Hayashi's Team NINJA wanted a fresh start with DOA's story it seems, (hence Dimensions) which also meant some personality changes.
Some aren't as bad as others though.

I think it's even better. What's the actual difference between "I will crush anyone who stands in my way" and "The match is decided." In DOA5 she says that with such an undertone as if she knew she was winning and her opponent not worth her time. Of course, the difference is that the DOA5 is a winning quote, and the DOA3 an intro quote. Still it is pretty much the same to me.
I think that's totally awesome. She is just expressing it a bit different this time around.
"Let's see how strong you are". She is actually saying that in DOA5, btw.
Her cold side doesn't really shine trough in DOA5. Instead her "soft" side appears more. But mostly because of the "I can't kill Kasumi anymore because Hayate would stop me if I would try that. So I will just accept this situation and similing a bit". That's pretty mature if you ask me.
And I think she doesn't wanna disappoint her brother, the only real reamining person who cared abour her in her life. I guess they had no choice when they wrote the story because of the stupid reuninion of Kasumi & her ninja friends.
I agree with her being still being a bit bratty, but who knows. She is trolling, also from time to time. I liek that, lol. She trolled Eliot in DOA5 and Helena in DOA2. Each in their own way (with Eliot being a really special case. I'm sure someday TN will expand their relationship).
That's why I dislike her entire DOAD character.

Yeah, and that's what makes me a little annoyed at Ayane's character in DOA5. They basically made her this unlikable brat instead of that mature teenager who seems like she has a large chip on her shoulder at first glance. u.u Yeah, Hayate's one of the few people besides Kasumi (does she even count) & Ayame (I think she still cared for Ayane) who actually cared about her after Genra died.
Ayane and her trolling that'll never end. But I'm still confused on her relationship with Eliot. Either she has a crush on him (or vice versa), or she just enjoys fucking with him. I hope Team Ninja expands her relationship with Eliot, and build up her relationship with some of the other characters like Hitomi & maybe have another friendship with another character, maybe Christie or someone.. they seem to love fucking with people I'm sure they'll get along.

Yeah I see what you mean. But IMO that's ok, I think. The coolness and badassery is a bit gone from her, at least during some conversations. But she still shows it in battle.
I think Eliot looks a bit up on Ayane cauz she is "slightly" more experienced than him (ninja magic stuff destroying entire skyscrapers and being the leader of the Hajin Mon sect xD...is he even aware of this?) and, at least in DOAD, she told him not to give up (main reason).

Kasumi explicitely care for Ayane and Ayane in deep care for Kasumi. In DoA5 the smile of Ayane and the return of her kunai from Kasumi are not the signs of a forced truce decided by the circumstances, rather of a new-found harmony and understanding between sisters.

I know. It's basically included in my last sentence. The situation you described mostly started at the end of the game (before the boss fight of the gender changing Alpha, lol). Before that Ayane wasn't so sure what to feel about Kasumi (the original Kasumi).
They couldn't let Kasumi die, nor letting Ayane kill her, so that's why TN came up with that idea and leaving Ayane as a kind person in the DOA5 story mode for the most part. And the (stupid) side effect is the less cool and badassery appearance during conversations.

I know that you don't take in consideration DoA Dimensions, but being the new canon (also if you don't recognize it
) actually Ayane become sure of what to feel about Kasumi after her dialogue with the mother.Kasumi is not the only person with which Ayane can interact as enemy: the next time that she will see Rig she wil act again badass, cool and angry thinking to what he made to Hayate, the same could happen with her meeting Christie, Donovan or other people. That side of Ayane is not lost, just DoA5 has not showned it (contrarily for example to NG3:RE and her fight with the soldiers).
