DOA6 New Character Speculation

I hate K-Pop... mainly because of the majority of people that listen to it in America. It fucking sucks, and the older I get the more ridiculous and stupid it becomes. Not just because of the bizarre dancing, or the childish themes, but because I can't understand it and I've seen people that don't understand it dance to it and sing it without even knowing what it really means because they are so eager to mark themselves as weebo.

IF K-Pop made it into DOA it would be just another reason to miss Itagaki because he wouldn't stand for that and if we did ever have one I would beat the fuck out of it every chance I get and I would finally have a reason to truly appreciate the blood and bruises and would even be open to fatalities.
You sound really butthurt ngl.

Why does it matter how many people listen to it in America? That's what music is about lol. American singers sell their songs all over the world, why can't Asian singers (or any other non-American singer for the matter) sell theirs globally, too?

What's so bizarre about the dancing? They put all their heart on the dances and a lot of them are really energetic and powerful.

Childish themes? Sure, there are a few groups who have that gimmick as their theme. But Kpop idols in general? Hell no lol. HyunA for example isn't childish at all, sexyness has been her theme since she debuted. In fact, she was a very controversial singer back in the early 2010s because of that.

And just because you can't understand it its enough reason to not dance and enjoy Korean songs or directly HATE it? I don't know, I may be reaching, but that sounds low-key racist. Like, to me, your entire post literally comes out as if you were saying anything that's not in English is not worth of being liked. Especially the part of enjoying hitting the character just because it's a Kpop idol.

I don't know man, just chill.

Honoka already fill the Jpop trope (kinda), they can even put more emphasis on that side of hers by giving her a real carreer, as long as my female Korean character is a mature woman (both physically and mentally). I want a woman of action and justice, someone based on Shiri's main actress (the most watched Korean movie in the 2000s).

Racist? Uh.... no... if anything I'm attacking the audience of KPOP more than KPOP itself. That doesn't change the fact I would enjoy hitting one in the face... but seriously all you would have to do is give Marie Rose a microphone and there is your stupid KPOP character.

There are too many good characters that could get the cut to afford putting one of those things, or any other pop singer into DOA. Tina would be the only one allowed because everything she does is a passing phase.

I also heard something about Honoka's audio track being good and modern to the game... I don't remember who wrote that but that is crazy.

Honestly, they could just add Misaki to he game as dlc later and make her a newcomer idol trying to fight for an audience or whatever. I don’t think an idol is pivotal to DOA. I would much rather have a male idol than a female one. We have enough of the girly/feminine tropes for the female cast. We have enough overtly rugged/masculine tropes for the male cast too. I think a male idol would be a welcome fun addition. I would assume his personality would be a lot like Jacky’s and he could be a fun way to replace Jacky. Just saying.

Hell yeah! And make him 17 or 19-22. 18 is a cursed number in DOA.

I feel like with some of these character ideas being thrown around, some aren't necessarily thinking of whether or not they would actually mesh well with the rest of the cast. New characters should always be designed with the mindset of "If i threw him/her into a previous game in the series, would their design work?" which i think is a problem with recent fighters. For example, Tekken 7 and KOF XIV's newcomers feel overdesigned and for lack of a better word, tacky when compared with some of the simpler designs from the legacy cast members. I really can't see Gigas, Shaheen, or Lucky Chloe in Tekken 5 or something with their current outfits, meanwhile Luong (one of the better-designed KOF newcomers) at least LOOKS like someone who looks like she's been there from the very start. I'm not shutting down anyone else's ideas though! TN could pull thru anytime lol!

Personally, I always felt like DOA had a pretty grounded approach to their character designs, almost kinda like a leftover from its VF-based inspiraton. Having people ask for elves, winged devils/angels, superheroes and other things seems kinda... out there for DOA (yes I know about (Nyo)Tengu, Genra, and Alpha, but those were originally non-playable bosses so they get a free pass to look crazy lol). Everyone else in the main cast besides the ninjas have like no super powers, they're mostly just everyday martial artists, some with designs and backstories that allow for interesting approaches to their respective fighting styles like Helena and Zack. They're all unique in their own way but effective!

I love this design (the first one as the default) because its an example of a character who looks modern and new but still has a "DOA" feel to her. You can look at her first outfit and get that "I kick ass!" vibe. This design could easily get recycled for 6, give her a spunky, hard-headed personality to counter how they turned most of the younger female cast into airheads (RIP Hitomi, Kokoro, and Leifang), have her use a fighting style that nobody else in DOA has used yet, and you have a winner! I'd love to see either Pencak Silat or Wing Chun. Also, her pants, shoes and jacket is reminding me a lil of Game of Death. Based on that alone, my little "story" for her is that she's a Jann Lee fangirl in the vein of Sakura and Ryu. Since Jann Lee is the most recent tournament winner, she wants to enter after years of hard training and prove her worth to him. Also maybe she could be a rival of sorts to Leifang since she could possibly be the insane fangirl type regarding Jann and get super jealous of Lei stealing her fave ;). I'm all for more drama in DOA, especially if there's relationships/cabbage involved.

