DOA6 Graphics Thread

I’m gonna say something crazy. Where can I buy a Barbie doll of Kasumi and Leifang. I want TeamNinja to make them so I can comb their hair. Kasumi looks so pretty.

Kasumi does indeed look like a plastic doll here. The overly shiny shaders and the downgraded hair detail and textures from DOA5 look like plastic. :/

We need DOA toys. I want a Kokoro with spring-loaded elbows and Jann Lee that vibrates on command.
Oh that would be nice especially if it comes with an umbrella for Kokoro.

I see what you mean. I learned to accept DOA isn’t meant to be realistic. At it core it’s anime with a final fantasy touch. Sure TeamNinja could of did better. However I still like the way Kasumi looks. I want a doll of her so bad.

I loved the anime style DOAs, DOA3 and DOA2U still look absolutely beautiful, that's not the problem here.
Since when when does plastic mean/equal anime? DOA6 is DOA5 with a plastic shine layer on top of everything. It looks artificial and just off. The overly bright, yellow-ish lighting makes everything look even worse.

DOA5 looks aesthetically so much more pleasing:

Seriously, what's up with that ugly piss filter over everything in DOA6? D: Even the sky isn't actually blue, but so dull.

I’m not denying it looks off. I just like the way she looks that’s all.

I think this one comes down to taste because I think DOA6 looks categorically better than 5, even in its unfinished state. DOA5 is a fine looking game, but compared to 6, it looks muted and drab. Also everyone’s face in 5 looks like they’re caking on makeup to hide a wasting disease.

I do agree ! DOA5 was way more realistic than DOA6. Yeah it was dark, but at least graphics were better. The only think DOA6 improved is the costumes textures + lips texture + hands and male bodies. But for everything else, I'm disappointed (except for Christie/ Eliot which are totally awesome !).

If i have to pick a top5 of the characters which were better in DOA5 :
- Kasumi
- Nyotengu
- Hayate
- Honoka
- Hitomi (mainly during her presentation. When she performs her start pose, she looks amazing !).

This isn't particularly well made (the DOA6 footage is of hilariously bad quality), but I thought it would fit well to the discussion:


All in all DOA6 is imo in some aspects a step forward, technically and artistically, and in some a step back.
Ryu is a big and clear improvement...Bayman in his orange vest is however a big and clear decline. His character model was much more detailed and interesting before. His chest, arms and shoulders even had modelled musculature, now there's only textures and shaders in place.

The preview image of the video also schows that they really messed up Nyotengu's facial expressions. From smoldering and sassy to deer in the headlights.

Yep, can sadly agree with that they definitely made some improvements in some regard and most definitely step backs as well.

Also I agree with that Nyotengu point you made :|

It’s interesting because Shimbori mentioned how much tuning they’ve had to do since the engine/lighting is new, but the models were pulled from Last Round.

disregarding costumes, the part of the models that clearly come from DOA5 is the hair. the body and face are new models with more polygons..but the hair just has extra work done on the texture to give it more pop.

The hair part is actually the other way around. The hair models are new/improved, with more polygons and links for longer hair strands (I posted direct comparisons in this thread before), and the textures are the reused ones from DOA5. Those textures actually decreased in quality for whatever reason when they reapplied them to the new hair models. They are more pixelated, they are partly warped and there are graphical errors like unsightly pixel patterns:
