Hayashi's surprised comments when he found out people were disappointed about the missing characters doesn't give me a lot of hope about new possible DLCs.
Still it makes me wonder what the hell were they thinking.
I mean I could understand Leon... I loved it but it was one of the least liked DoA characters, I can understand his surprise in finding out people actually miss him.
But Ein?!? He has always been one of the most used and most liked characters since DoA2, how can you be surprised people go mad when you take it out from the game?!
Hayashi needs to diaf. I'm glad DoA5's director was Shimbori or DoA5 would have probably sucked just as much as NG3.

I know of Hayashi's words, but actually seems that the real reason was not enough time. Ein and Leon were characters that in the mind of the developers (I think Shimbori too) were the ones with less priority for a return in the game, and this not because unpopular, but overall for their moveset already present in the game in other characters (rispectively Bayman and Hitomi).
And before that someone say something... I'm the first to say that Bayman and Leon and Hitomi and Ein actually are very different in their gameplay.
Currently the official explanation to not bring back them is that this could be a risk for the balance of the game, thought since the beginning, and after with the patches, for working with this roster of 24 characters. Probably behind could be also economical reasons, but anyway the balance of the game is effectively something that could (or not) be compromised with the additions of new characters, and the consequence of this would be other patches for TN.
At least we have the promise by Shimbori in an interview that Leon, Ein and Tengu will return surely in the next game of the series (but I haven't still lost my hopes for DOA5 XD).

Yeah tbh I was expecting new characters for DoA5+, the fact that they didn't put them in there doesn't really do good to fuel my hopes.
I guess you could hope for a DoA5 plus mega giga alpha Sigma edition to come out on PS4/X720/WiiU?
Would be able to be ready at launch without too much work, compared to what a completely new DoA6 would require.

Well before could be a VF VS DOA crossover game... but like people excited for it seems often forget, games of this kind hasn't ever the complete roster of character from both the series, and actually in these cases are the characters more popular to be included. So, already knowing that very likely characters of the same Doa5 will be excluded from it, Ein and Leon seems to me automatically out.
Before of Doa6, the only way to see Leon and Ein (and Tengu), is with an expansion of Doa5, through DLC or a remake of the game. Personally I would prefer the first option than to have to buy a new game (not for the expense, but because I would prefer to complete the version of the game that already I own), but knowing the past of Team Ninja, a remake is not an idea to exclude.

But it wouldn't be what happened so far with the DoA series.
Think how many years passed between 3 and 4, and between 4 and 5.
Also, it would be much cheaper and quicker for them to just make a new version of DoA5 with better graphics with some new thing here and there compared to developing a completely new title from scratch.

Well, Team Ninja did say that Ein and Leon would likely return in future games and that they didn't appear in DOA5 because of time constraints. So, them skipping DOA5 altogether and reappearing in DOA6 is very possible.

I'm expecting a beach volleyball game at E3, not DOA6.
I certainly wouldn't expect DOA6 so soon. I'd imagine it would be something DOA5 related (like more DLC, an "ultimate/complete" re-release, or a Wii U port), or DOAX3, like you said.

If you have the lowest expectations, then it can only get better!
If they did a DOA5U that included Leon, Tengu & Ein, I would throw my money at it so fast my wallet would be confused. Then I'd use my current DOA5 disc as a coaster, while the new game laughs at it. Of course, this would also make my buying the collector's edition pretty wasted, but oh well.
the problem is no matter how low your expectations hope is an involuntary emotion so you're still vulnerable to disappointment
