Going to be frank. Raidou or Genra would even be better choices for purchasable DLC. There is a playerbase that the whole "moveset mixture" type of character (Dural, TTT 1 Jin, SF4 Seth, etc) appeals to so people would probably buy Raidou and Genra has a weapon and shoots projectiles. That's flash which people love and he's still easier on the eyes than Tengu.

Not debunking Tengu fans by any means but I shouldn't have to say that in an effort not to step on people's toes when what I'm saying is probably true.

Or you could just make a muscular good looking angel variant of Tengu with wings, a human like appearance and a nearly identical moveset and you'd probably still get more people to buy him than Tengu. That's probably the biggest factor right there. Make him good looking and appealing to the eye and ear and people will most likely buy him.

Maybe you are right, but you are talking overall about new or non DoA fans of the series. I think that the majority of who was able to play and love all the previous games, if forced to express a preference about the old bosses could be more fond of Tengu also only for a nostalgic factor, however I admit that Raidou could be a worhty rival (but surely not Genra, playable only in DoA Dimensions).

Said this, actually I would have liked to see al the characters of Dimensions in DoA5U, but between the bosses I would have given the priority to a - well balanced - Tengu for the uniqueness of his style.

Surely, but in that case Team Ninja know well that every fans that wanted Tengu would be displeased by it. What would be the point to put back again the style of Tengu for their fans, if then you don't bring back also the character associated to this style that they loved? With Spartan-458 there wasn't anything to do, and actually I'm pretty glad that his fighting style ended to return associated to Rachel (that according to me is perfect for it), but Tengu is another matter because owned by TN.

Guys, chances of us even seeing the "Arcade Exclusive" character at this stage is really minimal... everyone should be thankful that the arcade character wasn't Tengu lol

Can you imagine? Here is Tengu for all you old DOA fans.... and now you cannot play him cause it's exclusive to the arcade version in Japan!

Not to mention, They're trying to appeal to the Japanese audience, and Tengu most definitely would not have been the way to go. Marie Rose however, Lolita is a big archetype in Japan. In every fighter that's originated in Japan, there is a Lolita style character... and they're usually really popular too =\

Replacing a character with a new character that uses an updated version of his/her previous style somewhat caused the downfall of the Soul Calibur series when apprentices and descendants took over the characters we all known and loved.

There's a huge difference between changing basically an entire roster of well known and loved characters with new ones and changing one character few people actually care about with one that is practically guaranteed to appeal to a wider audience. One is a huge risk, the other is a smart business choice.

Just because one person or corporation implements an idea horribly, it doesn't make the idea in question a bad one. It just depends on the situation and it's broadness.

Okay, now she's Swedish? I thought she was Russian? And Marie Rose sounds and spells very German.

I've to see anything that mentions her being an exclusive character.

Seems that can't be helped the fact that there are so many hints about the addition of a new character and overall that TN never said something about this character being an exclusive of the Arcade Edition (just like never said something similar for the CE outfits).

Well, I think that for convincing anyone we should wait for the official announce of Team Ninja about the next patch and free DLC (of Mary Rose and Lorelei stage).

Best solution: Tengu in a lolita dress. You get the character that few people cares for and you get to cater to the lolita archetype. Best of both worlds!

... Just kidding but at least there's no sacrifice.

In times like these, I wish they were more versatile like being able to give what a lot has been requesting while still being able to diversify in order to draw more audience.

Russian was only an assumption made by the people judging by her fighting style (systema that is a Russian one). The Famitsu scan never said anything about her nationality.

Her identity is in the mistery, is very likely that she could have an origin not Swedish.

I see, thanks for the clarification. Man, I hate, when rumors like the Russian and Swedish one get a life of their own and in the end everyone takes it for a fact.

I was reading through her PDF file and noticed that she apparently has a two-part taunt called "Escape Cat". I don't even...

But, some of her lines include:

"Boring"
"I'm so big, huh?"
"Dun-da-da-DUNNN!!" (Fanfare...?)
"Now, I'm all dirty!"
"How long do you plan on sleeping?"

and of course...

"BAKABAKABAKA!" (Dummy, dummy, dummy!)

*sigh* It still might be an act.

I know, this happen really often.

In the same way, everyone was sure that 13 was the age of Marie Rose, when actually I wasn't still able to know if the scan indicated that she is the 13th brand DoA girl, or the the gap of years from the last DoA Arcade (that actually was released 10/16/1999, so 14 years and 1 month ago...). But in any cases, the 13 wasn't for her age.

I don't understand werewolfgold, these are the names of her taunts or of her quotes during the poses? (I suspect the name of the taunts). And what you mean with it could be an act?

However, like her bio seemed to suggest, she is a pestiferous girl not so nice toward the opponents XD

Well, the name of the taunt is pretty much indicative of what the say during it.

And, I just keep having this feeling that she's going to end up a psycho for reason.

Sorry I expressed me wrong, I wanted say if these were the name of her taunts (and so almost surely of what she say during the taunt poses), or if they were the quotes of her openings and victory poses.

But, like you confirmed me, it was most likely that they were her taunt poses (also because for what reason TN should write her quotes in the page with the moveset of the character? XD).

And, I just keep having this feeling that she's going to end up a psycho for reason.

Lol, I don't think so but who knows? XD
EDIT: AirGear explained and confirmed the 13 matter on Doaworld:

1) The big “13” on the article is not her age. It is, like someone said, the gap between now and the last time DOA was in the arcade. The year is counted from the last released arcade version of DOA, which is in the year 2000. That version was called “DOA2 Millennium”, an updated version of DOA2 Arcade.

K, guys. I like Marie so far. She looks cool and the fact that she doesn't have big boobs is great for DOA. (lol) In no way am I hating on her. I might actually play her if she becomes playable.

But here is why I think they should've included Tengu: They were planning to put him and Ein in 5 but didn't have the time to do it. Then they put Ein in 5U and Tengu was still not there. That was disappointment number two. The fact that his fan base isn't that big isn't a real problem. The people who want him in the game are very dedicated fans. The fans don't just like him, they almost love him.

He was also a special character. He's no human, he's a monster. DOA lacks bad guys.

I also want to see a solid Tengu. No overpowered one, no piece of shit one. A mid tier Tengu would support people to actually play him. You don't want to play a banned character and most of you don't want to play a bad character.

As much is Tengu is missed and needed, I think Marie-Rose is a good addition and probably the best coup to make a big comeback on the arcade!

Also, we now have a better rival for Eileen (instead of Eliot, who can go with Lei Fei I suppose, makes more sense since they are both apprentice and have a very traditional Chinese fighting style).
