I'm sorry but a bunch of low resolution brown boxes don't make for a good looking game.

The characters do look amazing (minus most of the guys), but the stages do look like PS2 remnants.
It's no exaggeration to say, the DOA3 and DOA2U stages on the good old Xbox looked better...because they actually do look better. Just compare Lorelei, Forest and Lost World stages. It's really shocking. XD The Xbox stages have better art direction, texture resolution and better antialiasing.

But apparently an ocean's worth of bloom and paper mache for hair does.

Come on, the SC4/SC5 hair is practically done in the same style as the hair of DOA/DOA4U is. It's just a bit shinier and for that reason more anime-ish. (edit: Yes, it was really a bit stiff though, as Kodachi says)...) The bloom and rim lighting was toned down in SC5. I don't know, why Argentus thinks SC4 looks better than SC5 though...

Ayane has something to say

DOA5/5U are by far one of the prettiest games on PS3/360 to date I don't know what you're smoking but pls stop
If you ever look at the stages instead of the characters you'll see what m talking about. Convenient how theres no background in that ayane pic.
Even then I think soul caliber does a better job with detailed textures, even on character models.

Hell even in that oic of ayane I'm cringing at the model and textures of her hand and arm. Its just the upgrade from anime to pseudo realistic in the fave that looks good, plus details like sweat etc. They did a threat job with the girls faces, bit almost everything else is mediocre to sub par

Exactly lol. First thing I noticed. A decade later and I'm all "...how come it looks worse than in doa3?"

Not sure what youean with the bloom, and hair always sucks in videogames. But DOA has always had notoriously paperish hair before 5 lol.

Though I am really impressed with the multiple layers of hair on mila, it actually looks good when she is moving around.
As opposed to the almost solid block on most.

Havent played enough of 5 to compare.

Because he made one good game after making a plethora of terrible ones?
Yeah, the 3D era might have been mixed opinions, but 2D? No sir. If it wasn't for MK causing the creation of the ESRB your "Ryu" probably wouldn't even have gore....

That's bloom (lighting):

It was all the rage at the end of the Xbox and Gamecube era (PS2 wasn't able to) and at the beginning of the PS3, 360 and Wii era). That's also, what ruined Wind Waker on WiiU:

Also the rim lighting was too excessively used in Soul Calibur 4, which made it look to shiny and plastic like. But Nintendo also is one of the worst offenders regarding that:

Excessive bloom and rim lighting! XD

I think sc4 is the best looking fighter to date. At least as far as lighting and colors and textures.

Doa5 was one of the worst looking of the generation, sad to say.

Hell no. The models are pretty crappy in places and the bloom mainly brings it out to look better than it is. It doesn't help that DOA5 female models actually does focus on minute details(including the tongue, surprisingly enough) while SC5 is just barebones.

EDIT: have no reason why I somehow mixed up SC3 with 5...
