Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z

I like the art style and Yaiba, but I've never played a Ninja Gaiden game (shocking, I know). However, I tend to enjoy mindless hack and slash action games, so I'd probably play this and enjoy it. But it depends on how flawed the game design really is. Reviews on anything, at the end of the day, are just the OPINIONS of individuals reviewing said product. At the end of the day, I think it's better to either rent or play a friend's copy and judge the game for yourself. I personally thinks it looks cool.

No doubt about that, however that was going to happen anyway. The last several years have given rise to incredibly annoying trends with fanboys and current social media gives them all fucking megaphones. Don't feel like going too far into it but this game is just the latest punching bag. DmC last year got similarly unfair treatment from people who were never going to even try, Xbox One in general, Sony's lack of games for PS4, no backwards compatibility for current consoles...anything that people can use as fuel gets attacked mercilessly online and then you get to listen to people parrot the bullshit everywhere before long.

The gaming industry is in a sorry state and it's not likely to ever get better.
Agreed. The industry is not what what it's used to be.

The problem with that line of thinking isn't that you're wrong but simply that reviews, YouTubers, and review aggregating sites have significantly more power to influence sales than telling your friends about something now.

Probably never will be again.

That's why I don't usually go by reviews. I usually prefer to look at gameplay videos and judge for myself. If the game looks cool, then I'll more than likely buy it.

i plan on giving a full review of this game on here once we beat it however there is issue in that im playing it with my friend and that adds more fun to the experience than just playing it myself, it will probably be skewed.

the game itself from what i can tell is incredibly unpolished on the visual side. there are tons of little glitches but i never felt they affected the gameplay and majority of the time me and my friend just laughed at them

the action is EXTREMLEY chaotic keeping track of Yaiba is pretty dam difficult and their are tons of things to distract you into making an error. the normal zombies can take a hit and they're much more aggressive than the grunts in Dynasty Warriors give them an opening and they will take it. you need to knock them back with your flail but abusing creates torsos which you DO NOT WANT. the special zombies are a challenge take them lightly and they will fuck you up, take them seriously and they will probably still fuck you up.

Quoted from Ninja Gaiden Facebook:

"We hope our fans accept this. When people make a change, maybe we can say "evolve""refine""extend""explore""try"there must be some pros and cons. We can't stick to Mr. Itagaki, we respect him in game development, he created such great games, NINJA GAIDEN & DOA and he left those to us. It's always the challenge for us to create any games that people acclaim and say "this exceeds Itagaki's game" under the name of Team NINJA. We all know it's damn tough thing, but without making any movements, we are just gonna die."

You see, I don't fully disregard the reviews. Team NINJA set themselves up to be a punching bag when they had a flock of panties flying from the sky into the face of a cool looking Cyborg ninja. I like some of the character designs (Yaiba & Miss Monday) and the concept was very interesting, and they kind of banked on Ryu being a badass that you get to see ever-so-often so you can bow to his graceful beatings (Raiden-Snake situation).

Since I can't entirely, defend the game I will still defend Ninja Gaiden -- and if you didn't like 1/Black you can burn in hell.

My advice for Team NINJA is: you took an interesting risk, and it didn't really pan out, but was critically panned. Put it behind you, and really kill it with Ninja Gaiden 4. Take what the players are saying to heart, add Hayate (even though he's weak and shallow compared to Ryu) and kill it.

Hayabusa doesn't have to be complex to be awesome. In a way, his objective, straightforward mind gives him a persona and charisma that really reinforces how badass he is.

Yeah, and to be truthful, Hayate doesn't have the charisma or brute strength of Ryu. That's why I've never complained about Hayate not being in Ninja Gaiden. But I do support him being a playable character. He is a ninja after all, just the weakest one by far.

In all fairness, Hayashi collaborated with Inafune on this project, which further adds to the WTF factor on how they could (supposedly) mess this game up so bad. Maybe I should play the game for myself.

Actually the game was ideated and directed by Keiji Inafune and developed by Team Ninja, Comcept and Spark Unlimited. Good or bad, the responsability is far from being only of TN.

On a sidenote, the same happened for the outcome of "Metroid Other: M" - that by the way I liked - even if in that case the fans of Metroid complained mainly about the plot/characterization and not the gameplay.

As those of us here play the game, we can get discussion going on the game itself. Let's avoid bringing garbage here from GAF and other places since most of them also haven't played it. I'm all about being very blunt and direct with feedback. You need only look at posts on Ninja Gaiden 3 pre-RE for confirmation on that. But we're going to have a bit more integrity here. Many of us have had the pleasure of speaking directly to our favorite developer at events and through other channels and we owe them at least that much, considering the things they've done for us.

Just make Ryu play like Ryu and I will be a happy camper. Please no more input lag/i frame fuck ups/qte.

NG4 will probably be the final nail in the coffin if it fails. Yaiba is a spin-off, but NG4 should play like a NG game (Black/II).

Well I guess one good thing that has come out of the horrible yaiba reception is that Team Ninja knows now what and what not to do with the series I guess, this could possible benefit NG4, maybe, as they know now what people want and don't

Yaiba is a completely different game to begin with. They've said it from the beginning and yet people still don't listen. Apples to oranges and all that.

Agreed. I've said that before. That said, the subtitle is Ninja Gaiden Z, not Ninja Gaiden, so even still it's different. That's like saying DragonBall and DragonBall Z are the same thing based on name alone.
