Honestly, it kinda does... That remake was pretty radically different from the original, even going so far as to nix TP entirely and play more like a fighting game than pretty much any other entry in the series. Probably a better example from the series would be Phantasia PS1. It redid almost everything from the ground up, but the end result still felt a lot more like a reimagined version of the original, rather than a totally different game with the same story.
Ooh is that so? Then I retract my statement lol. It sure looked like a deal like PS1 Phantasia, from the screens.
ToD PS1 is a pretty clunky game, as much as I like it. Still makes me wonder why they nyxed TP especially with Swordians o_0
But /off topic lol.

I never played Resident Evil so I wouldn't know. Tales of Destiny PS2 is also a remake and it doesn't reinvent the game, for example.
Resident Evil 2(2019) is basically an entirely new game its even more horror than the original (RE2 was actually made to be more action like funny enough)

I don't know about you, but as much as I like it, FFVII is very unpolished. Filling some of the story gaps and reworking the spartan graphics would already make people who feel it's too old try it.
Plus you can do many other things: add voice acting, rework cutscenes to give them more action than just people talking around, et cetera.
Granted, after the Complication media I don't think I'd enjoy the filled gaps too much but it's better than wondering a million things about Sephiroth.
FFVIIR IS doing this though? Its just that's gonna be an action RPG instead of ATB hell, last we saw of it in 2015 it was actually an Action/ATB hybrid. It's FFVII as if it was made in today's market and I really like that.

How is it any less of a nostalgia cash grab? Remaking FFVII, as a concept, has always been a nostalgia cashgrab, regardless if it's closer to the original or a complete new thing.
Well ANY remake is a nostalgia cash grab true, but a purely 1:1 remake but with today's graphics isn't needed.

Ah... So also sell the game to the people who don't like FFVII. That does make sense from a marketing standpoint.
I'm one of those people, FFVII isn't a bad game by any means if I was I wouldn't have played it fully 2-3 times. It's just nowhere near as legendary as people make it out to be. I honestly prefer IX to VII.

The bolded part, this is why they are changing the game from RPG to ARPG. The current general opinion on turn based and ATB is too negative and they have zero faith in it. They want to sell the game to people who want to see all the cool things of FFVII without having to deal with typical RPG stuff. All I can hope is that they actually cook up good gameplay instead of an unexciting button masher.
At worst it might be FFXV or Kingdom Hearts gameplay wise but I personally enjoy the action FFs more.

Also, you say "I never said ATB is not fun" but then give a detailed argument on why it's not fun or good...
I was specifically referring to VII and VIII to an extent there are ATB FFs I enjoy like XIII and LR and FFIV-VI and IX. They can still be fun despite flaws VII and VIII I found to mostly be a chore. It was also too easy which is its main problem.

So what? Most people play it like that therefore it shouldn't be turn based anymore? What kind of argument is this? Thank God I don't have to play the game like that all the time...
Also, as if in the managing and the upgrading you do in this game was not part of the gameplay.

You misunderstand my point, if it's played like an action game then its not really fully being enjoyed as intended.

The game also never requires you to use strategy or play it like an RPG except for the latter super bosses. Also, I just think FFVII will just work better with more interaction. There's more you can do with ARPGs than you can in menus. Is this a good counter argument? No. But the opposite side is just as shallow really usually ending with "because no turn based isn't FF" or something.

I know I'm in the minority but Real Time and Action FF is just way more enjoyable than ATB games. ATB/Turn Based done right can also be good though like Persona 3-5 or Trails of Cold Steel for example.

Personally, FFVIIR's switch to action based combat is a turn off for me. I would of preferred that they altered the original ATB system to be more strategic and interesting instead, but the reality is that the action game play will most likely get more people excited and sell more units in the end. Though my interest is pretty low right now, my mind could be changed if we see that the action game play requires thought and skill.

All in all, it just depends on how they handle it. I mean look at the Resident Evil 1 remake. They improved the graphics, reworked the models, updated the voice acting, but also added something new to the story. (AKA Lisa Trevor). Importantly though, they kept the same gameplay like the original did. Most people are split when it comes to how FF7 should be. Some want it just like how Resident evil 1 remake was. (Same with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro). While there are those who are willing to have it completely different like Tomb Raider and now RE2.

Honestly though, I feel like them making the change is giving them more trouble than it should be since they constantly have to hire new programmers to help make the game.

1 thing I like to see in FFVIIR is playing as Aeris until the end. We know what happens to her and I hope there's a way to change it.

Nah, I don't think they would. Unless they done something like adding a new character who is similar to Aerith/Aeris which would inherit her abilities after her death.

I stopped caring about VIIR when we went years without news. Then 3 years after the announcement there was a pic someone took of a guy working on the game and he had the very first boss on his computer screen. That was our news, it took 3 years to model the first boss.

I truly believe this game is never going to be released lol

I been on Dissidia from time to time. I might hit Crystal online soon depending on how it plays out. It's difficult to rank up now due to the matchmaking taking even longer because the issue is that there aren't that many players in that specific rank so it takes even longer just to play. I'll be down to play the game.

I get that Square wants to reduce newer players who started to not get wounded too easily being paired from players from a specific rank, but this fails in itself simply because players will get to that point where they understand the game now and just need experience to get used to the matches against players, so why not make the matchmaking have a search function of any ranks so that people don't have to wait like 12 minutes just to get a single match. I mean, I don't give a shit about rank points. Just get matches immediately is important.

Hopefully you'll be around when I can finally play since I don't want to be stuck in the lower ranks ranking up since when I played like months ago the teams I was paired in didnt know how to play at all and I was the one really doing while the Bartz and Clouds ran around like clowns xD I would rather play with teams who know how to play as well so I won't be affected by newbie players who don't know what to do

Yeah, it's one of the reasons I haven't playing much on it. Takes so long to find anybody. I do generally like playing, but it feels like I'm mostly playing a waiting game than the game itself lol.

The ones that worry me are the bots actually. If the matchmaking takes too long, you'll get paired up with bots by random rank levels. Bots don't take the time to save a player 100% of the time and they are extremely vulnerable to team attack hit loops and block stuns. You can ask Nikotsumi. When you get a bot on your team, the match now becomes a game on who protects the bot vs other team's bot. You can lose a online game by having a bot die 3 times lol. Happened to me a couple times, especially when you get two kills then all of a sudden you see "Defeat" and haven't realized that the bot died 3 times.

Yeah Dissidia online can be pretty fun, even though the matchmaking was slightly buffed it can still take forever to find matches because Square for some silly reason decided to make a system where it takes priority finding players based on the average pool rank rather than a "all" search, the same issue with party rank search. I personally don't give a shit about rank points and people shouldn't either (imo), Square should of implemented a brand new search to find "any" players whether it's gold, platinum, mythril etc.

I said the same thing, and I wouldn't blame anyone if they stopped playing entirely because of this reason alone.
