I'm hyped. With the tonfa being added, I can only hope that the third DLC will feature the nunchaku (or vigoorian flail).

New difficulty. Does that mean I'm going to have to finish the Destroyer of Demons trophy all over again?

Speaking of which, is that a Kitsune mask William is wearing? along with the fan like Nyotengu/Bankotsubo? curious on that ahaha.

The fan had me curious as well. I'm hoping that it's a ninjutsu skill rather than a full, equippable weapon. I don't think we need a full fan weapon.

Or it could be a signifier of learning the Tengu fighting style. That isn't exactly new at all considering Yoshitsune was stated to have been trained by Tengu in folklore.

His deception rules all of creation.

On a serious note I'm looking to finally play the game some time this week. Just need to be able to play only NiOh and not get sucked back into the Diablo 3 and Tekken 7 vortex (oh wait a minute, Summer Jam is next month...).

Was hoping for a Famitsu article this week, but doesn't look like it. Maybe next week…

The poster image for the DLC show Sanada's second spirit… and it's the Moth girl, so I guess we get this spirit this time.

I'd assume the DLC has a completely new Sanada set with a weapon this time around, don't think they will reuse the Pre-Order stuff (well the looks obviously)

Not sure about the Tengu fan either, might just be a consumable/Ninjutsu/Onmyo item, or maybe a ranged weapon that shoots gusts of wind (since people wanted something that scales with Magic anyway). Pretty sure it's not a melee weapon with skills etc., they would have announced it alongside the Tonfa in that case.

I'm actually a bit surprised they are going to add more difficulty options. If they stack something on top of Way of the Demon, I guess they now have to check if you have one DLC installed and give you WotD and if you have both it unlocks the new one? I just hope they leave the level caps for character and gear alone and would prefer something like Bloody Palace, or HP2/Eternal Legend, we'll see…

edit(July 18th):
We do get a Famitsu article this week… here are some high quality scans:

hopefully someone provides higher quality scans at some point

They will also do some livestream event right before release again

Alright, It's been a long while coming but another status report from my experiences with this game:

After taking a little hiatus from beating the game, I've basically had a hell of a time gearing myself adequately enough that I can do the DLC stage as well as Way of the Strong without too much issue...

This also includes the BS double boss battles as well.

I stupidly did Nobunaga & Yuki-Onna without any Divine Armor sets in which I got my ass kicked ALOT...
In comparison, after getting the Red Demon set Divine Set and the Divine Raikiri(which will OFFICIALLY be a pain in the ass to Soul Match it to make it like +5), the Honda + Muneshige battle was SO much easier by comparison.

The stage with Nobunaga and Yasuke as well as the Remnants is easily the most BS of the Double Boss Battles as you have to go through them and they will spam the shit out of ranged weapons and stay real close and force you to waste valuable items to make you easily unprepared for the actual boss battle.

Of course, Yoshitsugu and Mitsunari is such bullshit...
I basically had to get Living Weapon and kill the hell out of Mitsunari before it ended otherwise I would have died again...

The Youkai Monster Rush and Boss Battle Rush was also just as much ridiculousness as the former has some fucked up monster combos(2 Umbrella Youkai, 2 Skeletons and a Flying Bolt...and then it's 2 Oni and then 2 Raven Tengu before finally fighting those elemental enemies, MY MOST HATED ENEMY IN THAT FUCKING WHEEL, and that Blacksmith Remnant.

The Boss Rush wasn't so nonsense but the bosses definitely got buffed up which made killing them without wasting too much items such an exercise in tedium...

Of course, I spammed Random Encounters to the point I got Ginchiyo and Okatsu and I plan on getting Fuku later. I wonder if we will get Maria and Yuki-Onna as skins with this next DLC pack...hopefully we do.

I have yet to do the Okatsu & Hattori Hanzo dual boss battle since I didn't actually do anything with my Ninjutsu points nor did I try to get any levels in Dexterity(and there was plenty of skills in that tree that could have helped alot...)

The double boss mission are, by and large, complete bullshit. If they are indeed adding a new difficulty with the new DLC and they want me to complete those missions all over again on the new difficulty for a trophy I will not be happy (same applies to Twilight missions, since camping the rotation is tedious as all hell).
I wonder if we will get Maria
Probably.
and Yuki-Onna
Probably not.

No Yuki-onna is sad face for me, but what Brute said might be true.

