I never played Resident Evil so I wouldn't know. Tales of Destiny PS2 is also a remake and it doesn't reinvent the game, for example.
Resident Evil 2(2019) is basically an entirely new game its even more horror than the original (RE2 was actually made to be more action like funny enough)
I don't know about you, but as much as I like it, FFVII is very unpolished. Filling some of the story gaps and reworking the spartan graphics would already make people who feel it's too old try it.
Plus you can do many other things: add voice acting, rework cutscenes to give them more action than just people talking around, et cetera.
Granted, after the Complication media I don't think I'd enjoy the filled gaps too much but it's better than wondering a million things about Sephiroth.
FFVIIR IS doing this though? Its just that's gonna be an action RPG instead of ATB hell, last we saw of it in 2015 it was actually an Action/ATB hybrid. It's FFVII as if it was made in today's market and I really like that.
How is it any less of a nostalgia cash grab? Remaking FFVII, as a concept, has always been a nostalgia cashgrab, regardless if it's closer to the original or a complete new thing.
Well ANY remake is a nostalgia cash grab true, but a purely 1:1 remake but with today's graphics isn't needed.
Ah... So also sell the game to the people who don't like FFVII. That does make sense from a marketing standpoint.
I'm one of those people, FFVII isn't a bad game by any means if I was I wouldn't have played it fully 2-3 times. It's just nowhere near as legendary as people make it out to be. I honestly prefer IX to VII.
The bolded part, this is why they are changing the game from RPG to ARPG. The current general opinion on turn based and ATB is too negative and they have zero faith in it. They want to sell the game to people who want to see all the cool things of FFVII without having to deal with typical RPG stuff. All I can hope is that they actually cook up good gameplay instead of an unexciting button masher.
At worst it might be FFXV or Kingdom Hearts gameplay wise but I personally enjoy the action FFs more.
Also, you say "I never said ATB is not fun" but then give a detailed argument on why it's not fun or good...
I was specifically referring to VII and VIII to an extent there are ATB FFs I enjoy like XIII and LR and FFIV-VI and IX. They can still be fun despite flaws VII and VIII I found to mostly be a chore. It was also too easy which is its main problem.
So what? Most people play it like that therefore it shouldn't be turn based anymore? What kind of argument is this? Thank God I don't have to play the game like that all the time...
Also, as if in the managing and the upgrading you do in this game was not part of the gameplay.
You misunderstand my point, if it's played like an action game then its not really fully being enjoyed as intended.
The game also never requires you to use strategy or play it like an RPG except for the latter super bosses. Also, I just think FFVII will just work better with more interaction. There's more you can do with ARPGs than you can in menus. Is this a good counter argument? No. But the opposite side is just as shallow really usually ending with "because no turn based isn't FF" or something.
I know I'm in the minority but Real Time and Action FF is just way more enjoyable than ATB games. ATB/Turn Based done right can also be good though like Persona 3-5 or Trails of Cold Steel for example.