And on the topic of the kPop star, she could work. I don't see the deal with all the negativity surrounding it, there's a lot of ways TN could approach it but I do agree with the idea of her entering the DOA tournament as a way to advertise her group! That at least gives her a story/reason to enter, plus she could have cool interactions with those who recognize her.

I'm thinking something at least relatively close to this, just replacing the rollerskates with similar sneakers. The cap could be ditched by default too and just be an optional accessory. I like this fit because its sporty but still stylish and eye-popping enough to be something a kPop star would wear as promotion. No way she'd be wearing her idol dress to the tourney and get it all torn and dirty (at least not as a default of course :p)! Her fighting style should be a graceful, gymnastics-based "no-name" fighting style like Lili's, since no famous kPop star would have the time to learn a real martial art. She could have just taken gymnastics or something as a kid and incorporated it into her fights.

Playstyle-wise, I think it would be fun if they made her a tricky character based almost entirely on evasions and defensive play, with sidesteps, takedown throws, sabakis and counters abound. Plus, her strongest/most effective strings can be cancelled into a special sidestep twirl, Rachel style. To balance it out though, her low mixups outside of her sidestep attacks would be weak and have little stun (this is mostly me salty that they didnt add my girl Aoi to DOA5 tho lol). I feel like those advanced evasions could be mapped to the S button and use meter or something since normal sidesteps aren't coming back in 6 and having her freely dodging everything might be a little OP. Also since Nao isnt coming back anytime soon she should pull a Rachel/Spartan and snatch some of her moves. I don't want to see any good movesets go to waste, at least not entirely... the guests shall live on!

They can do kPop, just be unique about it and make it fit with the universe, that's all! Having a kPop star (note: KPOP!) hasn't been done in a fighter before and I'd like them to give it a little twist so it's not just another cute girl in a dress with an uninspired moveset...

Of course i have other ideas besides petite asian ladies but i'm too lazy to type em now xD

I personally think DOA has enough Asian characters and the game needs more diversity at this point.

DOA really needs someone as cocky and elegant as Lee Chaolan

A cool idea would be a android/robot type girl. I’m thinking like the ones from Chobits. It wouldn’t be too far fetched in DOA. We already have clones running rampant and not to mention the naked jell-o girl...

I also think a kuudere or kamidere type girl would be nice for DOA. The super cool girl or the superiority complex girl.

A yandere man would be pretty fun. Or the hyper feminine male that tends to be more like a jokester/trickster character. Flirts with everyone, men and women.

I hope there is a brazilian girl and a latin guy at least! :)
We do have a Latino man already (Leon), and knowing how much TN loves their culture, I doubt they'd want to add another one (let alone a MALE character) when they can just throw yet another Japanese man to the character roster. I'd LOVE to see a Hispanic Latino man though.

Italians are not what people call latinos though... We are descendants of ancient romans, also known as who spoke ancient latin, but we are not related to South Americans, at least genetically.

DOA afaik doesn't have any character from South America. Itagaki said Lisa is but many are still unsure about that, plus she definitely grew up in the USA.

Personally I always like the inclusion of South American characters. I guess TN already counts Lisa as one, but I'd definitely take a new male brazilian characters.

Yeah, people nowadays use "Latino" when talking about South Americans, but the truth is that Latinos are not only people from South America. Latinos are every ethnicity that has a mother language that comes from Latin. There's Europe's Latinos and America's Latinos. Hence why I called Leon a Latino, since he is Italian he's a Latinoeuropean man.

I like kpop because of the art. It's visually alluring. I also like C-pop with Jane Zhang. Dust your shoulders off my friend. Dust them off. TBH I probably got into kpop because it's like picking your favorite character from a video game. There are so many to choose from like when the spice girls were a hit fun group. Brings me back to the 90s. ❤️

Everyone has their opinion, we can like anything we want to like or dislike. Just don't come after my Jane Zhang.... Lol had to throw a little kpop bias fan humor although Jane Zhang is Chinese and has lots of English music.

Dont KPop Idols have really screwed up lives? I was under the impression that they're pretty much actual slaves to their production label.

Yup. They are so enslaved by their productions that there's been cases of idols passing out on stage. Some of them have it so hard and consumes all of their sanity that end killing themselves (such as SHINee's leader Jonghyun who committed suicide some months ago).

In general the idol industry is a really shady thing. Not only because of the idols struggling with their company's schedules, but also because it's a pretty dangerous job when it comes to fans. Idol fans in Asian countries are so obsessed with them that sometimes they put their idols's competition in risk, and sometimes even their own favorites. There's been reported cases of fans trying to murder idols that are the direct competence of their faves, and also idols who actually had fans attending their handshake events with their hands covered in their own fluids (even though this last thing usually happens more with Japanese idols).
