan, but it is what it is.

Scythe is the most braindead easy-mode due to the 360-Y attack being a spammable iframe high-damage keepout tool that works on almost every regular enemy and boss enemy. Aside from that move it's useful, but you'll find it weaker than its NG2 iteration.
Personally I don't use it much since it's sorta boring in OP mode and lacklust outside it (whereas in NG2 I used it all the time)

Personally, I don't use the dual swords much as I've just never been a huge fan of them (even in NG2 where they were very powerful). gill would be able to go over them better than I could. It's ultimate technique (charge Y) is very effective against alchemists.

The Kusari-gama got MUCH more powerful in RE. The demon cutter (X->holdY) allows you to snag off a limb of a far-away mook instantly by reeling them in. Limbless enemies are more prone to attack grabs, allowing you to fish out SoB's much easier. Additionally, its SoB technique actually has him using the demon cutter move, so it can keep the SoB combo chain going even if no enemies are in your immediate vicinity.

Falcon's Talons are different now, as they function more like the Tonfas in NG2 (they inherited the dash-cancels the tonfas had). They lost their most powerful moves from NG2, though, such as the flying swallow izuna (the old ->Jump YXY).

Lunar has a lot of iframes but it's SoB is extremely retarded (doesn't even kill one enemy a lot of the time). As such, I rarely use it.

Sword is... well it's still basically the sword. A little wonkier than the solid NG2 iteration, but still your most balanced weapon.

How do you unlock Kasumi by the way?
I think you just have to beat the story mode once.
Or maybe it was Chapter Challenge...

Welp, finally beat story mode yesterday so I'm playing chapter challenge with Ayane for awhile to hone myself before I play through story again on Master Ninja (so I can unlock more difficulties for Chapter Challenge).

A couple of grips with Razor's Edge;

- Boss fights feel so tedious in this game, most felt like I was playing Sonic Adventure 2 at times (basically it doesn't feel like Ninja gaiden during boss fights) with how often I'm fighting giant machines shooting 100 missles every 2 seconds.

- SoB: Admittedly, I like this new feature (for the moment) but only because it feels satisfying to time it out correctly. But I'm certain this feat is what makes the combat feel repetitive, so I'm sure I'll start to see that as I keep playing this game (and I will be).

All in all though, I really do like the game, mostly because I am able to play my favorite character in it on any stage as much as I want to.

Boss fights are kinda a low point in the series, ng2 had it the worst. I do have to say ngds has fantastic boss fights, but no one played that one.

I actually really liked the boss fights in Ninja Gaiden: Black for the most part. Some of my favorite game boss fights.

NG2's were horrible though, and that's being generous.

Allow me to reiterate: Razor's Edge has the most distasteful boss fights I've experienced in the series so far. But that's my own personal opinion. I mean, I think the boss fights in Ninja gaiden 1 (or Black/Sigma) are a lot better. I actually don't mind the boss fights versus the fiends. The machines and robots with missles everywhere are just super tedious and dumb to see.

And if it means anything, I still believe the original Ninja gaiden series on NES is the best. But that's because I'm old school like that.