Yeah, I really do want Yuki-Onna but the only enemies I know that they have as Youkai skins is the Skeleton and Remnant, that's it.

Yep, the game simply wasn't built for double bosses as it isn't really built even for fighting more than one enemy at a time.

I think there won't be a Maria skin before the final DLC, since they kinda set her up as the new main villain and unlocking skins is usually tied to finishing a characters “storyline”.

In other news:
The Nioh article from this week's Famitsu issue was translated by RPG site.

Structure seems to be basically the same as the last DLC:
  • 3 new locations, 2 for main missions and one for side missions
  • Nurarihyon can be obtained as a guardian spirit this time… probably right after the opening cinematic like Nekomata
  • Sounds like primarily human bosses again, guess the disparity between Ungyo and Agyo titles will grow further. I'd prefer more Yokai stuff, but whatever… maybe next time.

And it seems the new difficulty Way of the Enlightenment is unlocked after WotD. Looks like higher mission and item levels again with a new twist for enemies… meh. Though I don't really get the complaints from the Souls crowd, it's not like your NG+ cycles are a fresh experience in these games. Most Souls games have a bit of ring placement shuffling (up to NG++) and Bloodborne had… nothing, right?

Looks like someone found some sort of Glory glitch for large amounts.

1) So you need the hidden teahouse and need to be in a clan.
2) Go to clan battles and donate (the more stuff you have the better)
3) Check everything and then lock everything but 1 item
4) You will still get all the glory of everything but only donate 1 item.

I'm only a couple missions in now but do clans matter when I unlock the Hidden Teahouse? As in if I want to play with you guys (should I stay that dedicated) picking a clan won't prevent that?

No. They can give you Glory bonuses (currency earned by defeating revenants) and some stat bonuses if others who chose your clan earn a lot of glory, but for the most part, they can be largely ignored. They don't affect who you can play with.

Well the Japanese patch notes are already up, so you can try to extract some meaning from the machine translations.
https://www.gamecity.ne.jp/nioh/update.html

Some stuff I noticed:
  • owning one of the DLCs unlocks WotD, owning both unlocks WotE. I'd assume that means there won't be a Destroyer of Demon's type trophy this time (or you only have to clear the new missions, if you previously had the trophy)
  • New rarity exclusive to WotE (guess will just have more base dmg, since all slots are already taken… or maybe rolls have higher caps on that rarity)
  • Only 2 new guardian spirits apparently
  • new consumables, ninja and onmyo skills for everyone (seems the added quite a few judging by the gameplay from the stream) as well as gestures
  • New gear rolls again? Not sure
  • only mentions Sanada and Sasuke skin
  • I think they relaxed the mission unlock conditions in WotS and beyond
  • QOL stuff like “only pick up {rarity}” and option to turn off the belt
  • no mention of raised character/gear/+ level caps… though they allegedly confirmed this on the stream.
Seems they also added ninja dogs as enemies, the Kitsune-like Yokai and a new Umi-bozu variant (maybe more)

They also announced an ESL online tournament for Japan lol
I wonder if they did anything about the auto-aim weapon roll in that case…

EDIT: Patch 1.14 is already out in the US

ninja dogs as enemies

No... NOt this... NOT AGAIN!!!

Sorry, my NG2 PTSD happened again. Anyways, a lot of new content, i'm still wondering if i play this now, or do i wait for the last dlc and for the last patch to not have to deal with the many gameplay and system changes that will still happen...

They haven't changed the core gameplay at all. Just some move tweaks and smithing type things. There is no benefit to waiting, here. That'd be in much the same vein as you waiting to start a fighting game because they'll patch.

They removed randomness of reforging like, 2 weeks ago, they rebalanced status completely, those are pretty big changes... That can make hours of grinding for some rare stuff become meanignless in the next patch and so on.

Probably still going to play tomorrow, but the game is changing a lot, a lot. which is honestly good.

None of that is gameplay, to me. I play Nioh like an action game and the rest is just window dressing in my eyes. The core gameplay hasn't really changed. I'm probably pitifully under-leveled for the endgame content and I don't intend to change that for the new DLC either.

That feeling of running around with 7 piece Warrior of the West gear set and Raikiri early game and just murking things (that centipede was so freaking easy). I originally thought that set bonuses would only work if you were using them (ie instead of Raikiri active you would HAVE to have the set sword active). Turns out just having them equipped is enough, I like that.
