DoA has been on 360 for the entirety of the current generation and much of the last one with the original Xbox. I'd wager the playerbase will be larger on 360 by a solid amount. PS3 should be pretty healthy, though. I'll have it on both either way.

There are a lot of players picking it up for the PS3 that have not played the game since DOA2 on the PS2. That's a huge system shock.

-There are a lot of players who left Doa solely due to it being xbox exclusive. I would say that 75% of those that adopted Doa3 were dreamcast users ( I know That I was one!) Having missed out on the glory of Doa3.1, Luckily they missed out on the abomination that is Doa4! They can enjoy the beauty that is Doa5.

DoA4 had badass endings. Well, like three anyway.
-Well to be fair, Doa4 was 99.95% Horrible. But there were a couple of good things that came out it;
  • Sabakis(Which carried over in an improved form in Doa5).
  • Improved SE(Which carried over to Doa5).
  • Crumples, sans the wall crumple(Was always good in Doa).
  • In-stun DH doing less damage(significantly less in Doa5).
  • Giving Parries damage modifiers depending on timing of use was kinda cool. Hopefully they expand upon this idea in Doa5.

I'd expect the majority of tournaments to be 360, with a select few being PS3, but you never know. When (and if) Allen does his online tournaments again, I could easily assume he'd be using the PS3 version, considering it has free internet (and thus more players to enter). *shrugs*

Yeah, I will be back at doing the online tournaments again. I actually have a new online competitive league (not DOARR), myself and someone else has come up with. However, none of that will start right away. Depending on how many will be on the PS3 I will host on there too, no doubt, that may change things as far as the league goes but, not the tournaments. I am pretty sure the majority will be on the 360, so that's where I will predominately be hosting tournaments.

Nice. I plan on doing a few as part of a series as well, but I don't know for sure how everything's going to work just yet. I'm thinking of doing something like points depending on how you finish, with a finals tournament for the top 4, 8 or 16 (depending on how many enter each time) in points.

I hope the online is good. It almost has to be if this game is going to have any kind of competitive scene.
-Most definitely. I would also like to add the fact that there would also be an online training mode(if I read the feature list correctly), so the functionality of a good online play is imperative.

The offline scene up here is almost exclusively PS3, and I've been asked to host DOA5 when it comes out (these scrubs don't even know who I am...) I told them that I'd host if it was a tournament viable game, and I'll be hosting on PS3. If the tournament standard ends up being 360 though, I may switch. It does seem like most of this community will be on that system, but most national tournaments are already 360, if they didn't switch when the Capcom community begged them to because of frame delay, I doubt they'll change for DoA5 simply because DoA2U, DoA3, and DoA4 were on Xbox (wow that sounds like a lot when you actually put it out...)

-We need all the Doa5 players united! no discrimination here. I know for the most part, The east coast(GVN and NEC) as well as the Texas DID tournaments will all be ran on the 360(things could very well change). That leaves NOCAL and SOCAL open to discussion. If there is a greater turn out to those players who play on the PS3, than there is no choice but to play on the PS3, less there is a game changing problem on the PS3. So we need to see how the turnouts of our respective regions play out to determine which console will be the tournament choice.

If this game doesn't have netcode on par with SCV and TTT2 (I'm assuming here but it's a safe bet it'll be as solid as SCV) it'll fail miserably. Problem is that the most recent TN game with online play, NG3, had really terrible netcode. Fingers crossed that they got it right. I have faith in the game but the netcode is a different story.

I know the few local tournaments I've been to for SFIV in this area have been 360, same with BlazBlue.

I've heard VF5FS has a good netcode, what're the chances of them helping team ninja out with that too?

Also Daman, it varies every local to local just based on what the community has. In SoVA we played on PS3's and 360's pretty equally, which sucked for pad players, having to bring two pads, but I don't think it hurt the scene at all.

True, but I was noticing 360 was the system of choice for tournaments as far east as Reno, Nevada and as far south as Sacramento, but then again, those are the limits I have for traveling to tournaments in terms of distance.

They only shared assets for the characters to my knowledge. VF5FS had decent netcode, though. It was not as good as SCV.

-I don't even want to hope for good netcode. Team Ninja(TN) need to make it so they get the best netcode that is currently available, or surpass it! Many have doubts, but I do feel that Doa5 will be a hit title, even with the release of TTT2 a week or two in advance. If TN play their cards right, they could very well have the best fighter out this generation, especially if there is a patch that will make all the characters relatively safe(if it is not already in the works), and return the wall game back to Doa3.1 standards(characters bounce off the wall and go into a wall stomach crumple). If not, just completely rip of the wall system from Vf5 and we will have the return of a great wall game in the series!!!

-Which area is that may I ask?
