Characters Marie Rose, Phase 4 and 1.05

After all of the intense matches from SCR this weekend, it's only fitting that we are followed up with huge news pertaining to our game and community. Marie Rose is coming to consoles 3/25 on Playstation 3 and the 26th on Xbox 360. A 1.05 update is also planned, but little details are available for that.

Update 3/04: Marie Rose will be paid DLC. Her retail price is 5.99 USD. It should also be mentioned that the title update will be coupled with Lorelei.

Kasumi Alpha "Phase 4" is also planned to be released and she is only currently planned for arcades.

I can understand the majority of your statement, but this... just wait and see. She's going to be different.
I hope new Kasumi will be different. To be honest, Kasumi really is just not that interesting of a character to me (she is like the Meg Griffin of DOA lol), and now we will have three of them. Then again, I am new to the series. This is starting the trend that Tekken is going towards (10 mishimas, 2 lee chaolans, 2 lilis, 2 xiaoyus, 2 bobs, 2 michelle changs etc.). Just seems like a lazy way to add more characters.

Hopefully that Kasumi Alpha will be coming to consoles too. I hope she has a unique moveset since it's Phase Four. I swear if she has a moveset like Alpha 152 i'm going to scream

Man, I want everything for this game simply for the sake of completion if nothing else.

But being perfectly honest, I do not give the slightest fuck in the world about this new Kasumi clone. If she never winds up making it to consoles, I wouldn't shed a tear.

Obviously that would have negative ramifications for the Tengu campaign etc, but referring simply to Phase 4... yeah. It'll probably just be one more uninspired moveset I have to learn to fight against.

I'm pretty sure, based on photos and checking it myself in training, that she will either be able to be any fightingstyle for an entire match, or perhaps switch every round.

I say this because as Master pointed out, one photo is definitely the end to Ryu's WR H+K, and while I thought another was Pai's 6P+K, it turns out it's Helena's 6P+K, which you can tell due to the bent legs.

So, since she has displayed moves from two completely different characters, I'm going to assume I was right in my guess and say she's the Edge Master of DOA

I have one really stupid question. If Marie Rose had been free and the Lorelei stage had been $5.99, would you guys have complained as much?

The reason I'm taking this in stride is simple. Most companies have gone to paid DLC and not just Capcom. I hate to pick on Tekken for anything other than that the characters look like they'd fail a drug test, but TR has an expansive list of paid DLC. It looks like all the other companies are completely doing it, so it stands to reason that TK would also.

I haven't complained about Marie Rose having a price... I don't think it's overpriced. Even though I'm not on the hype train, I still kinda want her... I mean its cute and all. Seems fun. Why not.

However, I think it'd be a lot more worrisome if the Lorelei stage was the one with a price tag on it. Specially considering it's a recycled stage. It's not new, it's been done before.
It'd also be extremely unfair if it was not available to everyone. More so than a character, which you might not learn to play but you can still learn the match-up by playing against it. Also, how would that work out on stage-select? Maybe some other fighting game has stages on DLC and figured it, I wouldn't know, but it seems like it would make no sense if you bought a stage only to not play it half the time because the other person doesn't have it.

Anyway.... "fairness" aside, I still believe that when they make something such as a character from scratch, they earned their buck. It takes time and resources. And I doubt anyone would have not charged for her, be it their work.

And like I said previously, I never saw a promise in TNs words. I saw words of what they feel and what they planned to do. And most of the time it's not even up to the developers when this kind of decision pops.

At least you handled that well. The point I was making is this: Honestly, I'm not shedding too many tears over this because TN has put out a good game. Companies like Capcom, WB and Namco are charging an arm, a leg and two kidneys for their DLC (who, I might add own the four biggest fighting games in the world right now), so I figure it's the way to go.

After seeing how TN contradit themselves with an important decision for competitite community. I feel desapointed because I have been supporting the game in many ways but TN don't help us that way (and others). Selling DLC chars in Core Figthers is more than ok but spending money each time TN decide to release DLC chars is a barrier for competitive community.

Moreover, I don't think TN really improvise chars development, so they have been priced 5U higher at begining. Because I compete in DOA5U, not in a price variable title.

In adition, TN credibility drops down, which also doesn't help the game reputation. I don't mind the money, I mind negative impact in game reputation in competitive fighting games community, which has been hard to rise and still needs help.

Well the discription of her says she fights with a modified version o mugen Tenshin (like alpha-12 does) but she's probably got her own modifications of the style but yea idk about ryu or Pai but I definitely saw Helena's 6P+K so it's their word vs our observation.

My only disappointment to this character is that her whole design is simply a cover up. It's "still"a Kasumi under the hood with clown pants to go with it.

I don't think it's possible to inherit VF moveset since they are originally Sega's and would be a bad act against them. Unlike SPARTAN which TN created the moveset with some iconic animation to it such as the sticky grenade. I like the idea though, In fact it should be every round because if it's just matches it would kill the purpose of having a random character select option to begin with. One round your Zack, the other round Helena....that's not bad, somewhat like an Edgemaster or Mokujin from the Tekken Series.

My assumption is she's the Raidou/Dural of DOA5U, in that she takes a bunch of different moves from others and puts her own twists on them, making a moveset entirely out of remixed attacks from other characters.

Seriously. Your strongest criticism of Phase-4 is that she has CLOWN pants? FFS, she's going to have other costumes.

It's only these kinds nitpick criticisms that people can make on a character that we haven't seen in action yet.

Why do people keep saying this? Their original statement was that they would have no DLC characters at all. Then Ultimate came around and pushed that boundary, then Marie Rose's existence came along and broke it. By the time Marie Rose was announced, that statement was nullified. Therefore, it should have been assumed logically that if they're charging so much for outfits, they will definitely charge for a characters with outfits.

PS: They technically kept their word. DOA5 didn't have any DLC characters, paid or otherwise. They made no statement about DLC characters in 5U.

I share the same point of view and have tried to argue elswhere only for it to fall on deaf ears. I think another point that people are missing is that the statement was made almost two years ago. Even if you were to ignore the fact that the statement was made in relation to DoA5 not 5U, it's unreasonable to think that such an opinion should be permanent.
