The Official Dead or Alive 5 Tier List with Discussion thread

I have skimmed through a few posts and am a little disgusted in people debating whether or not Kokoro is a good or bad character. She is pretty damn terrible. I mean she got hit in DOA5 in 1.03a, but myself and the other top Kokoro players still stuck it out with her, but in 5U she got hit even more to the point where she is too inconsistent of a character.

She is so bad that Artemis and myself have taken on new mains/secondaries just to get by, and E-mann just dropped her completely. She seriously needs some help in this game.

From what I've seen of the Japanese tier lists, they have always believed her to be a top tier character. I'll leave it to you to take that information into thought as to why she hasn't received any buffs...

Leon, Pai and Zack are too low.
Personally I feel like Rachel and Akira are a bit too high (possibly Hayabusa but he's really hard to place so I'm fine with him being where you put him).

Peeps. The tier list is based on character match-ups. If any one of you manage to do it on your own you must be self-proclaimed gods with absolute insight into every character.

you forgot Hitomi bruh...

also I pretty much agree with this except Leon should be in B If Rachel is in that spot since Hes definitely the stronger of the two with superior damage output, more guaranteed setups, stronger throws, more and better guardbreaks that give up to +3 through +14 frame advantage, and of course directional air throw with tons of dangerzone/environmental setups while having equal speed and defensive options.

Funny, I forgot Mila so I came back 5 minutes later and added her and then it turns out I forgot Hitomi too.

Still not quite sure about Pai's placement but I brought her up and bumped Leon up as well. Might be wrong about Brad's placement but I'm comfortable with Jann where he is. Tops are still tops, bottom are sadly, still bottoms.

Also shouldn't there be a fresh new tier list topic in the "Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate" section of the forums? Just realized this is still the vanilla thread in the vanilla section.

They say the same about Eliot and Hayate too, I think. But they believe Ayane is mid to mid-low tier. Which is odd (and untrue) as far as Ayane is concerned. I don't "have" to explain why that is, but can and will if people want to know why. But I will say that I am still finding ridiculous things with her that I'm sure have not been used in certain ways or have been explored.

That can be said about Kokoro, Eliot and Hayate too (as I'm sure it could be said for every character). I think some players probably haven't realized or maybe found something that makes their character play differently.

wut? Ein worse than Kokoro? That's a laugh...
Let's see...

Kokoro Pros

+ String and mix-up variety
+ Sabakis
+ Strings into built-in throws
+ Overall safety
+ Decent gap closing ability
+ Good Speed (i10 High, i12 Mid, i13 Low)

Kokoro Cons

- Slowed down strings
- Virtually no tracking
- No moves with real advantage on block.

Ein Pros

+ Great zoning and whiff punishing abilities
+ Easy excecution outside of WR K
+ Easy throw damage.
+ A number of frame advantage on NH/Block moves.
Moderate speed (i10 High, i13 Mid, i13 low)

Ein Cons

- Mediocre/bad close range mixup
- Easily crushed
- Easily sidestepped
- Cannot safely apply pressure
- Mostly unsafe
- Insufficient speed or advantage to take advantage of frame advantage moves.

Maybe I'm over glorifying Kokoro just a bit, but she's most definitely better than Ein.

I didn't say Ein was Ein tier because he sucked. It's because his position is solely dependent on the player and the opponent they face. Ein will have a field day with any player who is impatient and makes a lot of mistakes for him to capitalize on. The Ein player himself must be patient though since Ein doesn't have an offense worth anything. If that is attempted on solid to top level players it doesn't matter how good you are you are putting yourself in a grave since other characters can do it better.

In close quarters all Ein has is 2P. His 2P is ridiculously good but the thing is people seem to like sitting there and respecting his 2P pressure when they could sidestep and not eat it all day long. He has no good tracking options to follow up 2P with. 4P is a high and loses to all strike retaliation from an opponent unless they have a 13i mid in which case they can't use that but they can use thier jab or 2P. The same goes for his offensive hold because it comes out at 16 frames; nowhere near fast enough to catch jabs or mids.

If Ein fails to open somebody up with 2P he has to resort to his lows and throws. This wouldn't be a problem if he actually had a reliable or delayable mid past PP. PPP is unsafe, knocks back, is linear and the charge is seeable. This limits his string based pressure to P cancels (limited because he has no mid to back them up if people try to 2P out of his cancels.) PP6P which is high, and PP2K which is low. 6KK has a very small delay interval and is unsafe for reasons I don't understand. It doesn't bound and it doesnt cause huge damage midscreen. It contains no other mixups. It is not a 2 in 1. Why is this move unsafe? Anyway if Ein does not get a stun off of a 3P or 6K he is not causing much damage in close quarters.

The plus side to Ein is that he doesn't need the stun game. He just needs to get a stun and he can launch into a juggle that puts himself into a good position and deals 26%+ damage at minimum without enviornment. 46P and 236P with your back to the wall is great damage. The issue he has is his difficulty getting those hits.

Ein is all fundamental skills and cannot afford to make mistakes. If his opponent doesn't make any mistakes against him he will struggle. If they allow Ein to dictate the pace of the match they will lose sooner or later whether it be by timeout or KO.

On Kokoros end she has it hard because she is only winning anything if she makes the right guesses. She is dependent on the stun game and doesnt really have the tools to take full advantage of it. They also made it a little harder for her to get stuns. I feel Ein has it slightly better than Kokoro since even though he has trouble landing hits he can take full advantage of them when he gets them and doesnt need to play the stun game like she does.

To follow up on this, the strange part is that everyone will say that Ein is a defensive character but he has these great wall banging tools that he can't take advantage of because if you WANT the wall, you have to work to get your opponent there, and what does that require? It requires you to offensively pressure your opponent or trick them into letting you get to their back. (This isn't DOA3.1 Hayate sidestep so unless they do something amazingly ridiculous like a dragon kick from mid-close range, you're not getting to their back, and half of the time that doesn't work because the person who ISN'T doing the dragon kick loses all sense of where the opponent is which means, chances are you might get a BT P or BT 4P which will PROBABLY whiff, like BT moves always do in those situations )

Just one of the many reasons why this guy is lacking as a character. He and Kokoro need help.

I won't get into fixes for this, but the Ein players already know what would reverse this problem so that while not having the best offense in the game, he'd be able to feel confident about hitting someone.

I feel people overestimate Kokoro 44P. It has its uses but it's really not that good.

:6::6::P:, 14 frames, reach 2,13 m, and moves 1,60 m towards the target (-4 on block => safe)
24 damage, and deep stun on normal hit.

I'd say that is pretty good stats. It's like a safe stairway to heaven.

That's 66P Crext. Good job.

Unless 66P opens up for a launcher of two heights (mid p and high/mid p and mid k/mid k and high) it's not amazing. Just good. 44P is the new sabaki if I'm not mistaken.
