Ninja Gaiden Thread

Does anyone still have this for 360?

Yep. I had both, but when I lent my copy of NG2:S, the guy sold his PS3 and my copy of the game. Insert curse word here.

I still have NG2 on the 360. While the PS3 remake sorted out a few issues, I find NG2 on 360 the purer experience. Even with all the erratic cheapness, man do you feel like the biggest badass after decimating an entire mob all by yourself. Part of it is to do with the presentation, while the other part is the slight differences in mission design (there's a level where entire mobs are removed from the game).

I don't have time to try master the game anymore, but I want to take it out one holiday and go through it again.

NG2 gameplay is fucking sick and pacing is extremely exciting
Sadly, TN remove the amazing brutalness of REAL blood & guts and gave us PS3 owners a censored version of NG2, add new features but they're pretty cool, add the word"Sigma" in it, less enemies & replaced the blood with purple mist...PURPLE MIST?
really TN? Are you fucking retarded!?! I know Itagki wouldn't allowed this Bullshit to happen.

So... The hardest level available by default in NGS2 for PS3 is still easier than the hardest level available by default in X360?

Not exactly due to the inclusion of the girls. If you have trouble adjusting then Sigma 2 is slightly harder. NG2 in all iterations is easier than the first game, though. Black especially.

I always found NGS2 harder than the first game for some reason. Probably on my account of my poor decision making when it comes down to buffing up abilities of a specific weapon without much mind to everything else.

I never really liked the girls. It was actually because of the Sigma additions that I feared the worst for Team Ninja after Itagaki and the senior team left. Luckily the Sigmas and NG3 weren't an indication of how DOA 5 would turn out.

As for Black being harder than NG2, it's pretty true, even with the super cheap A.I. I like to think it's due to the absolutely unrealized potential of NG2's fantastic combat system. 'Til this day an action game has yet to outdo NG2 in that area.

NGS was actually a pretty phenomenal game, weird loading issues aside. The Vita version blew just because of the forced gimmick controls for the bow (made the military base a nightmare for the wrong reasons). Sigma 2 was solid as well, though I was not a fan of some of the changes. Black was harder than NG2 solely based on superior AI. They cranked up the Shit Happening Quotient to ridiculous levels in NG2 but forgot to make the enemies intelligent enough to pose a threat on their own. That and Black's Gates of Hell on MN was a fucking joy to play for some of us and impossible to beat for others. Awesome design there.

I do agree that NG2 had a phenomenally fun design to its combat, for sure. It felt fast, brutal, and responsive, with the exception of the ridiculous block stun mechanic that the player has to put up with as well as being juggled occasionally with no way to save yourself.

I'm thinking about purchasing NGS2 but I don't know if it's good or not?

It's worth it, though if you have a Vita just wait til next month and get NGS2+.

A friend of mine that has a Vita told me about the new arrow mechanic in NGS+ but he switched to be handled like PS3. Search for the option. Also, did that game got a bullseye while using the arrow?

I felt any merits of NGS were based on the original and the Black expansion, but I did not like the SIXAXIS gimmick, nor the mandatory Rachel levels or the additional boss/enemies put in the game. It's not that they were bad per se, but we're dealing with what essentially is the greatest action game of all time. Anything less than the best-ever sticks out like a sore thumb.

I just realized my original reply made it sound like I thought NGB had cheap A.I, but I meant to say that NG2 had cheap A.I, which is where most of its frustrating difficulty comes from. Speaking of A.I, NGS's enemies act a little differently to the NG/B A.I. Hayashi claimed that it's tweaked, but to me it feels more like they couldn't port the code line-for-line over to the Sigma engine. It first hit me when I came to the first Alma fight, like the rhythm was off and the attacks weren't swarming me as viciously as they did in Black. Really weird feeling, and I think it's the small details like that which compelled Itagaki to say what he said about Sigma.

Bloody shame that he and Tecmo had the problems they did, coz it's not that hard to see it affected Ninja Gaiden 2. From Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword to DOA Xtreme 2, dude spit and polished everything to a tee.

Lol the NG series is a sore spot for me because of NG2. I'm always preoccupied with its 'what-if' scenario. Could have just been one of the best games ever period.

Wonder if Devil's Third will come out this year actually, considering THQ went under.

I found NGS so what harder than NGB but at the same time, it's much easier o_O

Edit: I'm definitely getting NGS2 :) Totally forgot about the game.

At the very least at launch that did not work. You had to touch the screen to cancel aim mode and couldn't just dodge out of it. If you accidentally hit the screen it was at least going to get you hit. Might have been patched but the motion and touch stuff didn't get turned off, it just added the ability to use the sticks.

To clarify, I am referring to the option to enable button controls. I did find it immediately, it just behaved as described above.

Personally, I think Xbox Ninja Gaiden II on Master Ninja is far more difficult than Master Ninja mode in Ninja Gaiden: Black. Black is typically fair, in that if you're good at the game's core mechanics you can get through it conceivably with no damage. NGII often relies on luck, with framerate drops, atrocious camera issues, very strange Tests of Valor, some stupid AI (which can actually make it harder since spamming is more effective for you and enemies in NGII with the ramped-up number of attacks that provide i-frames), etc.
Of course, part of that may be based on the fact I never used healing items until Chapter 7. Still, I feel like MN on NGII requires both abuse of i-frames and prayer the game permits you to do them. The "unpredictable AI" in NG: Black is actually not that unpredictable, and if you're smart and fast most enemy attacks can be retaliated (blocked, dodged, intercepted) on reaction. In NGII, the camera, increased enemy speed/count, obsession with all attacks giving i-frames and the unholy obsession with explosives makes things much harder to react to.

Furthering my opinion, I feel than Sigma 1 is a great (no, amazing!) game, but only because of what it took (nearly everything) from NG: Black. Almost every change/addition made to/for Sigma from Black was for the worse. I could list 'em off, but to save time I'll just say there's no doubt in my mind Black is the best Ninja Gaiden game.

My biggest issue was player block stun in NG2, but otherwise I agree with most of your post.

I actually haven't played Ninja Gaiden Black in awhile. I play Ninja Gaiden Sigma more because of the updated graphics and the dual katanas. I'm still angry that Team Ninja didn't give Rachel her whip that she had in the first NGS trailer. It might have made her chapters better but I don't mind playing as her. I don't really remember much of the gameplay differences besides being able to counter attack more of the Berserkers moves. But I think they are harder to fight in groups because the others would do long range attacks while you are fighting one of them.

I didn't like NG2 much. Enemy design being the main reason.

She still has the retractable rope/whip "projectile" in Sigma.
