Rachel General Discussion

Quick, lets all draw immediate conclusions on balance based on 1 day worth of play. Anyone remember day 1 DoA5? Helena "Worst character in the game" until weeks later when her force tech was discovered. Suddenly she went from worst in the game to best in the game in a single day.

I will actually bet we don't see a single Rachel main in top 8 at TFC. Not saying she is bad. But she isn't so brain dead good that people will be able to switch their mains when playing at that level after 2 weeks of time with her.

I can guarantee you that Sonic fox's rachel is better than Kwiggle's slightly. And I was a live witness when I tell you that its actually Kwiggle that copied and took all the cheap stuff that Sonic Fox discovered with her. lol.

Rachel is not at +28 if the stomp whiffs....

You want to know how I know? Rachel vs Brad Wong. If the stomp hits and Brad tries to jab, he can't interrupt Rachel's 66p. If stomp whiffs and Brad jabs, he can interrupt 66p.

I like how people keep complaining about how the game needs to have more frame advantaged/safer moves, but when a characters gets that, everyone complains about her.
I think it's less so characters getting that so much as just one character having it in droves and no one else.

If everyone was apparently as ridiculous as Rachel I doubt anyone would be complaining. (I say apparently as I don't have the game yet myself)

But she doesn't get that though. She isn't at +28 if stomp whiffs. Her stomp leaves her at +15, but you can tech out of it. She has one move that leaves her +5 on block. So what is everyone actually complaining about?

Thinking back to my test I confused the data. I don't know what the frame advantage if they tech is, especially as it varies to when they in fact tech and how frame precise you are with it. Note, if you hit it on the first frame then the force tech kick will not connect and not force them up. I don't remember the exact moves I'd used to test it.

^ No, she's JUST that braindead good. Within a few matches I was owning with her.

FWIW, I think every character should be like this. But that's not going to happen

Spartan was like this. Very powerful tools, no technical shit.

Sorry just verified that she's around +11 if you tech the kick, +/-2 frames depending on your timing of the 2K.

you can basically win with just high counter throws because they do sooo much, but she's not at all OP, her range is terribly bad and she only excels at being in your face, but even then you still need to work in frame advantage which will limit your mix ups because her moves are SLOOOOOOOW

So I was demolishing peeps the other day with like a 30 something win streak in ranked, and this guy I had beaten two times already with two different characters decides to pick this bitch and beats me twice in a row. I had never fought her before so I lacked experience there, but I had tried her out in sparring. I felt like she was like a lame version of how cool spartan was.In the fight my hp just melted away. She has quick ass normals that do hella dmg, and I lost. After my beating, I went into training and tried to figure this bitch out.

I decided these were the clearest things to look out for.
  • The follow up from 1p is unsafe
  • Like all of her moves are mid punches (so counter that shi) and the fastest thing she has is like 13 frames
  • Her dumb guard breaks reset everything at 0 or -1 (some shi like that) for her so treat that as such.
  • Mixing up between running punch and the mid kick (+5) is gonna be her go-to to close in.

    What speed are her jab - fastest mid and low?
Fastest low: 14
Fastest mid punch and kick: 13
Jab: 11, pp 9

It's advantage. You're doing it wrong.



Why do you support this kind of shenanigans anyway? You prefer the concept of a character that rewards failure?

For what I've tested via setting the computer's recovery status on, you still cannot get out of the stomp. The tech will pop up, but you can still nail it every time despite someone teching and that's after doing 9k or p+k.

Because I like strong oki that has the grounded player at a disadvantage. I got no safe jumps, no vortex, no high-low unblockables, no left-right unblockables, etc. here, so I gotta settle for guaranteed force techs.
