I doubt it's harder than Hitomi.Did all side steps get buffed, or just a select few characters? Being on xbox, I've yet to see how Akira is post patch. Pre 1.03, Akira has to work harder than any other character in this game for damage. I'm really curious to see my combos post 1.03.

Akira's tools are I believe superior to Hitomi, despite the higher skill level required to use them properly. But I'll take your word for it. Jann Lee, Lei Fang and Gen Fu are all extremely linear and that didn't stop them being top tier. Crippled is a very strong word for a character as good as Kokoro. She is still able to by pass the stun game easily, her damage output is still extremely high, she's still really safe. If linearity is such a problem post patch then Jann, Lei and Fu are fucked too, and I don't see that being the case.
Kokoro has an i10 jab and an i12 mid punch, with that she can compete with every character in the game speed wise. I'd kill for an i10 jab, just so I had one attack that could beat an i11 mid punch.
Honestly I don't think people can be completely objective about their characters, I mean Jann Lee players still deny him ever being top tier and say he is mid tier at best. Perhaps I'm the same way with Helena I dunno.
I was talking about her jab and mid punch speed in reference to someone saying she can't compete with Kasumi and Christie.
I don't know about v1.03 since I don't know how the changes to Christie will work out, but in v1.02 I'd go as far as to say that the Kokoro/Christie matchup is around 7-3 in favor of Christie, if not worse. Christie has the speed, the range, the crushes, and is very evasive with her stance. Christie probably is the best counter-pick to Kokoro.

And the tradeoff was that he was crazy unsafe and just as sidesteppable as the next fighter. He didn't need any nerfs. The fact that they nerfed a character that was previously bottom tier and gave back tools to characters that were already better than him is infuriating. I can't even begin to describe my anger.In all seriousness though something needed to give. He had free stun with no ability to counter anything once you got caught into free CB or Max threshold into mix up. Completely shat on everyone elses stun game.
literally if u got hit by p+k or ssp or 3k within that setup or 3pp u were fuqed as the following was free.
Not a single other character in the game had an entire free stun. The logic makes sense.
